Pioli names Leao’s best role as he responds to rumours of potential position change

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli has insisted that Rafael Leao’s best position is on the left wing despite speculation he could play elsewhere.

It was La Gazzetta dello Sport who reported how Ante Rebic and Leao are in a battle for the left wing spot, but that Pioli has not ruled out that in some situations we could see a ‘super attack’, as the paper calls it, with the Rebic-Calhanoglu-Leao trio behind Ibrahimovic.

We have also already seen the Portuguese starlet occupy a position behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the playmaker in the last couple of games, in which Hakan Calhanoglu and Brahim Diaz have both been out with Coronavirus and an injury respectively.

Pioli spoke to the reporters who gathered in the conference room at Milanello to discuss tomorrow’s game and he was asked about Leao’s wild card ability, with his response transcribed by MilanNews.

“He has done well in every position. His growth is evident and he must continue like this. For me, his role is wide on the left, but he can also play in the other roles of the attack,” he said.
