AC Milan were in need of three points against Como but only managed to clinch one. Ardon Jashari played a big part in the near-comeback and below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

Starting XI
Maignan (4.5): At the end of the day, especially considering Como had barely created anything before their goal, his howler was decisive. There were a few good stops after that but such a massive mistake cannot be brushed aside.
Tomori (6): He was a bit unlucky not to get a goal today, denied by a fantastic save just after Como’s opener. In defence, I thought he was okay but not much more, especially since he was unnecessarily rash in a few situations.
De Winter (7): His growth in recent weeks is truly commendable. Tonight, he imposed himself from the get-go with good positioning, duels won and also initiatives taken in the build-up. He continued to do well when he moved to the left.
Pavlovic (6): Due to a knock, he was taken off at half-time but in the first 45 minutes, he did pretty well in both phases of the game. Probably would have been a 6.5 with a bit more playing time and some more actions to go by.
Athekame (5.5): Aside from a couple of half-decent crosses, he didn’t really have much success tonight. His touch let him down a few times too, including once when he almost broke through on goal after receiving a ball over the top.
Ricci (5.5): He didn’t add loads to Milan’s game in possession and he also lost the ball a few times. Allegri certainly made the right decision to take him off pretty early in the second half.
Modric (7): His work-rate, combined with smart passing in tight situations, was absolutely crucial for Milan tonight. This was especially noticeable at the start of the second half, when it seemed like he was everywhere and quickly got up to press (and win back the ball).
Jashari (7.5 – MOTM): Really great stuff from the big-money signing, not only helping a lot in the build-up but also bringing the ball forward himself. His absility to keep hold of possession, thanks to the low centre of gravity, is also very impressive. And I haven’t even mentioned the assist, which showcased his vision and passing skills.
Bartesaghi (6): A decent night for him, nothing more and nothing less. While we have seen more fireworks from him in other games this season, it’s not necessarily bad when a player is consistent in a game.
Nkunku (5.5): There were perhaps a couple of good moments here and there, but all things considered, he didn’t do enough to elevate Milan’s attack tonight and that was a shame. The positioning wasn’t quite there.
Leao (6.5): Truth be told, it was a pretty frustrating performance from him aside from the goal, as he didn’t get involved that much and often played it backwards when he did. Then again, his dink rescued a point for us tonight (and kept the unbeaten run alive) so that counts for a lot.
Substitutes
Gabbia (6): He did what was needed from him tonight, pretty much, even if there were a couple of shaky moments in Milan’s penalty box in the second half.
Saelemaekers (6): This situation definitely helped Milan gain some momentum before the goal, which was very important. However, the Belgian was lucky not to get a second yellow in the dying minutes after a silly and rash challenge.
Fofana (6): Just like the subs above, he helped with building some momentum, winning back the ball and running a lot. Who knows what the rating would have been if he had played 90 minutes, but there’s no denying his entrance helped.
Fullkrug (5.5): It was very obvious what Milan wanted to do with him, but ultimately, I’m not so sure he had a big impact on the game (strayed offside a few times too). Maybe the physical battles he had with the Como defenders helped put them off balance, so perhaps a 6 was deserved?
Pulisic (N/A): I didn’t see enough from him to be able to give a rating here.
The manager
Allegri (6): I actually do agree with the decision to start Jashari, Modric and Ricci in midfield, even if some might have some question marks about the latter. The substitutions (almost all) also had the desired effect. However, the attack was extremely toothless at times, so it’s only just about a pass here.

I think the good thing for AC Milan is that after any loss, a team always has to perform in their next game, and they have to win. So, Milan has the chance to again go at it and gain points if Inter loses or draws their next game.
AC Milan has a striker problem, and it is about fitness and has nothing to do with having enough strikers. So, this problem will keep nagging this team.

Today our coach cost us the game. With a sensible lineup, we would have had a sure victory: winning the first leg away against a top Como team, drawing at home against a poor Como team.
Well, at least we didn’t lose, but he finally has to play with a real striker.
What sensible line-up? We have nobody available. Our best player this season was suspended. Our forwards are banged-up. Even a good defender like Pavlovic got injured. Saelemaekers is coming back from injury. Our roster is too short. Allegri can’t magically produce a better lineup; he doesn’t have that many players to field.
It depends. Can Pulisic really only play 10 minutes? 30 minutes would have given him more time to get in the game. If he can’t go 30 then that’s not on Allegri but he played 15 the last game so I’d be surprised if he can’t go 30. And why can’t he switch to a 4-3-3 and have puli and Leao with Fulkrug for 30 minutes. Or even Nkunku/Fulkrug/Leao?

Another boring game. It opened up after the goal but closed again after 1-1. Como where tight in defence. But our push at the ens was incredibly weak. I don’t like that Saelemaekers is so left footed. It hinders us from put balls into the box. He always strays inside insted of putting the ball into the box. Athecame is better at delivering. If we have Füllkrug then he needs som balls to work with. But all in all. I’m glad we got a point at least since we didn’t really cause that much threat during 95 % of the game.

Fair result after another poor showcase of serie A football. If it wasn’t for the 2 idiotic mistakes by both goalkeepers, we wouldn’t have seen any goals. Outside of the 2 howlers by the GKers neither team created anything resembling a chance.
As bad as Maignan was on his assist for Como’s goal, 5 minutes later he was even worse. Nico Paz sends a cross from set piece, ball is about to drop in the 6 yard box and Maignan, as usual on crosses, rooted as a tree didn’t move a muscle, but luckily for him and Milan Tomori flew in and cleared the danger. One of the worst goalkeepers on crosses that I have ever seen.
Instead of subbing off Athekame, Allegri should have subbed off Bartesaghi.

Jashari looked very good, but he and Modric should not play together. His passing was good, but when he moved forward closer to Como’s box he ran out of ideas and usually lost the ball. He and Modric do the same thing for Milan.
Leao and Nkunku were awful.
On a side note, great finish by Jens Peter Hauge vs Inter. All 3 Italian teams in UCL are on the verge of being knocked out.
He didn’t run out of ideas when he got to Como’s box, no one was making any runs for him to play the ball into. Hard to do anything when your teammates are standing around like Leao does every game.

I completely disagree with you on Jashari, Ricci is the one that should not play or slowly build up. He got all the chances to show, plus some more and still needs time. Jashari considering how much he has played has instantly justified the price tag. If you understand football, with injury and lack of play Jashari what he showed last night is an under performance, so he will only get better. He and Modric need to play together so Jashari is able to replace him in a year or two. As much as I love Modric, Jashari is our future

I know you don’t like Leao, but that was a fantastic goal, and clearly the man of the match, mistake or no mistake, the keeping had to rush out, may be not as much, in my opinion its the right thing to do.
Allegri set up the team wrong in my opinion. They were defending and relying on counter attack against a weak Como team that created nothing besides scoring from Mike’s mistake.
Leao is lazy AF – yes he scored but he also did nothing to help the team until then – should have never started the game, he should actually never start, Milan plays better without him. Seeing 40 year old Modric killing himself out there and then Leao just walking uninterested is a crime.
On a positive side, Jashari is starting to show how good he really is. Don’t forget he just came back from serious and long injury, I think he will be great once he is back to 100%.

No, it wasn’t. The longer Inter are in Europe, the better our chances of winning the scudetto. They have the best team in the league, by miles. If they go out against Bodo, they’ll win Serie A with ease.

Amen!!! Allegri and his scared little girl tactics yesterday already sealed Inter’s scudetto. At least them getting knocked out by the Norwegians would give us some satisfaction for losing the scudetto race miserably.
Taking this away from Inter unfortunately has always been a difficult task. They are just better and WAY deeper in most positions. So blaming Allegri for that doesn’t really help. Allegri was given a short roster and a banged-up offense, and a poorly constructed squad, while Inter has the likes of Lautaro, Thuram and Esposito upfront and are a much more balanced squad. Have you seen how many goals they’ve scored?
The reason for that is smarter management, better scouting, better and much longer work by their athletic direction, good athletic investment, better medical department and trainers, more political clout with the Federation and the Refereeing Association, and a stable core of players working together for years. That’s NOT Allegri’s fault.
With a much smaller and shallower roster and a banged up attacking department, Allegri is doing better than Napoli and Roma, and is 7 points ahead of Juve in 5th place, which is what is essential for the UCL. With the shortest roster of Serie A, and heavily injured to boot, he’s doing better than all other 18 clubs and is only doing less well than the much more powerful Inter (whom he beat when he faced them).
Yes, I list all hope that rooting for Inter to keep going in the UCL will keep them distracted and will make us win the Scudetto. They are just too deep and can play in 3 competitions without suffering too much wear and tear. So yes, at this point I’m switching to hoping that the Norwegians will knock them out. That will be the freaking 7th title in a row that they fail to win, despite their powerful squad, so at least this brings me some satisfaction.

I won’t say it is necessarily an obsession to draw but more of a fall back plan. He doesn’t have good attacking plans when he’s down… perhaps Landucci does but certainly not him.

Mister crashing out as usual but at least get the opponent’s DT sent off with you and not an assistant. Jashari is the best passer in the team and should start over Fofana. More balanced this match up compared to the first game. No one showed any teeth and we played not to lose, then you have the captain, yeah that was gut punch. I was hoping to see the 433 at some point but perhaps another day. We are still over the target from the start of the season but it’s a bit bitter knowing our chances at the Scudetto is nearly gone.
On the bright side, we never lose with Landucci in charge.

He’s not only embarrassing in the way he trains and sets the team out but also this is like his third red of the season.
The game and the classification table situation
We should have won this one. We actually played better than when we beat them 3-1. However, a grave mistake by our otherwise excellent goalkeeper doomed us to a draw, plus, other plays that prevented what would have been a deserved victory, were a formidable defense by their goalie on a great shot by Tomori; Fofana as usual not hitting his heading attempt on target (should have scored, there!), and Rafa hitting the crossbar although he was offside anyway. Still, we fought hard, and did come from behind to equalize, increasing the undefeated streak to 24 games. However, this also came as the end of our game-in-hand advantage, while earning only one point and dropping two, effectively increasing our distance to Inter now to solid 7 points instead of the theoretical 5 points, had we converted said game-in-hand. Our advantage over Inter in terms of their divided attention due to their Champions League commitments is at risk of going out in smoke because they lost the first leg of their round of 32 playoff, 1-3; also it seems like we won’t have an advantage over Juve there, given that the latter also lost in the Champions League 2-5 (and Atalanta lost 0-2). So, while our boys did relatively well today against a good team while missing a very essential player (Rabiot), the fight for the Scudetto is now really turning into a fairly impossible task, although we remain on target to at least make top 4 and to qualify for next season’s Champions League. It needs to also be understood that any idea that Italy will conquer a fifth Champions League spot this season is completely gone, after all three remaining teams got badly beaten, and we are in fifth place in the coeficients, behind England, Portugal, Germany, and Spain. So, we should better remain in the top four because there will be no top five.
The Players
Goalkeeper
Maignan – Well, we can’t be too mad at him because in the first Como-Milan game he saved our skin and was in great part responsible for that victory. Also, he made at least two good saves tonight. But his grave error gifting a goal to Nico Paz effectively made us drop two points, so his score needs to reflect that. 4.
Center Backs
Tomori – Good game despite some errors. Superb shot that in all circumstances should have been a score except for Como’s goalkeeper’s extraordinary save. Other good defensive actions and generally supporting well the offense, but also some defensive mistakes but fortunately they were of no consequence. 6.5.
De Winter – Good game, solid, well positioned, error-free; was our best defender. 7.
Pavlovic – Did well and brought some danger to Como’s defense but unfortunately got injured and had to be subbed out. Let’s hope it’s not serious. 6.5
(It should be highlighted that if not for Maignan’s error, this would have been a clean sheet, with our defenders effectively cancelling Como’s very good offense, which made our goalkeeper be under much less pressure than in our previous game against them, so the three center backs did well despite some errors which were mostly committed by Tomori).
Wing Backs
Athekame – He is now clearly and fully a valuable contributor to Milan but this time he was less successful than he’s been in supporting the offense, except for the very good cross to Tomori that should have been a score if not for Butez. For this, he earns more than a pass. 6.5
Bartesaghi – Decent game, but not one of his best. He was a bit of mixed picture with some good duel wins but some lost balls; some decent support for the offense but also some inaccurate crosses. Gets a pass. 6.
In summary, the two wing backs were decent but not brilliant like both can be capable of being; Athekame a bit better giving his quasi-assist.
Midfielders
Modric – Very good game, mostly helping a lot with the task of defensive midfielder who shields the defense. Precise in most passes and mobile across the pitch. 7.
Jashari – Also a bit of a mixed picture. The negative was a number of lost balls and imprecise passes, which are likely to be due to the lack of minutes (Allegri has been giving more opportunities to Ricci than to Jashari). Still, tried hard, clocking the longest distance covered in kilometers, and of course his score goes up significantly for having provided the assist that resulted in our only goal. 7.
Ricci – Not a game as good as last game. He had no assist so this already makes his score lower than Jashari’s, and could have done more, offensively. I still give him a pass for some rarer but still good moments. 6.
The midfielders were better than average collectively in defensive terms but didn’t link that efficiently with the offense.
Forwards
Nkunku – He tried to move a lot and tried to participate but he produced no real danger to the opponent’s goalkeeper, which is what he needs to be doing, so slightly below a pass. 5.5
Leão – It is clear that he still isn’t at 100% as his bursts of speed continue to be absent, but he did look a bit more energized than in his last showings, and of course, having produced a golazo that rescued one point for us and extended the undefeated streak, and in the absence of anybody doing more for the final result, he gets a 7.5 and MOTM. I know that he didn’t overall play like a MOTM but I’m just being pragmatic here: we would have lost without his goal, so given nobody being extremely brilliant (like Rabiot was in the first Como-Milan game), I have to give the honor to Rafa.
Substitutes
Gabbia – played only one half but he was part of the successful effort to cancel Como’s offense, so, 6.5 as well.
Fofana – did recover some balls and was generally positive but oh man, you have to score when you have the winner delivered to your head against a mostly empty goal, instead of sending it too high. For his 1,000th miss off-target, effectively preventing us from earning all three points, I have to deduct a full point. 5.
Saelemaekers – Good to see him back. Tried hard to contribute but coming from injury, was a bit imprecise; but still dynamic as usual. Gets a pass. 6.
Füllkrug – Not very visible. No big mistakes like last time but nothing shining either, and we needed him more present, but in part it was because he barely got the ball and Como did feel the pressure that they could have lost his game and they were more defensive in second half; still, the German was below a pass. 5.5
Pulisic – He got a 13-minute cameo and didn’t receive the ball that much; did try to shake things around but Como defended energetically and didn’t leave him a lot of space. Gets a pass if we think that he didn’t really do more than Füllkrug but had fewer mintues to try and is coming back from injury so. 6.
The coach
Mister Allegri – Managed to get himself red-carded again, LOL. I guess his lineup was what was possible and some of his game preparation must have been good given that we limited Como better than last time and should have won if not for Maignan’s uncharacteristic mistake. Yes, the offense was unproductive except for one genial assist by Jashari and genial goal by Rafa, but again, this is hardly Allegri’s fault because our forwards have been consistently injured and that’s a really banged-up department that would be likely to be performing better if everybody were at 100% of fitness. This was not a draw that came out of the coach being too conservative. The team actually fought hard the entire 90 minutes and never parked the bus. So I give the Mister a bit more than a pass. 6.5

Leão has been playing injured, the whole season. Still, he has as many goal contributions as Pulisic. The people who hate each player say that Leao is Lazy and Pulisic is lucky. They won’t ever credit them for their goal contributions. Without the goal contributions of these 2 players we’d be in 10th place. It’s as simple as that.
Leao had to save a point because Leao was ineffective at nearly every other point in the

Leao does save Milan points but no way was he MOTM today. Jashari played brilliantly throughout the game and got the assist with great vision. Leao played horrible(his injury is limiting him in a big way) outside of the good goal.

I believe your general assessment of the midfield is mistaken this time.
They were ineffective offensively only because there was no effective movement from our attackers. There was no hold up or link up from our attackers.
Midfielder turns to pass and nobody is upfield.
I am sorry but Leao was a step back from last game. He was back to pitch walking and poor pressing. Nkunku also regressed.
All that means is out mid could only bass sideways.
Fullkrug and Pulisic on and suddenly we are able to move vertically.
Allegri set us up the same as he has been and expected a different result. It’s a bummer at this point.
We’re missing a Reijnders… That boy could really drive us vertically. We don’t have the players with technique in tight spaces and the creativity. So every time we play a low block, we struggle.
I usually agree with your ratings, but i have to agree with the others on Leao. He scored and that is it, i was wondering how he didn’t fumble it in the first place. I saw a snippet of a podcast Fulham’s Alex Iwobi was on. He said footballers (MFDs & FWDs most especially) these days have clocked it that you don’t need to play very well anymore. Just get a goal (for FWDs) or an assist (for MFDs) and people won’t care if you were terrible all game. So if he was having a absolutely sh!t game, he’d be looking to just try to get a goal or an assist.

Look at the replay. Como-defender pushed Fofana at the right moment which meant there was no chance of heading the ball correctly from that position/angle. It was great defending.
While you may be right because I didn’t watch the replays, I rated him based on what I thought that I saw during the live play, from a distance; I will say that generally, a better finisher could have jumped higher and could have beaten the defender, for an on-target header and a score. When Athekame sent one his great crosses to someone else in previous game, that person headed it in. Not Fofana, of course!
Fofana is arguably the worst finisher in all of Serie A. He is capable of placing the ball EVERYWHERE – the stands, the woodwork, right at the goalkeeper, too high, too wide left, too wide right… EXCEPT into the net. He tries numerous times but gets it right like once every 100 attempts (not that I counted; it’s a figure of speech). This means that (again, metaphorically) 99 promising attacks get cancelled because Fofana tried again and missed.
Sometimes when he is subbed out, our attack improves not even because the substitute does better, but simply because we stop wasting attacking plays so that the offensive volume goes up.
Look, Fofana can be a helpful player, especially when he is more vertical (which he can be), recovers balls (he does lose lots of them but does recover lots, too), and passes well which even results in assists for a score, sometimes very well done – and when he does that, I acknowledge him in my ratings. But when he tries to score himself, it’s almost GUARANTEED that it is a miss.
That young man and the net are not in a loving relationship. I do get very frustrated when he misses again and again, in a sense robbing us of points.
Paradoxically, statistically speaking, we tend to do better in certain aspects, in games in which he plays. That is likely to be due to some of his good defensive work recovering balls, and some of his relatively rare, but good forward passes. However we also tend to do worse in clinical finishing and accurate finishing of attacking plays.
This means that Fofana is a mixed bag. I always believed that he could be actually a very helpful player, if he repeated ten times in his head “I shall not attempt to score myself; I shall not attempt to score myself; I shall pass the ball to companions who are better finishers than I am.” Think of what we could have done if Fofana just carried the ball forward, and passed it to someone else, instead of shooting and sending the ball into the stands!
I used to also look forward to your ratings, but seeing leao get a 7.5 plus MOTM, I almost laughed my butt off…

With Leao on the pitch I’ve found a very clear pattern of 1-0, 1-1 scorelines which indicates a restrictive attacking output whenever he’s on the pitch…
He makes the attack predictable and infrequent, he also makes good crossers look stupid…

Forwards need to score goals. Who else did, yesterday? You’re taking my words out of context because I did say that he didn’t play as a MOTM but in the absence of anybody else who was brilliant, I had to give it to him because without his goal we’d have lost. What if at season end we make the top 4 but with a 1-point margin? Would you then agree that he was instrumental? Not to forget, that’s not the first time he rescues one point or three points from what otherwise would have been zero points. Subtract Rafa’s several goal contributions this season while obviously (as confirmed numerous times by Allegri himself but Allegri can’t rest him properly given our short roster and other injuries) playing through injury, and look again at the position we’d be in the table. We’d simply not make the UCL again. People are so ungrateful towards Rafa, it’s uncanny.
This said, rethinking the game, the only other player who could have a shot at MOTM was Jashari but even if ultimately I granted it to Rafa because he was the one who scored, I did acknowledge Jashari’s contribution and rated him only 0.5 below Rafa.
What is uncanny is that a player such as Messi would often be static and disappear for 89 minutes and then suddenly would play for 1 minute and score (not that Rafa is as good as Messi but I’m making a point) and his club fan base never screamed that he was lazy or wanted him sold. The animosity towards Rafa is unbelievable and unworthy of having Milan’s best interest at heart.
Did you know that Rafa is one of ONLY FOUR players in AC Milan’s long and prestigious history since, yes, 1899, to have simultaneously scored more than 50 goals together with more than 20 assists? The other three are Kaká, Seedorf and Rivera. Nice company, huh? And that’s the lazy player people want sold!!!
I couldn’t care less if Rafa is a traffic cone for 89 minutes as long as he scores in that other minute. Oh great, this one and that one played better… but we had only one goal and Rafa scored yesterday while nobody else did, which last I checked, is how the sport assigns draws and victories. Goals. Not futile possession, not non-assist passes. What counts is a goal participation, goal or assist.

I’m fine with Leao getting a good rating because of the nice chipped goal but like you said he was a traffic cone the rest of the game. The problem is calling him MOTM when Jashari played a great game THROUGHOUT and without his perfect pass Leao doesn’t get the chance to chip the goal keeper. Leao deserves credit for being decisive there but it can also be argued that he could have given Milan all 3 points as he missed a point blank header off the post. Yes I know he was offside but no one knew that until after the play.
Yes, arguably Jashari could have received my MOTM distinction; I said that. Still, it was Rafa who scored the Golazo. Sure, getting the ball well-passed for an assist is important but then you need to get it into the net, or else the pass accomplishes nothing. And yes, that was absolutely a Golazo, as acknowledged even by the (usually anti-Milan) Italian print media.

I liked Fullkrug coming on and amping up our physicality which is one thing missing when Rabiot is out. Pulisic was great off the ball, good movement, but didn’t make anything happen.

Even as a Leao fanboy he is so frustrating nowdays but his G+A literally carries him that people from afar think he is doing alright but in reality its the complete opposite (laziness). But i dont blame him too harshly as Allegri wants to play with 2 forwards instead of using wingers so he has to adapt to a role he isn’t used to playing and on top of that Injury problems. 1. I do not remember Mike ever making a mistake with his feet like that…ever.

3. I have been critical of Modric…not today. This game was so suited for him. With Como playing such a high line.
4. I know Allegri’s hands have been tied by injuries but I have seen enough of the NNkunku Laeo pairing.
5. Saelamaekers….come on dude. Started a fight with a coach, picked up a yellow, and came close to another. Not what Milan was looking for.

Of course he’s not recovering when he’s put on the starting-11 each week instead of where he belongs: on the sidelines recovering. It’s only a matter of time when his fitness issues turn into a season-ending-injury. Absolutely horrible handling of his fitness issues.

Without the Bastoni-Kalulu incident he would have been sent off 100%. The ref was too scared to duplicate the horrible mistake from last weekend and decided to play it safe.

Sureley Fulkrug’s toe is fine by now, but even with a broken toe, the German would have been more efficient with Nkunku than having Leao there. Would have thrown on Leao and puli at 60-70mns in a 433 to try and get a result.
Jashari is growing and visibly improving game by game. With the Duke back, I’d alternate between Jashari and Ricci for the final spot rather than Fofana.
Forgettable mistake by Mike today, but please keep in mind that Mike will ALWAYS earn us more points than he’ll cost us.
1-1 is a fair result. Nevermind theScudetto – that was never a tangible objective. It was just a conversation piece while Inter was close. This is a recalibration season for Milan regardless of what Cardinale and Furlani are planning.

He’s not even 70% fit. If Fullkrug didn’t have a broken toe, he’d be starting I’d think. Having Nkunku be the only fit striker is the worst possible outcome since he’s least suited to play on his own up top. At this point, we should try Rabiot up there instead of playing partially fit strikers.
Hate to be that guy that bash on Leao but he really does not want to be out there to begin with, he is never fit because he is lazy. He have been here for 7 years and I genuinely have never seen him give 100%.

Yes, I’ve written that at this point I don’t blame Leao. He is injured and doesn’t seem fit. I am tired of people looking at a really good 15 seconds of play from him and then giving him a pass. What would the team look like if he was able to give a reasonable amount of effort throughout the game- making runs, turning on the defense when he gets the ball in space, etc. Also, if Pulisic is only fit for 10 mins, why put him on the bench? It’s not like Allegri is going to ‘go for it’. Is he now a supersub? If you want to tighten done the defense put on another defender or midfielder in. I’ve got more suspicions about Pulisic leaving, the new one being the tax issues in Italy. If he really wanted to stay he would be buying a small condo to avoid the excess tax.
The coach sees his player every day we see them for 90 minutes, yes our front two were hard to watch for the first 70 minutes, but the most reliable player is the most physically available player thats why Nkunku starts, yes things will change with players coming back from injuries.

He is playing because Allegri don’t get too many opportunity to score with his style, so he needed a reliable attacker that won’t miss that opportunity when it presents itself
All I want to ask here is what has happened to leao? Like goal aside, what has happened to him? I get that the formation change and his role has changed I get that, but like his explosive speed is gone. He looks like the slowest person on the field, he can’t beat his man and he just doesn’t look right.

Quick question? Will we continue with Allegri when we get to the champions league. Because this kind of football might be working in Serie A but in UEFA that’s a different story.

True. But this season, Allegri is clearly doing what he was hired to do. We have 24 unbeaten games in a row (a 70-year record), and 16 points more than at this point last season. We are second, 7 points clear of the fifth-placed team, so, on target for the UCL.
Now let’s compare this to last season. We had two coaches that picked fights with our own players more than with our opponents. We had a disciplinary mess, with players acting out and irritated at the coaches, therefore with very low motivation. We finished 8th, out even of the Conference League, and out of direct qualification for Coppa, a result that reminds us of the banter years. We leaked goals like a sieve, with our defense having more holes than a Swiss cheese. We had a very numerous roster but our coaches couldn’t make anything out of some decent players and couldn’t manage players’ narcissisism. Star players like Maignan were irritated and asking out. Worthy players from other clubs that were a target for signing with Milan, refused to come (like Hojlund).
Comes Allegri. Restores order. Pushes everybody to be serious. No disciplinary issues happen. Our defense, from being a disaster, achieves top 3 in the league in having the most clean sheets. Earns more points than in three other occasions when we had a similar number of points by this point, and in all three other of those occasions, we ended up winning the Scudetto. From 8th place, we upgrade to 2nd. He convinces Mike to stay, and we are doing better than Conte and the team Hojlund despised us for. He convinces Rabiot to join (who has been our most instrumental player, this season). And he does that with a VERY short roster, the shortest one of the entire Serie A, and on top of it, the roster is handicapped by a series of injuries and some suspensions.
That is nothing short of a MIRACLE achieved in half a season (usually a new coach needs some time to show results; Allegri has increased our possibilities immediately).
Yes, Allegri’s football is not pleasing to the eyes, but it is efficient in terms of points earned despite his tendency to draw more often than win. I’d rather have that and return to the UCL, than play beautiful football and finish 8th.
The ONLY big problem with our current Serie A season, is that Inter are doing even better, with one of the highest total of points in history by this point of the season! But we can’t control what they do. The one time that it was under our control, when we played against them in Serie A, we beat them; we couldn’t do more to them, than that. We can’t force other teams to take points from Inter. Without Inter being in the top form they’ve been showing (at least as far as Serie A is concerned, notwithstanding their flop against Bodo/Glimt yesterday), we’d be comfortably winning the Scudetto. But again, that’s not under Allegri’s control. He can only fix Milan; he can’t unfix Inter.
OK, so, the predictable end of this season, if things remain relatively stable, is that Inter will unfortunately win the Scudetto, but we will finish in the top 4 and make the Champions League.
THAT is what Allegri was hired to do. To float the sinking ship and take us back to the UCL. Not necessarily to win the Scudetto in his first season back with us, after inheriting such a full-blown mess from the two Portuguese coaching disasters.
Not making the UCL again would certainly bring back the banter years. Players like Maignan and Pulisic would leave. There would be no money to hire worthy replacements.
Yes, next season will be a problem if he stays, in terms of the UCL, because we can’t go far in it by just drawing games, like you said.
But we needed what he is doing. It’s a recovery year, and to be more ambitious, we do need to recover first, and Allegri is clearly accomplishing it.
People should give him more credit. Me, I’m thankful to Allegri for taking us back to the UCL (likely) and stopping our downward spiral.
I disagree about the coaches last year picking fights. At least with Leão and Theo, they seemed to be problems. Any attempt at discipline failed. Allegri has learned at least with Leão, you need to pump him up all the time. It was good to get rid of his partner, Theo.
Conceição almost came to public blows against Calabria in front of all the TV cameras. That’s the ultimate lack of professionalism. Fonseca repeatedly threw the players under the bus in press conferences, to hide his own failures. No wonder the players lost respect for both and the disciplinary issues ballooned. I’m not saying the players weren’t ALSO at fault but it is undeniable that the coaches weren’t at fault, too. None of this happens under Allegri, whom the players respect, and vice-versa; Allegri never blames his players, and always supports them. He antagonizes the opponents like Fabregas; not his own players.

Things happen in context. The players shouldn’t have been undisciplined, but that happened in the context of coaches who had terrible relationships with their own players. It’s not a justification for the players who were also unprofessional but it’s a way to better understand the context.

I love how Jash is coming into his own. Positive signs from him…Barti needs to be more incisive, try things and build his confidence. He spent more times passing backwards…he is young and taking chances might aid his growth. Better performance from the team this time around then the last time they literary swept the floor with us possession wise. Wish we could have sustained the momentum after we equalized…
It seems to me that Saelemaekers adds negativity to the team. I noticed that every time he plays, he provokes his teammate with his simulation and he definitely adds rage to the management team. I believe Allegri received a red card due to his unnecessary acts in the field and pretending that he is targeted by opponents for his great performance in the pitch.
Fabregas pulled him back in an actual game situation before that Baturina chance where he hit the side net (the referee spared him a second yellow later on, but he didn’t see this first act and it could have lead to a goal that I don’t believe VAR would have been able to review). What do you expect him and Allegri to do? It was a troll move from a visibly bitter coach who thinks he is the new Guardiola.

Jashari is a generational talent. Allegri needs to play him alongside Modric and let Rabiot room around in a more advanced position. Jashari is also very good in ball recovery, there is no reason to play Fofana or Ricci ahead of him.

Man i still think alergi gets our attack combinations so wrong. i would have started RLC and Nkunku then bring on leao as an impact player changing formation to 433 when attacking.
alegri still does not know which two strikers combine best upfront. Thats why we are able to draw games but not win them. the entire backline and midfield is decent enough to hold games but the people entrusted at finishing of moves are the problem.
Leao should just play in his prefered position and the following combos will work best.

RLC x Nkunku
they produce more output playing together.
this idea of playing to natural wingers as strikers and expecting them to shine when its really practically not working just does not make any sense.
As long as we remain realistic, 1-1 to a dynamic side like Como, with so many players missing from an already limited “championship only” roaster isn’t that bad, especially after trailing. Allegri had obviously prepared one of his defensive masterpieces, with midfielders, wing-backs and CBs closing in spaces really fast. Como didn’t even have a shot off target before Mike’s mistake. Then things changed obviously and we had to become the aggressive team.
Jashari is definitely MOM. Sure, he needs to work on his short passing in the final third, but he is a baller when it comes to precise long balls. His defensive work should also be pointed out, the guy covered a lot of ground. Second best – maybe De Winter or even Tomori – he was hasty at times, but their keeper denied him a great goal and he himself prevented one after Mike refused yet again to leave the goalline after Paz’s dangerous set piece cross. Luka was great as always, this time having to do more dirty work than usual.
Leao… oh, boy, he did score a great goal, but is it really enough to erase a performance that was deserving of 5/10 at best? I get it, he still carries a physical issue, but if Allegri puts him in the starting lineup, that means the staff has assured him the guy can go there and perform at the very least some basic tasks that his talent could eventually turn into positives. Yet I didn’t see that, I saw him barely walking, let alone running. He missed a good chance to find Barte on the wing just so he could backpass it safely. Not good enough, brother. Pulisic is argubaly in the same weird situation injury-wise, but you can see even in these 10 minutes he is much more mobile.
As for the other disappointments (aside from Mike, which is an obvious one, but he deserves to be forgiven more than anyone), there’s Ricci who simply wasn’t in the game despite some decent of the ball movements, helping Athekame and Tomori. Then there’s Nkunku – seems like he is always between 5/10 and 7.5/10, depending on how events of the game will allow him to be actual part of it. It didn’t happen last night. Him and Leao are simply not a good fit. Nkunku himself benefits from a hard working partner like RLC or Fullkrug. Also, bad entrance from Alexis, should haven calmed down after the Fabregas incident, instead he made a risky challenge and failed at least three potentially promising attacks (then again, he provided a rather good cross for Fofana who is literally incapable of scoring, like, ever).
Off to the next one, we shouldn’t take top 4 for granted. Inter simply wouldn’t allow us anything else this season, even if non-football antics are needed, as recently witnessed.

Which reminded me of the fans at the stadium… They started to get annoyed by Leao’s constant backpassing. (Rightly so). In the 1st half every single action he did was passing the ball backwards and the crowd started to react.

If he scores only once, they cry he didn’t score more or play defense. I also don’t understand the Tomori hate, he saved a goal with a last minute intervention, had a shot on goal and is competent carrying the ball forward.
