AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is trying to carve out a new tactical role for Portuguese forward Rafael Leao which may not be instantly successful, a report claims.
As has been reported by Milan News, Leao was used in a different way to normal against Torino on Friday night but Milan got just their second win of 2023.
For that reason, Pioli is expected to stick with the 3-4-2-1 formation that saw Leao play behind Olivier Giroud but in line with Brahim Diaz. This meant his role was not only to get forward and attack, but also bring Theo Hernandez into play as much as possible on the overlap.
Leao himself did not have much of an impact against Torino but Pioli is not expected to give up on the new system, feeling that the best can be got from Leao as well as other players in the team who have underperformed recently.
So with this new formation, the best line-up would be this:

Thiaw is much taller than Tomori. It would be better to put Thiaw in the center. Others agreed.

they need to swtich it up. the other teams figured us out and our players couldn’t sustain the amount of legwork required after the transfer windows we had, thin squad and multiple competitions this year. Leo is drawing more attention from opponents so they need to open up spots for other players to capitalize on the pressure he receives. That right wing really had to be reinforced to keep him dangerous. Now they can focus on our left side without worrying about the threat from our right flank.
Ball picker is a more suitable role in 2024. This guy is leaving for another team on a free transfer.
