Pioli gives blunt response to idea of changing formation ahead of Lazio game

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli appears to have ruled out any notion of a formation change ahead of tomorrow’s game against Lazio.

Milan have not had a great last few weeks as they followed up friendly defeats against Arsenal, Liverpool and Arsenal in December with winning just one of their first five games in 2023, that victory coming against Salernitana on January 4 meaning the Rossoneri are four without a win.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reported that Pioli is evaluating the possibility of changing formation and moving from 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3 to add some extra protection in front of the back four, given that the team have conceding nine goals in their last five games.

Pioli spoke to reporters at his pre-match press conference today and was asked about the possibility of changing system to add a a bit more balance perhaps by adding an extra midfielder.

“There is no possibility of inserting an extra midfielder. With our system we have often developed different situations and we will also do it against Lazio,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).
