Pioli reveals Milan did some reflecting after Porto defeat: “We understood our mistakes”

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli has revealed that he and his Milan squad did a bit of analysing and reflecting after the disappointing 1-0 defeat against Porto on Tuesday night.

Pioli spoke to the reporters who gathered inside the press room in his pre-match press conference at Milanello on the eve of Milan’s trip to face Bologna at the Stadio Renato dall’Ara and he was asked on a couple of occasions about the defeat in Portugal.

“We evaluated the performances, the few positive and the negative ones. Then we returned to the field to prepare for tomorrow’s match, it will be a difficult match. Now let’s think about the next three league games, then we’ll think about the Champions League,” he said (via MilanNews).

“We are aware that we had a bad game. We lost too many balls and were not very compact in defense. We understood our mistakes, we must try not to repeat them tomorrow against an opponent who will put us in difficulty.”

An injury-hit Milan side never really got going in truth as the home side were better in every department and took advantage of Atletico Madrid’s home defeat to Liverpool, closing the gap between themselves and the Spaniards to one point thanks to Luis Diaz’s winner in the 65th minute.

The result means that the Rossoneri have played three and lost three in their return to the Champions League after a seven-year absence and are four points off second place with three games to play.
