Pioli reacts to renewal of ‘ambitious’ Bennacer and gives thoughts on Colombo’s growth

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has admitted he is happy with how Lorenzo Colombo is developing at Lecce, and also reacted to the news of Ismael Bennacer’s renewal.

Milan made the decision to send Colombo out on loan for the 2022-23 season to Lecce, where he has racked up four goals and two assists thus far. He is expected to lead the line for the Giallorossi tomorrow against the Rossoneri at the Stadio Via del Mare.

Pioli spoke to the reporters who gathered in the press room at Milanello ahead of tomorrow’s trip to face Lecce and he was asked for his thoughts on Colombo and Bennacer, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How are you seeing Colombo’s growth at Lecce?

“He’s doing very well, he’s showing great improvements and Milan are watching him with great attention.”

Last night, it was announced that Milan have secured the renewal of Ismael Bennacer until June 2027, thus getting a key member of the project to extend his deal by three years following the likes of Theo Hernandez, Sandro Tonali, Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori.

Are you happy with Bennacer’s renewal?

“He deserves the renewal. He is very ambitious and humble because he knows he can improve further. The work the club is doing is important, I’m happy with all the renewals. I hope that more positive news will arrive soon.”
