Pioli reflects on the life of Davide Astori and believes Scudetto race is ‘too early’ to call – video

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli reflected on the life of Davide Astori and made an assessment on the current Serie A campaign at an event this evening.

MilanNews writes how Pioli received the award dedicated to Astori from Ussi Sardegna at the Vigne Surrau in Arzachena. The Rossoneri manager was and still is very attached to the late Italian defender, who tragically passed away at just 31 years of age while Pioli was Fiorentina manager.

“I am honoured and proud of this recognition, meeting Davide was a fortune. A special person in his simplicity, together we made a journey short but that will bind us for life. He is still alive in our memories and will always be like this,” Pioli said.

“I have always had a true relationship with Davide, often when we needed it we supported each other. I hardly found a guy so available and always ready to put himself at the service of team-mates. He transmitted the pleasure of being with his team-mates and being a guide and leader he always knew the right things at the right time.

“Every time I receive a sudden call I relive that trauma, which I believe no one has ever overcome. But we must continue with the good memories because Davide is with us and his teachings and his inner serenity can always help us.”

He ended with a few words on the current season: “The favourites for Serie A? It is still too early to say, but I see a balanced season. Many will fight for the Scudetto because there are several strong teams but also for the fight not to be relegated. many teams on the same level.”
