Milan players pre Verona game

Player Ratings: AC Milan 1-0 Hellas Verona – Gimenez decides; Leao gives and takes

AC Milan clinched three very important points against Hellas Verona thanks to a goal from their star striker Santiago Gimenez. A few more were involved in the action tonight and below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Starting XI

Maignan (5.5): It might sound strange given he kept a clean sheet, but the Frenchman had a couple of really poor fumbles which could have proved costly. He also wasn’t convincing with his communication, while no bold passes were attempted at all.

Walker (6): Good moments in both phases of the game, but especially around the halfway line where he intercepted/won back the ball a lot. It was right to take him off for Jimenez, though, as the latter arguably is better in the attacking phase.

Gabbia (6): His passing was subpar on some occasions, and a few duels created some problems, but overall he defended well. The defending is obviously what matters the most but to really improve, he must become as good (and bold) as Thiaw with the passing.

Thiaw (6.5): He lost one 1v1 against Sarr at the start of the game but after that, he defended with confidence and with success as well. He was also the only Milan player who, in the build-up, was able to deliver good vertical passes and thus create chances for the Rossoneri attackers. When you face a low-sitting team, that is so important.

Hernandez (6): Overall, you have to say that it was solid from the Frenchman. Nothing spectacular at the back, nor in attack, but he did what was required from him and also had a couple of nice crosses which could have resulted in more.

Fofana (5.5): It was quite a lot better than some of the games we have seen from him recently, with some good moments on the ball and above all good positioning in defence. However, once again, he had a few too many giveaways which resulted in turnovers for the opponents. In addition to that, he could have added more in the attacking/build-up phase.

Reijnders (6.5): Since Verona sat back and defended for almost the entire game, the Dutchman was able to have a more advanced role and it served him well. He nearly scored after a great individual action in the first half and in the second, he often took matters into his own hands and dribbled past the Verona defenders.

Musah (5.5): Yes, he had a couple of good moments when going forward but he also missed several chances, one of which really needed to be put away. Milan cannot afford chances like that. Apart from a tactical yellow card early on, at least he was solid defensively which saves his rating a little.

Joao Felix (6.5): We still need to see some more end product, i.e. assists and goals, but he was involved in a lot today and nearly scored with a perfect cross/shot. He also won a lot of fouls and opened up space for his teammates by being successful on the ball.

Sottil (5.5): Aside from one good low cross, which someone arguably should have got on the end of, the Fiorentina loanee struggled to have an impact on the game and it was definitely right to take him off.

Gimenez (7 – MOTM): The Mexican created a fantastic chance for Musah at the end of the first half, but aside from that the first 45 minutes were relatively quiet. Of course, he still managed to get the job done with a tap-in winner, being at the right place at the right time. His second goal in four outings (only two of these from start), so he’s doing what Milan signed him for.

Substitutes

Jimenez (6.5): He needs some anger management, always too quick to pick a fight which can be very costly, but we must commend him for the action on the goal. It was an absolutely lovely dink over the defenders to find Leao, and it created everything. He was also good overall when going forward, adding more incisiveness than Walker.

Leao (6.5): The run and assist for the winner were both really good, there is no doubt about it, but the winger also had multiple chances to score himself. One when he arguably could have squared it, another when he threw himself to the ground instead. Naturally, he was a big upgrade to Sottil and ended up being decisive, but this man is still struggling to live up to his potential.

Pulisic (N/A): To be honest, aside from a few decent moves just after he came on, we didn’t see enough of him and thus cannot give a rating here.

Abraham (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Terracciano (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

      1. I love how the “best on the pitch” couldn’t hit the target on that sitter. And almost took two yellow cards in two consecutive matches. Lucky to escape the red this time.

  1. Game changed because of Leao when he came on. MOTM imo. Santi got almost no service until he came on and his goal is basically set on a platter due to his work. Great finish by Santa Claus btw. Mike handling is becoming really sus. There’s no way Deers is 6.5, I didn’t see him take the game by the scruff of the neck. Poor midfield as usual means we’ll continue to suffer. Poor tactics or system of play doesn’t help either.

Can barely score against the worse defence in the league? Thats appalling, putting it lightly. But it’s 3 points and another clean sheet. Burn the tapes and on to the next game

    1. Hard to gauge the midfielders because of the low block Verona played with. The likes of Reijnders don’t get through that very well. But also it was him with a dangerous shot on goal and not Felix.

I feel like Felix and Reijnders occupy the same spot naturally, so Reijnders can’t even make the same runs forward with Felix there.

      1. Agreed regarding Felix and Reijnders. The latter has already scored 11 goals in all competitions this season. Imagine what he could do if he played as AM every game.

  2. The 3 points and Alex Jimenez 2nd half performance were the only positives today.
Jimenez, not Gimenez was the MOTM, he was everywhere and involved in everything in the 2nd half. It’s a shame he isn’t on the UCL list.
Almost no real goalscoring chances created vs by far the worst defense in the league, just like few weeks ago in Verona. Verona have given up 54 goals this season in serie A, the 2nd worst is Parma with 44 and Milan was lucky to score in both of their games vs them this season.
Conceição should only play Musah in the center of the midfield not out wide.
Did Maignan catch any ball clean today?
Hopefully luck will be on Milan side on Tuesday, because i don’t go into any game confident than Milan can beat any team.

    1. I agree Jimenez was the MOTM based on the pass to Leao alone, which really created the goal. Milan need to find a way to keep him he’s young, can play both sides, skilled with both feet, has a lot of energy, we need more players with his abilities

      1. Not even close, for every decent play he makes, he makes at least 6-7 errors beforehand. Gets an inflated rating every game just because he’s young. The chip today was a good idea and well executed, but the several misplaced passes, losses in possession shouldn’t be ignored. Also constantly shocking in defense, usually jumps in and then just fouls his man. Should not be played as a wingback.

    2. Happy for the win, but I agree, so few clear chances created. In the first half, there were a couple of half-chances and the Musah miss. Really hoping to see better patterns of play with this team, but it seems to be more of the same. Hell, our goal was scored with a chip ball to a run in behind… but for the 90′, I didn’t see enough of that.

    3. I love the fact that you appreciate the young lad for having a good game today. What irks me always is whenever a player made a costly mistake in the field and we start condemning them forgetting the time they have always performed

    4. It wasn’t an amazing performance by all means, but another positive is that Verona didn’t create anything, and even then, Mike didn’t fumble a goal. Clean sheet at home against one of the worst teams in the league at San Siro? I’ll take it. The new kit fitted the performance as well to be honest.

  3. I really don’t know what happened to Maignan but today he seemed like it’s his first time as a keeper.

Jimenez should also been rated as a 7 this kid gave his best and kept running!

  4. Overall team play is OK. It is not fantastic, but they kept pushing. This team have a big space for upgrading their game play. Now it all depends what is going to happen in next 10 games of serie a and in next season.
What is in red bird mind. Can they figure it out what is the missing piece?
You can see now how Felix takes the ball and organise the attack. Pulisic and Felix are 2 smart and technical players who can create differences in attack. And Leao still can run fast.

There is definitely potential now is time for better results.

  5. Jimenez needs to be a starter. This kid is crazy in the head but he’s a hell of a player, I’d start him on the right over Musah any day of the week.

Felix MOTM for me, great performance…

    1. Yep, he’s talented but his temper will kill his career ever before if rises, if he keeps getting senseless cards for always reacting to provocations this way.
He brings energy sure, but if he was carded a 2nd time, seeing out the game would be tense. Someone should speak to him.

    2. He had a big impact on the second half. But he’s got to cut these reactions out. That was awfully close to a straight red card. It was 59th minute. Had it happened, then he would have been the clear flop of the match after coming on at half time.
Instead the referee took it easy on him and he makes the killer pass that wins us the game.

Fine line of him throwing it all away with a silly reaction card.

In fairness though. That also should have been a second yellow for Duda and he should have been sent for the same incident.

  6. 3 points is three points. At this point (Heh heh) I really don’t care how.
Shoutout for Leao who I think might’ve had a black eye (I think so) and got an assist. And Gabbia’s back in the lineup, always good to see. Also, Mike would’ve got a higher rating if it weren’t for Wednesday.

  7. Ugly, Ugly football. Embarrassing and hard to watch.
From what I can tell our defensive strategy is to grab the opposing players and pick up 5 or 6 yellow cards every match and our offensive strategy seems to be to dive and flop all over the pitch and hope to draw a foul or a penalty. Portuguese football at its finest. Counting the days until he leaves.

    1. Does anyone notice our players pushing opponents from behind more often now? I hardly ever saw it under Fonseca. Sergio seems to have instructed his players to be more “aggressive”. It’s not yielding fruits as I see it. Just an accumulation of unnecessary cards.

      1. Especially Leao has started pushing people’s back with two arms. I bet Sergio has asked for “toughness” but I don’t think this is what he wanted.

    2. Capello played ugly football and won a lot of games 1-0 and he won Serie A with Milan with won of the worse goal scoring teams. But his defense was tight. Conceição is a coach who likes his teams to be solid in defense.

In 1994, AC Milan won Serie A by scoring 36 goals in 34 games with Capello. Talk about boring games. This is nothing under Conceição.

  8. We need to get the ball to Gimenez more. He always looks dangerous.
Musah was getting forward a lot. I love his energy but he seldom uses the ball well in the final 3rd.
I’d prefer to see him stay back in midfield and let others go forward more.

Strange game overall. Our defence was only rarely put under pressure. It took a long time unlock their defence.

      1. I find myself just waiting for the turnover/mistake every time he has the ball in the final 3rd.

You can see his potential. Hoping he can improve but it seems his best roles are in the back half.

        1. rafa lost the ball 17 times in 45 min. But making a mistake in the final third is what has to happen to score…

The lower De Bruyne’s passing completion rate got, the more assists he would get because its about safe places to lose the ball. That said, he was not allowed to take players 1v1 from a central position because it put the team at high risk…id argue musahs limitations at the wing come from being too conservative in not wanting to lose the ball because hes a midfielder.

      2. Musah is a midfielder not winger. He is a mini Kessie and in 2-3 years he will be a very good player if Milan STOP playing him on the wings and play him in the double pivot in midfield.

      3. ” 0 end product”

That pretty much sums up his whole career. It’s called lack of quality.

LIke leao they allow these players on the field because they have incredible pace. If it wasn’t for their pace they wouldn’t be on the first team.

      4. that describes a lot of players…but in the midfield, you have some decent players who won champions league who fit that criteria. Musah floated right in front of the player who took the ball off rafa and forced a bad pass, recovery before the goal. its small, but it’s very hard to measure playing defense with positioning/covering space.

  9. It was like watching Ranieri football. Only bright sparks were Leao(if very wasteful as usual), Jiminez, Felix and Reijnders, Mike needs to focus, Gabbia looks slow after the injury he had, Theo and Leao need to concentrate and react on balls played by our midfielders too often they’re way too static. There are talks of both getting sold here in Italy so who knows how this plays out

  10. The squad afforded few opportunities to Verona and kept a clean sheet; no red cards, no injuries, many players were able to rest without playing 90 minutes for the essential game against Feyenoord on Tuesday and we got the 3 points, getting much closer to Lazio, Juventus, Fiorentina and Bologna, which is helpful for the objective of finishing in 4th place. Those are the positives and there are a lot of positives. However it wasn’t pretty and we struggled a lot to create more, against low-quality opponents who conceded 5 goals to Atalanta.

Maignan – 5.5. Imprecise, not decisively clearing balls but fumbling a couple, not so good with his feet, a forgettable performance. He doesn’t get a pass but doesn’t get lower than 5.5 given the clean sheet.

Walker – 6. Was adequate in defense, but not very efficient to help the offense. Gets a pass for no major errors.

Thiaw – 6.5. Defended well, solidly, and had a couple of attempts to head the ball in which could have ended better. Did miss one duel early on but was solid after that.

Gabbia – 6. Seems like his confidence hasn’t be the best after the blunder a few games back; he looks indecisive to me, but no major mistake, so gets a pass.

Theo – 6. Rather anonymous performance but also no mistakes so he also gets a pass.

Fofana – 5. Not a good game. Lost balls, wasn’t incisive in recovering balls and had his usual very poor finishing attempt.

Reijnders – 7. A very good attempt that wasn’t a score by sheer merit of the goalkeeper. Trying hard, creative enough. Our second best player today; would have been MOTM if that attempt had ended in the back of the net.

Felix – 6.5. Drew a lot of yellow cards which kept the opponents less able to defend vigorously. Almost scored once, again the goalkeeper saved well. Tried hard. The end product is still missing, though, so despite the positives he doesn’t earn more than a bit above a pass.

Musah – 5. You just can’t miss such a sitter. Did have a decent attempt that was high by just a little, and as usual tried hard but also as usual, no end product.

Gimenez – 7.5 – MOTM. Scored a beautiful goal correctly called back for a narrow offside. Produced what should have been an assist if my mother was playing instead of Musah. Then scored the winner. That’s 3 great plays, and could have had more if he had more service.

Sottil – 5. Very pale start. Didn’t do much right and within 10 minutes had already missed 3 balls. Had one decent cross but that was it; everything else was rather mistaken.

    Subs

Rafael Leão – 6.5. Had the gorgeous assist that unblocked the game but that was pretty much his only good action of the 45 minutes he played. Would have had at most a 5.5 but producing the winning goal deserves a bump up of one full point. However people need to realize that Rafa has been nurturing an ankle injury for a while, reportedly. Still, this was his 16th goal participation this season which is not bad, despite being so irregular.

Pulisic – 6. Nothing wrong but didn’t have the time to do much. It’s good that he rested most of the time because reportedly he was a bit under the weather.

Jimenez – 7. Entered very well, had one of his best games for Milan, and was instrumental for the goal. Needs to cool off, not to get red carded. He is an angry guy. But he did revitalize the offense when he came in.

Terracciano – 6. I’m shocked but he actually played well during his few minutes and cleared two important attempts at attacking by Verona.

Abraham 5.5. Didn’t really add anything to the team and was the least effective sub.

Mister Conceição – 6. No, it wasn’t pretty but the squad did play compact and high, giving to Verona few opportunities. He went all offensive with his subs as we needed the 3 points, and ultimately it paid off. Maybe his best decision was to bring in Jimenez who did play very well.

  11. It’s obvious Milan is Leao and vice versa, love or hate him without Leao this team goes no where. If he shoes up half way we still win, if he shows up fully we are the best and on his bad day we are always poor

    1. What are you talking about?? he hurts the team as much as he helps them. He’s a rhythm killer , turn overs left and right and making the wrong plays.

        1. That’s a juvenile response. How many goals did he take from his teammates from scoring if he made the right pass? It goes both ways.

Are you telling me that a player can crap all over the field , faking his fouls in the box when he should of stayed strong because HES IN THE BOX makes mistake after mistake but if he scores an assist that erases everything else he did??

Is that where the bar is?

          1. Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying. Last I checked football matches are won by putting the ball in the net, so as long as the defense does his job all we need is a goal. As long as someone unlocks the game by creating or scoring one I don’t care how many mistakes he makes for the rest of the match.

          2. “Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying. Last I checked football matches are won by putting the ball in the net, so as long as the defense does his job all we need is a goal. As long as someone unlocks the game by creating or scoring one I don’t care how many mistakes he makes for the rest of the match.”

And how about e.g. Feyenoord match where Leao did absolutely nothing? He played as poorly against Verona but got one assist. What do you say about his performance against Feyenoord then? It’s OK? He would have been AMAZING had he gotten an assist? 😀 😀 😀

  12. For those who think that Conceição hasn’t improved things, Ibra mentioned something interesting that I hadn’t realized: since Conceição was hired, Milan earned 14 points in Serie A, while the leaders Napoli earned only one more at 15. Not to forget that he did get a trophy, beating our two biggest rivals, and advanced in Coppa Italia beating another rival.

Yes, it’s been ups and downs, but it’s not so easy for a coach to come mid-season into a sinking ship and a poorly built team. Overall I believe that his two months have been way more positive than Fonseca’s 6 months.

      1. Points help coaches and the team to breathe. It helps create time to implement personal tactics. That was the problem under Fonseca. I’d rather ugly football and 3 points than trying to implement your system that confuses players.. and especially before showing proof that you can get points first

        1. “ I’d rather ugly football and 3 points than trying to implement your system that confuses players.”
LMAO y’all are hilarious. Guardiola has a system and last time I checked, he’s winning with that system. Y’all will always find excuses for Conceiçao and the lazy players that don’t know what playing under a tactical coach means. But carry on my friend, the ugly football will get you the scudetto and Champs league. 👏🏾

          1. It’s not an excuse for Sarge. If u check my comments from like 3 rounds ago I was saying he’s probably gone in the summer based on the progress I’ve seen. All I’m saying I vastly prefer points over trying to superimposing a system on to players and losing. Points are what we need. Maybe I need to add impose rather than implement in the sentence. Does that help? That’s the problem Fonseca had, he didn’t win enough games. Didn’t buy himself time and needed to win ugly. For all his faults, we now have 2 back to back clean sheets and 3 points each.
And you are absolutely right about Pep, that’s what buying a proper coach gets you. It’s a big difference in quality. Real and tangible results,.just ask Napoli. We cheaped out…..twice!

          2. With all respect to pep, milan is never going to have that kind of treatment. Pep never work with small budgt and always working with the best players he can get ( regardless the most charges against city), so unless theres a change of shareholder we have to accept that the only way to win at current conditions is to find a coach who has to be suited with oir budger to implement his system. Not much coach this days can do that. Gasp is the one but still very hard to win trophies when u always has to sell your best players.

        2. “I’d rather ugly football and 3 points than trying to implement your system that confuses players..”
This is shortsighted thinking. Yes, in the short term this ugly football may get more points but this will not help the team take a step up in quality. If a manager tries to implement a more sophisticated style of play like Fonseca was trying to do it might take longer for the team and players to grasp and you may drop points in the short term but in the long run the ceiling is much higher.

    1. That’s a great point. I agree with you that his two months have been more positive, also considering that Fonseca had a full preseason with most of the squad while Conceiçāo came in mid-season to instill a new philosophy while playing a match every three days or so.

I will say Napoli I’ve had a slight dip in form lately so that definitely helps us haha, but yes, it’s a good reminder. And hey, if we can move up the table without playing our best football, just wait until we do!

    2. How do you watch so much soccer and not understand the game. While I understand not dumping on the guy because of the limited time he’s been here but please hold the praise. The team looks like complete crap.

  13. Take the 3 points and burn the tape. Souless display as usual, didn’t really create anything special. Leao coming to the rescue again. Buckle up, we’re in for a long and nervous rest of the season.

    1. I thought it was Jimenez who set Leao free and Gimenez who actually scored the goal? But sure, let’s all praise Leao for doing everything on his own again. 😀 😀 😀

  14. Musah as RW is awful , who put that idea into conceisao’s head 🤦 also he play him to much, very dumb player who shouldn’t play more than 60′ once in 3 matches

  15. People complain that it was not a beautiful performance. If Sergio manages to get a UCL spot, at this point it does not matter much if it is through “beautiful” or “ugly” football. Get the three points and run.
Leao might sleep for 44 mins, but for a single min he can solve the game. It is what it is, but probably better than someone who runs a lot with little efficiency, as some other Milan players do.

    1. It’s not about beautiful perfomance but being effective. This team is not. They struggle in every phase of the play from defense to offense. No connection, no roles, no plan. Nothing. Just a lot of running and chasing up and down the field.

  16. U watch every single game for us LMAO 🤣. Amazing. Surprised you didn’t get up at 5am to watch our Futuro play and provide an.alysis afterwards

  17. There is not much to be happy about Conceisao till now…

    He destroyed Reijnders
    He destroyed Pulisic
    He destroyed Fofana
    Leao lame as always,Theo too

    Nothing improved

    1. OH.. Conceicao did….

Not the fact that they’ve been playing every 3 days basically the whole season?

      hmmmmm…. Yea, no you’re right. It’s Conceicao’s fault.

  18. Good result by the boys, performance not as much. We didn’t give Verona almost anything, and we did manage to create, but overall it still felt clunky in attack. We need time to let these players gel.

I’m really starting to like this jimenez kid. Slowly slowly I’m starting to see the Theo Hernandez in him.

    1. 100%. Jimenez should be the starting LB. He’s got so much passion; he moved the ball ⚽️ forward each time he had it.

Musah should be central, agreed. He needs to learn to put the ball on frame. It’s maddening. He’s so good until the final third, as someone else wrote.

  19. By this point of the Conceciao era, I don’t care how the result is got, just the result. Mike was a little odd, but he only had one fumble, and in that he quickly recovered. Harsh. Joao Felix has been pretty good but it doesn’t seem to translate into numbers. He had 15/GA in his season at Barca, so there have been worse, but that needs some work. The next leg is crucial, but if we lose, less games for us on the bright side. But we really need to win the next game.

  20. Apart from getting the CBs to play long balls, I can’t figure out what the attacking impulse is half the time when we’re in possession. We’re playing ugly football right now and I think Conceicão is mostly to blame.

That being said, we got 3 points and at least a bit of rotation, so we’ll take it and move on.

  21. Gets a clean sheet with same CB combo Fonseca was using and he will still switch back to Tomori next. lol.

    Still not a convincing display.

  22. Leao was too bad today to get that 6.5, come on guys. Except the movement at that assist, he wasn’t even able to control well a few balls. Let alone the possession he lost a handful of times.

I disagree also for Reijnders, his second half was neutral at best, he looks out of form lately. 7 is too much, a 6 would have been more just.

Jimenez was the game changer today, he created the goal and strived to participate in the attacking phase. If someone deserves a 7 is him.

João also tried but he was having trouble to create trouble to Verona’s defence, a 6.5 would be more accurate.

Gimenez was good, but not the best of the squad, a 7 feels more well balanced.

Overall the team lacks automations in the last quarter of the pitch, they carry the ball around the area too much without creating perilous situations. It’s normal at one point, because João and Gimenez just arrived and they haven’t got yet a “connection” with the others. Likely after a few more games, the fluidity will start to appear in the attacking game.

Last, Jimenez should play as a defender, putting him in the flanks is wrong. And Musah has nice characteristics to become a Kessie-like player. He has to man up defensively to do do.

    1. He has the first touch of 4 year old at times. That’s no b.s.
Embarrassing to call him a professional footballer with a first touch like that.

Im starting to think that he’s mentally challenged or something. At this level no one should be playing like that.

      1. This talk about Musah has to stop – I believe you are the mentally challenged person here and others like you.
He’s a young player who is one of the first on the team sheet under this coach. His team mates pass to him (a lot), so they trust him. He is far more effective in MF than Fofana and yet he gets ripped to pieces in here by people that have no idea about what it takes to play football for a big club like Milan.
Never mind, the normal ‘butt’ Will be here to kick soon, Emerson, which should keep you busy.

    2. Musah contributes far more offensively than Fofana. He plays solid defense and routinely covers 11k-12k per game. He penetrates and unbalances the defense. Yes, he can’t finish but pls remember that he’s only 22.

It’s hurtful to suggest that anyone, much less a professional athlete who speaks multiple languages is mentally challenged. In fact, it’s pretty clear that you’re the idiot with your unfounded comment.

      1. he’s talking about Leao I believe…who did lose the ball 17 times in 45 min…but also made a great play…
either way, after watching them against Madrid, the implication would be that they can both dominate a team that wins the champions league regularly but also not play at the level needed to compete in Serie A. Implying that players of the quality at Madrid would not make it in serie a. which seems unlikely but i can’t prove that wrong…besides when they play against them in european compeitition.

  23. Was Leao play and that sequence a thing of beauty?

I think so but in no freaking way does that excuse what you he did before that while behaving like man child and floppy around in the box. Pathetic.

    He gets 4.8.

  24. Leao saved himself with that assist because honestly he sucked again today. I don’t know if he is regressing or lacking confidence at the moment but he looks horrible. I’d give the MOTM to Alex Giménez. Wasn’t perfect but he set up the goal. Everyone else was just not that good today. Barely beat Verona at home. Better play better Tuesday at home.

  25. Rijnders, jimenez and gimenez are carrying this milan! This was not a good repetition! We saw how feyenoord played against us today i missed a lot of aggression and creativity to make a good comeback against feyenoord! Milan need to step up their game! We will lose a lot of respect if we get kicked out of the Cl by feyenoord!!! With al the coached we saw pioli was not that bad! Yeah there where some points where he could improve but he is human we can all improve

  26. Guys, slowly but we are improving. This was more or less the first balanced game of the season. We conceded nothing and created enough. Inter and Empoly were also good showings. Lets get the job done on Tuesday and take it from there.

  27. To who hated Leo… this guy did the most part to make us score. He is still our best player imo he is not the problem it is our midfield

  28. Just an observation. We should play we with back 3 and better use our wingback options. We have theo, walker as starters + Jimenez, salaesmaker & terraciano next season. Would be great to play walker as one of 3 backs then use Jimenez or salaesmaker as wingbacks. Both are too good to be bench players giving much more width & flair. Ie 343, 352, 3331 etc. Conceicao should be better utilise our squad.

  29. Milanisti have to realize that to achieve our results we’re gonna have to have a lot of ugly games. I don’t care of ugly these wins or displays are so long as we get to our objectives.

Hard to judge Conceicao having taken over half way through with a squad full of bad habits. And these guys sure play ugly. Not a lot of cohesion since Gimenez and Felix came on – but that part is understandable.

    1. Exactly 💯
At this point in the season I welcome ugly wins. Points are what we need.. we’ll figure sh!t out at the end of the season

      1. Conceiçao is 3 points clear from Fonseca’s in their first 7 games.

        Fonzy – 7 games, 11 points
        Sergio – 7 games, 14 points

        Small improvement but still.

        1. I’d give a bigger advantage to Conceicao’s results given that he inherited a tiring squad, whereas Fonseca had them fresh from the summer.

          1. ” Fresh from the summer”. You mean straight from the Euros right after playing an entire season?
He didn’t even have Theo available for the first game of the season because he needed to rest off the Euros. He didn’t have time to work with the starters in the off-season so stop pushing that false narrative. If you remember the pre season with the players he actually did get to work with the team looked quite impressive.
Also Fonseca didn’t have Kyle Walker, Giminez or Jao Felix to work with. Conceicao undoubtedly has a stronger squad to work with and still putting this unwatchable product out there. If all you care about is that he has somehow managed to get results while playing absolutely horrid football, that’s fine but don’t fool yourself into thinking the performances are any better, they are actually far worse and the luck will soon run out.
I notice people only talk about Serie A and not Champions League where Fonseca had the team doing quite well and in good position to finish top eight, which has now completely collapsed.
It’s kind of funny see the people saying Conceicao just needs more time are the same people that were calling for Fonseca’s head 3 games into the season.

          2. “Also Fonseca didn’t have Kyle Walker, Giminez or Jao Felix to work with.”

No, because HE WANTED MILAN TO BUY EMERSON ROYAL!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀

  30. Leao doesn’t realize that falling down everytime he is touched is costing some goal scoring opportunities. He is strong enough to fight through some of these fouls and get a shot off but he insists on flopping onto the ground.

    He will never grow up…

  31. These rating are always hilarious. Same old same old. Isak has his favorites and the ones he always bags on.

What’s also funny are the comments from a lot of donkeys bashing Leao. He came on created a lot of chances and created the game winner – BUT – still ppl bash. News flash he isn’t and will never be Ronaldo. Once you accept that you will be realistic in your expectations. Second, we have been trying to replace him with other wingers for 2 years – and guess what – we simply cannot. Nobody in Serie A draws that much attention which frees up everyone else to score. So many so called fans want us to sell him. Ok well be careful what you wish for cause instead of Leao you will have players like an Okafor or Sottil type to replace him. Good times. LOL.

    1. Bingo!
Sottil ? Lol 😂 exactly. What a massive difference Leao was. If ppl didn’t realize the impact he had on the game then can’t help them

      1. The game changed when Puli came on, but interestingly not because he came one.

Musah to mid and suddenly we are seeing chances. The ball stays in HV half. Jimenez, Leao and Gimenez took advantage of one such chance. Musah himself missed by inches. Leao had a turn and shoot in the 6yd box

Fofana is exhausted. Musah making that sort of diff says it all. I like Musah and have been in saying since last year he is a game changer off the bench but needs consistent time in the midfield.

We have Fofanas deputy and with Bondo a third pivot. An actual rotation. Reinjders has created the most from farther back when Fonzy was still in charge.

Leao coming on didn’t change the game. Musah to pivot did. Weird but just watch for when Puli comes on and it’s obvious.

        1. Puli? I love the guy but the momentum shifted clearly when Leao came on and he was causing problems down his side for some time before Puli came on. Puli came on later and added legitimacy to the right wing though. But it wasn’t a super imposing day for Pulisic

    2. “News flash he isn’t and will never be Ronaldo. Once you accept that you will be realistic in your expectations.”

Leao fanboys lowering the bar for him every day.
Newsflash. Leao needs to stop acting like he is Ronaldo while providing the production of Saelemaekers and the work ethic of a sloth. Nobody, but his fanboys like you ever thought of Ronaldo when watching Leao.
Oh, be careful what you wish for if you sell Leao. Milan is 7th with Leao, they can be 7th without him. How will we ever be able to replace his 5g and 5a in 25 games so far this season?
Outside of the action leading to the goal he didn’t do anything else right, lost the ball repeatedly, flopped or passed to the wrong team. Teams are only worried about his speed certainly isn’t for his football ability.

      1. LOL! There he is!! The Redbird Loving, self-proclaimed masturbator to Gerry Cardinale posters – @🔴⚫️! Where u been? We missed you kid. Put shopping for more Gerry posters to hang in moms basement cause the old ones got a bit dirty?? 🤣

Nah not a fanboy at all. But what I do realize from a football perspective is that Leao constantly draws 2-3 players on him – whenever he touches the ball – which frees up players like Pulisic to score or create. The games in which he doesn’t play we struggle offensively. That is a fact. AND That is his VALUE kid. Should he be more clinical in front of goal? Absolutely. Will he ever be? Probably not. Unfortunately he is not a pure goal scorer. He even admitted that. Perhaps this is the best we are gonna get. 10-15 goals per season and 15 assists in all comps.

“outside of the action leading to the goal he didn’t do anything” …..- you do realize this WON the game right?? Did anyone else create the chance to score the winner?? NO you dip$h*t. You think Sergio is upset he put Leao on for the ineffective Sottil? Do you think he wished he had Okafor back instead of Leao?? Ask Pulisic if he prefers playing opposite Leao or would rather have a player like Sottil. Hahahahaha!! You a proper a$$🤡

“teams are worried about his speed certainty isn’t for his football ability” – LOL. So??? First that isn’t true, and shows you know nothing about PLAYING football. If it was so easy they would sign in his prime Usain Bolt and put him on the wing – if it was “just for his speed” you donkey. BUT it is not genius. This isn’t Xbox kid.

Keep on stewing in you Leao and Maldini HATE bro. Keep on beating off to those Gerry posters. And keep on pretending you know anything about football – it suits you well🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

        1. “But what I do realize from a football perspective is that Leao constantly draws 2-3 players on him – whenever he touches the ball – which frees up players like Pulisic to score or create. The games in which he doesn’t play we struggle offensively. That is a fact.”

But what I do realize from a football perspective is that Pulisic constantly draws 2-3 players on him – whenever he touches the ball – which frees up players like Leao to score or create. The games in which he doesn’t play we struggle offensively. That is a fact.

    3. He failed over and over again today. Yes he had one good flick for the assist but he’s been very poor lately. Why can’t they sell him and use the money to get a good winger? They don’t have to replace him with mediocrity. Although this management would probably screw it up. Also the game changed when Pulisic came on and they moved Musah to mid.

  32. We still rely a lot from the wings. We suffer a lot vs low block teams for many reasons but the three reasons that are the most obvious are:
    1. We slow the game a lot we find that little space. Too many touches and not many through balls. No one looks for that empty space, very static. Except our new CF who is still fresh from previous club. That’s one of the most fundamental things that a coach gotta do in training. Players still not used of playing together plays a part in it as well.
    2. Our game in the air is really bad.
Besides more creativity in the midfield that is needed, the players gotta get used to one another. We have more than half of our squad that haven’t got settled yet. That’s when big coaches make the difference in this regard. Anyways, 3 points in the bag is good for our goals.
    3. What a mess our managment is. Our senior players realized that and maybe that’s why we get these poor performances from them, more often than normal I guess, and they want to move away. Like others said it in the past. Poor management mirrors into poor performances.

      1. Oh and our management isn’t a mess? Let’s see, 2 coaches in 7 months give it or take. Players brought in the summer were sent out in the winter. Aimless merkato (except this winter). Obvious incompetence. Not to mention not being close to the team. And these are just to name a few. If we the fans spot these. Professional, seasoned players have discovered this long time ago.

  33. No team pressing, no coordination—felt like we were playing without a coach. At home against Verona, the fans alone should have been enough to win, so 1-0 means nothing. Still, congrats to Santi on his goal! 👍🏻

  34. I hope we qualify on Tuesday if we do then the coach is doing a good job his new with a team that has a low spirit… Ugly or not 3points is wot we need if we manange to get 3point from our outstanding then we are 2points away from 4th position Forza Milan

  35. It’s not about beautiful perfomance or ugly win but being effective. This team is not. They struggle in every phase of the play from defense to offense. No connection, no roles, no plan. Just a lot of running and chasing up and down the field.

Verona are the worst team for conceded goals with 53 conceded goals this season. Atalanta put 5 behind them, yet we struggle to get one past them. And again it showed our reliance on individual brilliance of one inconsistent and spoiled player. Not acceptable.

    1. 100% correct ted. But according to Ibra. Concesao has 2 teams to choose from. Incompetence at the top mirrors the performances on the field.

    2. This is spot on my friend which is why after yesterday game based on your point s made I said there is no revival of this team. Just piss poor football give all the talent they have.

    3. 100% true. Relying on individual brilliance reminds me of Pioli ball again. Conceição is constantly showing he has no tactics. We always have horrible first half under him without any plans of scoring but I thought it would be different against Verona but we still needed to throw the kitchen sink before we score one goal against Verona!!! I can’t accept this mediocrity even tho most fans are accepting the “ugly football” as the call it. Smh

  36. Even though Verona have conceded the most goals in Serie A, it’s not easy beating them when they set up like this. They sat back almost the whole game. With our positions in the league and champions league, we are under more pressure to get results. That’s why the coach doesn’t waste time taking off anyone who’s not playing well. It affects the balance of play, but, we cannot afford any slip-ups. This is the situation we have found ourselves in, so it seems we may not see any fancy, beautiful, games for now. Over time, I see this team becoming better. You can see the belief and excitement in the team since the January signings.
