Player Ratings: AC Milan 0-2 Benfica – Back three struggle; Ramos baffles

AC Milan registered their first defeat of the season, showcasing really poor defending in the Europa League opener against Benfica. Below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

Benfica quickly took control of the game under the San Siro lights, definitely making the most of Milan’s sloppy defending. They could have scored more in the first half, but the lead was enough to sit back in the second and seal the deal with a 0-2 goal.

Short Version

🥇 Saelemaekers (6.5 – MOTM): For me, he was the best simply because of how much he helped create, in such a short period of time. I’m slightly worried that if Milan start him, it will look completely different, because he definitely suits coming off the bench with his quick feet (against tired defenders).

👎 Pavlovic (5): He got a yellow card early on after a tactical foul, and while that didn’t come back to haunt him, it wasn’t a great evening. He drove forward a few times but looked clumsy more than anything, with no real end product. Defensively, he was also beaten too many times.

👔 Amorim (4.5): Another first half wasted, and this time, not even the substitutions could save him. Milan really lack ideas in attack and the defending hasn’t exactly got better since the start of the season. If anything, the concentration issues are worse. Lots to work on indeed.

Starting XI

Maignan (6): You can’t fault him for any of his goals, seeing as he was completely abandoned by his defensive teammates. I thought he did well otherwise, coming out when needed and passing the ball around.

Terracciano (5): It took less than two minutes for him to misjudge a ball, nearly resulting in a 1v1 for Benfica. He wasn’t at fault for the first goal, and had a good long-distance shot saved, but it was just very obvious that he’s pretty far behind the others quality-wise.

De Winter (5): The chance missed in the second half obviously plays a big part in his rating here, because that should have been a goal, but the defending also wasn’t great. He didn’t seem in tune and also struggled to make a difference in the build-up.

Pavlovic (5): He got a yellow card early on after a tactical foul, and while that didn’t come back to haunt him, it wasn’t a great evening. He drove forward a few times but looked clumsy more than anything, with no real end product. Defensively, he was also beaten too many times.

Chukwueze (6): We got to see exactly what he can do towards the end of the first half, showing off great skill. However, I’m a bit perplexed that Milan didn’t try to reach him more often on the flank. He was a tad behind defensively, but in fairness, showed that he can track back too. And when he did get the ball in attack, he had quite a few good crosses.

Jashari (6): Nothing super special, but still a lot better from him compared to last season. He made things happen by switching the play and with some passes over the top, as well as a good shot from distance. However, he could have done better on the first goal to try to block the short, which hurts his rating here.

Musah (5.5): This is a tough one, so hear me out. Energy and a willingness to win back the ball, yes! However, there were a couple of really poor giveaways from him that could have proved more costly and he wasn’t exactly illuminating on the ball aside from that either.

Bartesaghi (5.5): We saw a good low cross for Ramos, that the striker perhaps should have done more with, but there wasn’t much else in attack from the youngster. Furthermore, he could have stopped Lukebakio before the goal, following him the entire way.

Hutchinson (6): He picked up some good positions in attack and was lively in general. There perhaps wasn’t that much in terms of end product, but he definitely took initiative and was one of the few who tried when things were at a standstill.

Cisse (5.5): I’m inclined to say he wasn’t the problem and perhaps give him a 6, but that’s too much of a cop-out. At the end of the day, I agree he could have done more. He tried to create chances, but there wasn’t much in terms of end product. The problem is that he’s often alone with the wing-back and then, well, it’s hard even if you’re creative.

Ramos (5): Five games in and I really struggle to see how Amorim wants to use him. Perhaps there is a good plan in place, but the striker isn’t doing that any favours if so. Tonight, he was awfully quiet once again, and failed to make a difference when he got a good chance (Bartesaghi’s cross).

Substitutes

Gila (5.5): He was good, a big step up actually, if you disregard the second goal for a second. That’s hard to do, though, as he was ultimately the one to blame there. He simply fell asleep and maybe it was even worthy of a 5 here.

Pulisic (6.5): Just like against Lazio, he came in with energy and above all offered a sense of danger on the ball, making things at least a bit more difficult for the Benfica defence. He had a couple of shots save, one really good on the edge of the box.

Moreira (5.5): Not even close to his Lazio cameo, failing to make things happen and losing the ball a few times. There were a few moments when there was space to run into, but the defender was either quicker than him or the touch let him down.

Saelemaekers (6.5 – MOTM): For me, he was the best simply because of how much he helped create, in such a short period of time. I’m slightly worried that if Milan start him, it will look completely different, because he definitely suits coming off the bench with his quick feet (against tired defenders).

Rabiot (6): He adds a whole other dimension to Milan’s game that was certainly lacking with Jashari in his position. While the Swiss international is more of a playmaker, the Frenchman doesn’t mind a run into the box, and he does it well.

Manager

Amorim (4.5): Another first half wasted, and this time, not even the substitutions could save him. Milan really lack ideas in attack and the defending hasn’t exactly got better since the start of the season. If anything, the concentration issues are worse. Lots to work on indeed.

    1. I think he’s done by November. The man is a fool and never should have been hired. When he was first linked, I thought it was a sick joke. And he was hired on the say so of a sporting director that didn’t even join? Amateurs.

    2. Amorim: “i will stay as long as mr cardinale want me to stay. I don’t want earlier dismissal like grosso or tedesco.”

  1. By now, you’d assume one of the coaching staff or the coach would have picked up on the poor marking pattern of the team, it was nauseating to watch, no idea on cutting out passing lanes and worse is no cutting off of obvious passing player, then try to hassle the player after receiving the ball and the opponent using a simple 2 to beat 1 to get off the press everytime.

It was almost like we didn’t do our homework but Benfica did, as they made sure to cut out any space for Chukweze and Cisse to run or operate. Even after seeing the falws, the coach had no idea what to do.

    It now a coaching problem.

  2. Useless team, useless season. Time just wasted. No idea how to improve the team, no plan for short term or long term future. You could even see the guys smiling after the first defeat in Milan’s history against Benfica. No blame to Amorim, after all he comes from a country that has produced single decent couch in football history.

  3. Told ya our coach was an arrogant, stubborn fool. Believe me yet?
Where’s IKWYDLS to to give some meaningless stats to try and convince everyone that the team is actually playing well because we beat 2 bad teams to start the season and didn’t look good in either one.
This is the worst coaching hire yet.
To think somebody actually saw what he did and how he acted at Man United and thought “we have to hire that guy”.

    1. Lol you upset Estupinian didn’t start? Or your bff RLC ?? I like how these days you’re talking about when Amorim plays his best players then we play better and win….which effectively means RLC on the bench like we didn’t all know this. The same one you go on and on about that every coaches see something in him…..yea, until they don’t. But we all knew how trash he was except for you of course. Good though that your senses are finally starting to activate!

Also, stop pretending like you didn’t watch the game. I dont need stats to tell me we dominated possession, created more chances but still played terrible. They put the ball in the net from their 2 best chances. That’s football. What exactly do you want me to tell you? Unlike you, if we play badly I’ll say so, play good and I’ll say so. You just hate the new coach regardless of how he actually does, we get it.

Btw, Giampaolo is the worst coaching hire in recent times, followed by fonz/Serge. Early days for Amorim still. I agree with why are we even hiring him after the Man Utd debacle. That also makes no sense to me and I’ve posted here on that. But he’s here now, right? so let’s actually follow through with a plan in our – ‘ once more year zero’ brought to you by you favorite owner Gerry Cardinale. Thank you Gerry, thank you Ibra.

      1. IKWYDLS can never make an argument without making up things the other person didn’t say. Never said anything about Estupinian or RLC starting. In fact I was killing this coach for putting in RLC over Pulisic. I just don’t feel the need to go around calling professional players “trash” like you.

        1. “I just don’t feel the need to go around calling professional players “trash” like you.”

OH, but you feel the need to go around calling a professional coach idiotic. You’re such a whiny little b+ch. Such a narcissist …This is you right? :

          9 September 2026, 19:17 at 7:17 pm
No, Milan has Pulisic being benched by an idiot coach.

If yes, then stfu and get the eff outta here with your nonsense

PS: Glad you came around on RLC being trash, even as you say he’s a box crasher…and finally can play exactly that at AM. We’ve been telling you that for years and we knew we were right. Congrats on getting with the program, finally!

  4. Cisse really doesn’t understand the AM position. Doesn’t know how to use space. He’s strong holding up the ball, but slows play. A 5 rating. The rest I agree with. Ramos is slow. Anyone with any speed would have gotten to the pass from Pulisic. Let’s see who starts the Lecce game.

    1. I’ve said this before and I don’t understand why Amorim believe that it’s better to start Cisse over Pulisic. The two attacking midfielders should be Pulisic and Omari behind Ramos. Even Salaemakers created more chances than Cisse.

Cisse is overrated and apart from his 2 goals his end product passes are very poor. I wouldn’t start him. He’s a sub at best.

  5. “He was a tad behind defensively, but in fairness, showed that he can track back too. ”

Did we watch the same game? He is incredibly slow and have no positioning understanding in defense. Almost cost us a goal. Did nothing other than one good dribble that they stopped with a foul.

    1. I was more so referring to the moment when he was clearly behind, resulting in a good chance for Benfica, but he tracked back and blocked the effort. But yes, he needs to do better.

    2. He had a critical interception early on in the game when Terraciano switched off and had an attacker go behind him. That was a clear thru on goal moment if it hadn’t been for his challenge on the attacker. Terra was lost, badly.

  6. Relax guys, stop complaining – as the serial killer Lord of Hate likes to say… Fielding trash and playing like trash is all part of Amorim’s master plan.. if he’d just been given more time at United they’d be enjoying his champagne football and probably won the league by now but foolishly they let him go which is their loss and oUr GaiN……..

  7. Deserved loss.
Amorim keeps setting the team up for failure with his starting lineups. He got bailed out in 2nd halves in serie A but not vs a much better European team like Benfica.
Worst Milan player on the pitch, Jashari. He does nothing. He isn’t good defensively. He does nothing to block the 1st goal. Offensively also does nothing. He got the benefit of the doubt last season because of the injury but id be willing to swap his status at the club with Bondo.
Terracciano is getting criticized even though he wasn’t at fault for neither goal, but because of 1 bad pass while the player who was brought on for him at half time was at fault for the 2nd goal and Gila gets a higher rating.
Amorim messed up the subs as well. He should have taken out Cisse who was bad, and keep Hutchinson. We all love Cisse but he shouldn’t be a guaranteed starter.
Saelemaekers and Pulisic brought something extra an they should be the starters. Amorim needs to stop with the experimenting and start the best 11.
Also, Milan should call Rui Costa and ask how much he wants for their right back. The kid was very good.
Milan needs another striker who will provide speed. Kean could have been a good signing on loan to be the backup. Outside of 1 game, Ramos has done nothing but cardio, which isn’t really his fault because he gets zero service

    1. Pulisic sent him in all alone with the keeper, and he watched the pass run for 2-3 seconds before responding and running after it, too late to do anything but watch it run out.

I know all about his history, but he was an abject failure at PSG, and I don’t see much difference so far at Milan. Has service been inadequate? Yes. Has he done anything useful or dangerous when he has received decent service? With one exception, no.

Much like Amorin, he should run back to the Portuguese Primeira Liga, and we shouldn’t see either one of them again unless we’re playing Portuguese opposition in Europe.

    2. You need to rewatch Terracciano again if you think he played one miss played pass. He gave benfica the ball 3 times in first 3 minutes after that he kept my heart dropped to the floor when he just decided to walk in to midfield like he is out picking bluebarries and he did it multiple time leaving Chuck to cover for his ass on numerous occasions. Some of the most horrible positioning I’ve seen.

      1. What about when Jashari literally passed to their attackers and tried to assist them? I’m sure that “kept your heart dropped to the floor”. I call bullsh*t. You criticise players the media does, you’re a parrot. Try being a human being with actual opinions. Gila did the same and you’re singling out someone else because?

    3. Oh my yes. Not only did Jashari do nothing ro block the shot, he literally jumped out of the way of it. It looked like of he just stayed where he was he would have been in the way or at least could have easily blocked it. Was he betting against Milan?

  8. Have you guys realized that Benfica was missing 9 starters? This was Benfica’s team B; they are otherwise only the 3rd best in a weak domestic league, and their team B came to our home and easily dominated us, easily beat us and controlled the game. That’s how bad we are.

It’s actually looking like we were lucky that we didn’t make the Champions League because we would have been humiliated there.

And have you also noticed that Amorim is already saying that he doesn’t know if he will be “given enough time to help Milan”? Most likely Cardinale is already threatening to fire him.

What’s the point in rating these players? Virtually nobody played truly well. A few were relatively decent, like Chuk, Puli and Alexis, although neither of these had the end result and the impact that we needed. The others? All of them, subpar. Not even Gila. He got burned in their second goal (together with De Winter). Bartesaghi was a disaster and was eaten alive in their first goal. Ramos is running out of excuses when he can’t be impactful after five games, even though this time he did get some service. Not even Moreira did well (initially seemed like he’d do something, but then he got rapidly dominated by his marker). When Terracciano is the only one who produced a decent attempt at scoring in the whole first half, you know that you are in deep trouble.

Amorim again botched the lineup, and this time not even the subs got it fixed.

We didn’t even have a fighting spirit, this time. We just looked what we are: a mid-table Serie A team with a toothless offense, a leaky defense, a slow midfield, a weak head coach, and a clueless owner.

We just don’t belong in Europe. We are not that good. All good feelings from the last pre-season friendly and the two first official games of the season (against two teams that are far from being that good) are gone. We are now showing our true colors.

What we showed today is that we will, again, miss the Champions League at season end, and deservedly so.

San Siro booed the team, also deservedly so.

If I had to pick a MOTM for us, although I think that no starter and no sub deserved this denomination tonight, I’d reluctantly pick Chuk. At least he tried and produced some decent crosses.

        1. I will rather keep a player that knows his job and decisive than keep the one that his quick to defend forgetting his primary function costing a fortune $75m for a spare tire. Now everyone is exposed, no Leao to draw 3-4 defenders anymore

    1. Well we really don’t know what this team could be because this absolute buffoon of a coach refuses to put our best starting XI out on the pitch.
And yes, he is already making excuses for his eventual firing. Hopefully we do it fast so we can salvage the season. After Man United sacked his @ss the barely lost another game the rest of the season and finished top 4. That should have been a red flag to everyone but not Milan.
The problem is if you sack him who is going to pick the next coach? Can’t be the same person who chose Amorim. Whoever that was. Another problem with this team is you don’t even know who is a tually making the football decisions. It’s a mess.
Pulisic for his own good should demand to be sold. Poor guy is on his 5th new coach in 4 seasons. He deserves better.

          1. You don’t need 90mins to make the difference……we have seen someone that does that most times his name is Rafael Leao

          1. Olumight isn’t a Milan-fan. He is just a Leao-fanboi who’s here to only discuss about him. The club is irrelevant to him. Leao is all that he cares about. But that’s fine. It’s not like he ever contributed to any conversations even when Leao was still here.

  9. I don’t really know how I should look at this game, I mean we were trash but I don’t really care about the Europa League. I much rather we lose this game rather than draw or lose the “easy” Lecce game on sunday. So how much we took it seriously or not is unkown to me.
That aside, this has to be one of the poorest performances I’ve seen as of late, and considering the last 2 seasons that should say something.
Maignan: not much to say, can’t be blamed for the 2 goals.
Pavlović: while I get the idea of defenders helping out the attack, what’s the point of doing so if your first touch is poor, shooting is poor and passes are poor ? Coupled with the fact that you can’t defend.
De Winter: That whole sequence in Benfica’s second goal was comical. How did he (and the other defenders) completely miss an unmarked Kamiński ? How do professionnals make a mistake like that ?
Terracciano: I felt like defensively his positioning was sus and allowed too much freedom for Benfica’s left side and left too much work to Chukwueze.
Gila: same remark concerning the second goal as De Winter.
Chukwueze: was ineffective offensively and totally outspeed defensively. I also hate how he can’t cross immeditely when running wide because he has no right foot.
Bartesaghi: managed to make Lukebakio look like prime Robben and his “efforts” after that didn’t help his case.
Moreira: didn’t do enough to deserve a passing grade.
Musah: back to his former self, aka winning the ball, storming with it then either lose it or passes it poorly. Also didn’t do enough to suppress Benfica’s midfield control.
Jashari: forgot he was here at times. Outside of a nice pass to Cissé, he didn’t do anything remotely close to playmaking and didn’t help in defending.
Rabiot: IMO he came a tad too late to do anything.
Cissé: was poor tonight and should have been subbed sooner IMO.
Hutchison: I don’t dislike his dribbling abilities but it’s too soon to see if he can be lethal with us or if he’s just a show pony with no substance. Tonight at least, it was the latter.
Pulišić: he brought some action to an otherwise dead attack, but again nothing came out of it.
    Saelemakers: same as above.
Ramos: Can’t comment on a player I didn’t see play, it would be unfair.
Overall tactically, what’s the point of playing with 3 at the back if the defense is so bad ? What’s the point of subbing Terracciano for Gila to concede a goal just as comical. Why our buildup is still so slow and stall ?

    1. Facts facts and more facts. Completely agree. But like you said it’s Europa League, a massive distraction for what our real aim is and that’s top 4 in the league to get back to the our real meaningful competition ie the UCl

  10. Thank god we got rid of Maldini, Massara, Leao, Theo, Tonali, Kessie, etc.
    /S

It doesn’t matter who we sign as long as the incompetents up top are in charge we will be a banter team; constantly signing and overpaying mediocre players, getting rid of any modicum of talent from the roster/youth sector, getting clown coach after clown coach, they have no idea how to build a functioning team.

    And as usual #Redturd Out

    1. Right, because when we had them we weren’t losing these same games. No, we were like Real Madrid under Zidane.
Unemployed, ruining Juventus, in Turkey, in the desert, playing for one of the worst teams in the EPL, playing for Atalanta after playing in the desert. Yeah we miss some quality players and directors

      1. We were Champions and at the lowest under them higher than what we are now, but please keep defending Redturd as we fall further and further into obscurity.

      2. Easy now. If M&M had this money that we spent this summer, we would been in CL and maybe real contenders for Seria A champions. Those two knew how to build a team. Knew what to look at in the coach and what players were needed. They build a team that won Seria A and went into CL semifinals. And they build it with peanuts. All these people that came after, didn’t know how to do any of it.

      3. LMAO 🤣🤣🤣 oh no, not the terrible players and director who went to a UCL semi and won the league. Surely those were worse times. Thank goodness were in Europa with these better players /S

  11. Congrats to all the Allegri haters, RedBird’s online lawyers and the Amorim believers. You bunch deserve this spectacle more than anyone.

  12. Very difficult to play football like this. I don’t understand what is the point of keeping the 3 defenders so close to each other and fully blocked when we have the ball. I don’t understand how can you be dangerous without depth, without trying to attack the space.
I don’t think it was a terrible match, Benfica scored 2 goals out of0.5 xg. But we are just too slow and predictable with the ball.

    1. You can say that again, 4-2-3-1 formation will unlock this team. Amorim is stifling the players, these Milan players are not bad. Amorim is making the team predictable and making the game difficult for the players.

Amorim is making the players work too hard and when they get the ball, they barely do anything with it. Keep it simple, allow the players express themselves and play to their strength, stop forcing players to fit your mould. ADAPT!!!

People laughed when Hansi Flick bought Adeyemi and Gordon, but look what they have produced. A good system makes even an average player excellent.

Someone should tell Amorim, we want progress, visible results not excuses nor explanations!

  13. Just play your best 11! It’s not that hard. They need to get together but they can’t do that if they don’t start games together.

    1. And who are our best 11? We are a disjointed collection of mediocre players. Some of them were good at a time, but no longer.

      1. He meant Pulisic 7months still counting without a goal or any meaningful output, now the die is cast the one that makes the difference is gone, the one that makes opposing team to shiver is gone, the one that allows others to shine by attracting 3 defenders allowing others to excel is gone for just $38m even when he is willing to stay, what are we left with? Mediocres

      2. He meant Pulisic 7months still counting without a goal or any meaningful output, now the di** is cast the one that makes the difference is gone, the one that makes opposing team to shiver is gone, the one that allows others to shine by attracting 3 defenders allowing others to excel is gone for just $38m even when he is willing to stay, what are we left with? Mediocres

        1. You are still taking about Leão? Bro, he’s gone it’s okay. I know you are heartbroken but you can always chase him down in Istanbul. Has he scored yet in the Turkish league?

          1. I am talking about mistake made by some racial fans here and those at San siro mostly, management and owner, letting Leao go without concrete plan to excel will set us back and here we are already

      3. I’d say the 11 from the 2nd half against Lazio. I agree it’s no super team or anything but it’s the best Milan has got. They just need to start together and build chemistry. I guess maybe put Cisse up top and bench Ramos(until he proves himself) and put Alexis in.

  14. This was really really baffling. First off Ramos is completed worn out. He is not used to playing this much, yet Amorim won’t substitute him, 90 minutes every game with an high press…and you are seeing the results of that. His touch is cement. The guy is gassed. However rest days seemed to be important for ll the players who do not need rest. Amorim picks this day to rest Pulisic, who needed no rest, Moreira who needed no rest. And even the die hard Italian guys who want a return to an all Italian team do not want to see Terraciano. Yet here we are. This loss is not the worst result. It can be easily overcome. But it is such a self inflicted wound. Shape up Amorim! Your starting XI was so obvious, it was the second half team that played at Lazio….yet you bungled it. Every game but Torino our starting XI has been mismanaged.

Also I have been saying this for 4 years. Is there anyone in our midfield who can be a distributor and get us 7-10 assists each season? If not, we should bypass the midfield altogether in the build up, because they cannot create.

    1. We’ve been missing a creative midfielder ever since Pirlo left. Not a single good playmaker have been seen here for over a decade. Sad and pathetic.

  15. Boring game. Couldn’t create anything upfront. We burning another striker, (not worth 70mil btw), by not serving him. We were decent with Giroud that was strong physically, the rest with struggle since we’ve been failing to create anything for the last few seasons. Amorim keeps failing at preparing the game right. And with that constant starting 11 change, makes 0 sense. Im all for integrating everyone but not like this. Start strongest 11 get a few goals in and then throw the ones that are fighting for a starting spot. It’s too early to bash him I feel. But if I had to bet, he’ll be gone by late October.

      1. Not enough. He has run a lot in these 3 games with 0 shots on goal or 0 half a chance. That kills the strikers goal instinct. I am not defending him like he is a superstar but it’s the truth. He definitely not worth what we paid, maybe half of it. Without good service no one can score much, maybe except haland that bulldozes through the defense.

        1. He had at least two. One was a cross that went thru his legs and a pass breaking the line but he was as slow as my grandmother and the keeper ran faster to the ball then he did.

  16. I am sad because of the fact that offensively we were not creative, defensively we were unstable (out of place). Is this maybe an indication of the manager’s shortcomings?

  17. I guess Leao is the problem, all this 3421 is trash, this team is suited for 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 since Leao wanted to stay, they should have allowed him to stay, Amorim is not the right choice, he couldn’t even evaluate his players right, if he can pick RLC, Musa and Estupinan over some others it shows he is average. Now to Cardinals “money miss road”……paying $75m for a far lesser player, a bench player for a reason 5matches 1goal against who?
Banter era here we are, the earlier we fire Amorim the better

      1. Won against who? We couldn’t even beat a Benfica B team, the matches we won did we play well? We are still conceding goals like basket leaking water

      1. He was here, played out of position, injured throughout the season and yet, he is the highest goal scorer, better than natural striker and every attacker we had, that means half fit Leao is better than all attacker in Milan possession combined

  18. Amorim did the same with his lineups at United. FIDDLE away while Milan burns! I don’t think Cisse can play with the big boys! He needs more experience but the coach is always right………..

  19. And people were laughing when i said keep Leao,Fofana… We went from Leao/Nkunku on the left to Cisse/Sale, thats a couple of levels downgrade, self sabotage by stupid management.

    1. You are spot on…….complete downgrade, Leao actually wanted to stay, Leao could have made the average Ramos look like a superstar by now. Of what use is the pressing when the whole team looks disjointed. This management is trash, to sell Leao for $38m is a complete disaster and to that section of San siro, who are you going to boo now?

        1. Gosh, he just joined the Turkish league! Is that really the standard? He should have scored 20 goals and 20 assists already in a new team and league he joined days ago??? LOL. You guys are terrible in your hatred of Leão!

I agree that his time at Milan was over and the last seasons were unproductive and he had to leave, but I’m thankful for what he did for us when he was at peak; I wish him well and don’t hate him, unlike some, here!

  20. I’m gonna say it again. This Milan team is unwatchable. He makes Allegris team last year look good. No way Allegri loses tonight to Benfica, even if it was boring match. (PS not allegri fan)

  21. Nonsense, if Amorim insist on playing the B team nothing would change if they where here. They would sit on the bench and watch the likes of Omari and Cisse play. Problem here is Amorim’s stubbornness, today it went wrong either way but against juve and lazio the game completely changed when he put on our first team players, players who should start from the get go. If he don’t learn now after 3rd time doing the same stupidity its time to consider his sanity.

    1. In truth, the game came at a bad moment. He had to play 3 big games from back to back, while also juggling with the squad to make players get as many minutes as possible, until international break. People are already hounding at Amorim when in truth, we should just wait and see. Even without Amorim, the squad was and still is NOT good enough for either winning an UCL spot or even winning Europa League.

  22. Unfair, BS ratings for

De Winter – most of the game he was the only CB covering for others. 6 rating minimun, he kept the scoreline under 5 goals.

Musah – only CM we had, plenty of short passes and trying to close out the multiple open areas. Spent most of the game being a team player.

    Overrated

Pavlovic. MAX 3 Rating. Check his positioning, its below amateur level. He goes forward without checking if there’s any cover. Football inteligence of a centipede. Bad passes all night. He abandoned De Winter too many times (hence De Winter deserves a much higher rating)

Jashari – dribbled when he should have passed, trying too hard to get an attacking highlight. Individual midfield play, we are lucky Musah prevented carnage.

Sailmakers – a RB who runs aimlessly around the pitch. Its like using a labrador to play chess. We like him cos he’s a good boy, but we need to get rid.

Players to get a by due to Amorin tactics

Ramos – strikers have a no support card.
Moriera – an attacking left winger brought on to support a defensive RWB labrador, why??
    Terraciano – wheres Fikayo??

  23. Team looks confused, without ideas. Not sure Amorim has as much time as he thinks to start showing intense press, offensive plays and wins.

  24. So a few things are obvious. Pulisic is our only creative threat. Cisse is not ready to be a starter. Ramos is not Giroud and our defense still falls asleep a few times a game. Cisse is a 1 dimensional player right now which is understandable he’s still in braces. He can take chances in shooting but that’s about all his game has right now. No vision to make a pass nor make a run in behind. We can’t keep starting him. Pulisic is the only one that looks to play someone in behind and knows how to ask questions of the defense. Hutch looks like he has talent but I don’t yet see that he can do what Pulisic does. This team lacks clear ideas and vision. I know that it’s hard to have a rebuilding season when you’re a team like Milan but if we’re going to commit to this coach, we’ll have to give him a few years to bring in the right people for his system because clearly, we only have a few that meet his needs. I think going back to a 433 or 4231 would do more harm than good. These players need to start learning how to play Amorim’s way so he has to make a choice does he REALLY want to play 3421 or will he think of something else? The worst thing would be to yo-yo. I think he needs to get really strict with his lineup moving forward before changing formations. Pulisic on the left with hutch on the right and maybe think of ways to get a different RWB in so Chuck can play right CAM if possible. LOTS of work to do…

    1. Finally, a sensible comment. In truth, I do not believe the team was ready to compete for Serie A (or any other competition). They just fired the entire board and brought a new young manager in the summer. While they did splash some cash, they were not able to sell most of their undesirables. Personally, I am fine if we waste this season, as long as we get to play either in Europa League (heck, even Conference League is acceptable now).

    2. Just a few weeks before getting the sack at Manchester United, Amorim told a reporter that, “The Pope himself couldn’t make me change my style.”

      I’m guessing he’s sticking with the 3-4-2-1.

    1. Jorge mendes: “in my opinion, mr cardinale is the best milan owner. I like him a lot. I hope mr cardinale stay as long as possible.”

  25. I am happy both Milan and Juve didn’t qualify for UCL as I know Como would do better. I am sure Como would beat this Benfica too. Juve and Milan are doing very poorly year in year out despite spending loads of transfer fees. Nobody intelligent would spend such kind of money on benchwarmers like Ramos, Kolo Muani.

  26. So Terra hadn’t played more than a Tool songs length so far this season, why was he just RANDOMLY started here??? I think hes good and can do a job, but when hes been on the bench the whole start of the season, why would you just throw him in to the 11 on a vital european night? One of many examples of Amorim playing brain dead lineups and somehow getting surprised it doesnt work…

    1. Terraciano is good??? For me he is the second worst player in our roster, behind only Estupiñán. The fact that Terracciano THIS time didn’t gift a goal to the opponents doesn’t magically make him good. Remember, he was playing on loan for a bottom feeder that got relegated to Serie B and not even them wanted to keep him, and then he is starting games for Milan? Amorim is out of his mind!

  27. I really loved to see jashari getting minutes but last night shows that he will never be our first choice midfield. Both goals were on him when he failed to block the shot and the assist. First shot he didnt help double team the shooter And seeems afraid to block the ball when strucked. The second one is while marking the crosser hes too far from the crosser to block the ball and also giving him a space to run to the middle and shoot

    1. For me it was clear long time ago that he is not capable of playing in this team. Should’ve been sold to Atalanta whenever there was a chance.

  28. The sorry state of AC Milan today! To be a fan, you have to be a bit of a masochist. All that’s left is to reminisce about the good old days. I don’t think I’ll even watch the next match. They don’t deserve it…

  29. Difficult to figure out the coach and his approach to things (rotation, experimenting, trying to get the maximum out of all his players, etc.)…but he needs to settle on his first 11 and introduce others where possible. It is not always good to chase games. All a clever opponent need to do is score a few goals in the 1st half and close shop in the 2nd half…you burn energy chasing a game instead of controlling it, especially with an experimental line up such as the one we started with. And what is happening with our leaky defense🙆🤷‍♂️

  30. Amorim can do no wrong no. He knows what he is doing. O’ Gabbs where are you? Come defend this clownish coach and why he keeps picking a weak 11 always ?,🤔

  31. 5th coach in 3 years and he’s not doing any better than previous 4. On top of that, 150 millions for 3 acquisitions and close to no sales.

Damn, wouldn’t want to be Gerry.

  32. I think we are closing down on the best 11, which is not 100% clear yet.
In the middle so far, Rabiot and Musah look like the best choice (Modric, Jashari and Comotto as subs).
In defense, Pavlovic, De Winter, Gila (Barte can be sub for Pavlo and Gabbia for De Winter/Gila) *we have to buy another CB in January.
On wings. Saele/Moreira/Chuku (Saele and Moreira can play both wings, thus subbing Chuku or each other)
    CAM – Cisse/Puli/Hutchinson
    CF – Ramos/Camarda

NO MORE Terrachano, RLC, or Estupinan

  33. Let us not do more than ourselves. We should all remember that this is an assemblage of new players and new coach. Every little thing we complain. Not that I’m happy we were defeated but we need to calm down. Putting pressure on d players and coach will not lead us anywhere. Right now ,it will be difficult to achieve Milan of Berlusconi time. One the ways we can get there is to be patient . One of the things we seriously lacking is d midfield….we all saw how Musa and Jashari were just pushing the ball around and no end results.

  34. I failed to understand this guy. In the first game of European competition against a team like Benfica and he started with players like Terracciano who failed the team during the preseason like he always did with Estupiñán. I started to feal that Amorim is far from the coach AC Milan is expecting

  35. I find it hilarious that folks in this forum are trying to convince themselves and the other gullibles that this team is somehow better off without Leao…not adequately replacing him is mistake #1, mistake #2 is not starting Rabiot in the MF and mistake # 3 is not starting Pulisic in attack. Mistake # 4 was Jashari starting. Mistake # 5 was hiring Amorim The Destroyer.
