The president of Club Atletico Platense, Sebastian Ordonez, has lifted the lid on how the negotiation with AC Milan went for Marco Pellegrino including the terms agreed upon.
On their official website, Milan confirmed last night that they have completed the permanent signing of Pellegrino from Club Atlético Platense. The Argentinian defender has signed a contract with the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028.
Born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on 18 July 2002, Marco grew up in the Platense Youth Sector with which he made his debut in the first team on 23 March 2023, amassing 17 appearances and 1 goal.
MilanLive conducted an interview with Ordonez who led the negotiation on the part of his club by flying to Italy, and he revealed some interesting details about the negotiation.
How did the negotiations with Milan go?
“The negotiation went well, starting with the telephone or zoom conversations in which I met Antonio D’Ottavio and Geoffrey Moncada, already from there there was a rapprochement and therefore a meeting was held here in Milan in which I participated to advance the negotiation for the transfer of Marco to Milan a little.
“The trip lasted 48 hours in which, on excellent terms, everyone looking after their own interests, the negotiation was concluded on Sunday. And so, today Tuesday, after he did his medical tests, Marco was able to sign the contract.”
What are the terms and numbers of this deal?
“The operation closed at 3.5 million and 2 million in bonuses upon the occurrence of certain conditions. For Atletico Platense there is a 10% future resale clause.”
Coach Martin Palermo called him a little Walter Samuel, what do you think?
“The comparison was made by Martin Palermo, who was Samuel’s team-mate and had Marco Pellegrino in the latter period. Who better than him to say so.
“For Marco it is important to have a central defender as a reference who was an idol and a player for the national team, he also played here in Italy and it is important for him.
“Let’s hope he can do the same maybe even something more. We are proud of him and of accompanying him.”
Which player is Pellegrino and what levels do you think he can reach?
“Marco is an amazing player, a fantastic person, educated and with very high principles and values. I have no doubts about what he will be able to do at Milan and in his sporting career, the levels he can reach have no limits. I told him several times.
“I’ve known him for five years, I’ve always talked a lot with him, I told him he had to stay focused because sooner or later the opportunity would come and it’s here now. The 17 games he played with the first team were enough for him to get the interest of Milan and many other teams.
“An important result and I think that result is due to his conviction, to his mind, to his training. I really hope he can reach very high levels and that he becomes one of the figures in world football.”
Cann Pellegrino also be a full-back?
“Yes, yes, sure. Thanks to his speed, his form, his dribbling and ball control, he fits well in that role as well. Obviously his natural position is left centre-back but I think he can play on the wing if the coach needs it, he would do it in the best way for his intelligence, because his head and intelligence is one of its strengths.”
Welcome to Milan, kid! Hopefully you won’t end like other Latin defenders that came before you like Ayala, Duarte and Gomez.
Hopefully will be as good as if not better than Thaigo Silva
Mantappppp👍👍👍👍
Lets hope he is better and can surpass his idol walter samuel
