Pioli shrugs off favourites tag ahead of Juventus game and calms Scudetto talk

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has shrugged aside the idea that his side are favourites both the beat Juventus and to win the Scudetto.

Pioli spoke to the reporters who gathered at the Milanello conference room to answer their questions ahead of what is a huge early-season clash for both teams at the Allianz Stadium tomorrow.

He was asked for his thoughts on Max Allegri’s statements before the game in which he stated that the game is more important for Milan and they are favourites to win in Turin. Juve have not started the season well as they have taken just one point from the first nine on offer, including defeats against Empoli and Napoli.

“I am pleased to see Max, a great coach and a very intelligent person. It was difficult to expect Juve in this situation, but I don’t think we will be favorites tomorrow. Juve have great champions and great history, I hope they are very balanced. Who will win? The team that plays the best football he will have more chances to win,” he said (via MilanNews).

Pioli was also asked whether his side should be considered among the outright favourites to win Serie A given their finish last season, the lack of continuity among rivals and their start to the current team.

“We feel we are a strong team, we always prepare to win. On Wednesday we found someone stronger than us, it will be an incentive to raise the level even more. In Serie A the competitiveness is very high, the top 7 are very close as squads on paper. The field determines, tomorrow we will have to try to be better than our opponents.”
