GdS: Pioli to revert to key men against Napoli after depth disappoints vs. Empoli

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will be back on the field on Wednesday night against Napoli in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash, and Brahim Diaz should be back in the starting XI.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) report this morning, Milan’s alternatives disappointed once again on Friday evening at home against Empoli in a match that had to be won. That means Stefano Pioli shouldn’t have problems picking the team for next week, especially after the 4-0 win at the Maradona last Sunday.

The last summer transfer window has not brought the desired results so far with players like Charles De Ketelaere and Divock Origi failing to deliver what they were brought in for, so Pioli will rely on the stars of the Scudetto win.

Exactly like in the match a week ago and like in the match a year ago against Napoli, Pioli will rely on a double triangle, in attack and in midfield. The surprise last week was seeing Ismael Bennacer more advanced to stop Lobotka, with Sandro Tonali and Rade Krunic deeper

Another top performance is needed from the Rossoneri midfielders, while Rafael Leao will be on the left, Olivier Giroud the centre-forward and Brahim Diaz on the right. However, some variation will be needed or they may be easier to stop this time.
