Pioli says Milan want to ‘play their game’ against Verona; explains line-up choices

AC Milan will face Verona tonight at the San Siro, with the Rossoneri looking to build on their positive moment from before the international break.

The official line-up for the match was announced not long ago, with Daniel Maldini taking the place of Brahim Diaz, Ballo-Toure replacing Theo Hernandez and Olivier Giroud starting as the lone striker upfront.

Coach Stefano Pioli spoke to Sky Sport (via milannews.it) ahead of the match, commenting on the match against Igor Tudor’s side and explaining his choices for the starting line-up.

“It will be a difficult match. Verona is a fine team mentally and physically, but we are fine too. We want to play our game,” he said.

“I’m only thinking about tonight’s game, this is the best line-up I could field. We know Giroud well, we know how important he can be for us. We have to play with energy and intensity,” Pioli added.

Milan will be looking to win their sixth game of the season tonight at the San Siro, with Pioli’s squad only losing points away against Juventus in a 1-1 draw.

A win against Verona could move the Rossoneri temporarily in first place, with Napoli to play Torino tomorrow. Moreover, after Inter lost 1-3 against Lazio earlier today, the team could increase the gap from the Nerazzurri to five points.

  1. Without Maignan, Diaz, Theo, Tonali, Kjaer and Ibra Milan look like a Serie B team. Shows Milan is still not in a position to win scudetto. With the injuries, it shows Milan are not a fit team and they cannot play without their top 5/6 players.

      1. Happy to see a turnaround in the 2nd half orchestrated by our subs especially Castillejo. But my point was to highlight the poor medical condition of the team. Maignan was handled poorly. He had the injury since Liverpool game. If the injuries are not taken care of , don’t you think there is a risk ?
