Pioli responds to idea of having regrets over the season and worries about energy levels

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has spoken about the idea of trying to conserve energy ahead of the season finale, which he believes will see the top four race go right down to the wire.

Pioli spoke to the reporters who gathered in the media room at Milanello for his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to the capital, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

He was asked if he has any regrets about the way that the season has played out, given that Milan were in a Scudetto battle before the reverse fixture against Roma and the collapse in that from 2-0 up to 2-2 in the last few minutes triggered a collapse and a winless run.

“There are moments in a season when things don’t go well, but it all helped us to be here today to play for significant goals. We’re only thinking about tomorrow and bringing home points,” he said.

The Rossoneri have been left balancing commitments, with a Champions League semi-final to prepare for next month but huge games against Roma, Lazio and Juventus to come and a top four spot guaranteed.

That means the protagonists will have to be as fresh as possible, and Pioli was questioned on his plans to try and potentially conserve energy.

“Matches are very expensive, especially mentally. But we are now used to playing so much and at such high levels. I have professionals who know how to recover energy, so I hope we will have this treatment.”

Finally, he was asked for his gut feelings on the last few games of the season.

“They’re good because the team is doing well and is working well. The recent performances have been good. We know what to do in the important matches, so we’re going to Rome with confidence, we have the qualities to do well.”
