Pioli insists Milan must ‘start strong and maintain a certain consistency’

Stefano Pioli likened his AC Milan team to a hybrid car in the way that they are aiming to start strong and remain consistent for the season.

Milan pretty much have no choice but to start fast as they will begin the campaign with a tricky trip to face Thiago Motta’s Bologna, while their first opponents at home will be Ivan Juric’s Torino who won two of the three meetings last season.

Two difficult away games then follow as Roma and Inter are in rounds 4 and 5, while matches against Lazio (home), Juventus (home) and Napoli (away) also fall inside the first 10 games so it is crucial to be close to 100% right away.

Pioli took to the stage tonight at the event Milan put on together with BMW Italia to celebrate the renewal of their partnership, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

How did the players seem?

“I saw them looking good, it’s normal to be like this after 30 days of holidays. Definitely motivated, we’re not yet the complete group so let’s wait for next week [when the full squad are back] and then do excellent preparation. An important season awaits us.”

The squad will leave for the USA in nine days…

“They will be very high-profile friendlies, they will help us find the best conditions. They have to be faced in the best possible way.”

How fast should Milan go?

“Like our partner BMW we are very environmentally conscious, so right now we are recharging our batteries to get going as fast as possible but also to last. We try to be a hybrid car, which starts strong and maintains a certain consistency. We’re preparing well to be competitive and we’ll try to do the best we can.”
