Pioli responds to questions on season finale and 14-point gap to Inter

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has conceded that it was probably a bad month that ruled his side out of the title race, but gave credit to the runaway leaders Inter.

Milan have found themselves in a position where the Scudetto has been out of reach for the majority of the season, with a particularly difficult October and November being the main reason.

Inter have been travelling at a remarkable pace in terms of goals, but the Rossoneri going four games without a win in the league from 22 October to 11 November is what saw them pull away.

Pioli spoke at his pre-match press conference on the eve of the game against Fiorentina today, and he was asked about whether being 14 points off Inter feels accurate.

“We cannot change the table. Inter did something extraordinary, while we, especially in a month, were unable to obtain a few more victories. In recent months we have gotten closer both in terms of play and results,” he said.

The Milan boss was also asked about what he is expected from the season finale, given that there are nine games left plus hopefully a few more in the Europa League.

“There are still many important matches. Now the most important is tomorrow’s match in Florence where we have always found difficulties. You have talked a little too much about the future. We only have to think about the present and these last two months of the season.

“Then at the end of the season it will tell you what kind of a season it was and what I want for next year. Let’s just think about Fiorentina and then the following matches.”
