Pioli shares update on injured trio and says Musacchio is ‘getting close’ to a return

On the eve of the clash between Sampdoria and Milan at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Stefano Pioli spoke to the media at the usual press conference. In addition to the game, he was also asked about the injuries he’s dealing with.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Rafael Leao have missed a few games now and their presence wasn’t expected for this clash. Simon Kjaer, on the other hand, suffered an injury mid-week and will thus also miss out, which is a blow for Milan.

When asked about the trio, as cited by MilanNews, the manager didn’t give many indications as to when they might be back. He did, however, confirm that Kjaer will have new tests next week to determine the extent of his injury.

“Certainly Ibra, Leao and Kjaer won’t be available tomorrow. Kjaer must be re-evaluated in a week, we will then have clear ideas. He’s calm and sorry, he’s a rock, he always wants to be present,” he stated.

Pioli was also asked about Mateo Musacchio, who has been injured since the start of June. Finally, it seems the Argentine is closing in a return and it will be interesting to see if he will make an appearance for Milan this season.

“He’s close to coming back, he has had a very long, dangerous and important injury. He’s getting close to returning to the list,” he concluded.
