AC Milan players before Lecce clash

AC Milan bounced back with a dominant performance against Lecce on Sunday evening, finding the back of the net three times. Below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

After the mid-week defeat to Benfica and the subsequent criticism, Ruben Amorim and his men were eager to clinch all three points tonight. Fortunately, thanks to the individual brilliance of several players, they got the job done.

Short Version

🥇 Pulisic (7.5 – MOTM): First start of the season, first goal of the season! That first touch was just brilliant and you can’t have any complaints about the finish either. He continued to be a source of inspiration after that, as shown on the second goal with a fantastic flick to Rabiot (not the assist, but it opened up the entire move).

👎 Loftus-Cheek (5.5): Too harsh? Maybe, but I’m basing it off his run down the right-hand flank which amounted to nothing, despite it being a good chance, and when he was way too slow on the ball in the middle. An easy pass would have opened up a lot, but instead Lecce came close to a goal.

👔 Amorim (6.5): He made the right decisions for the starting eleven (yes, even the Estupinan choice), and the tactics worked well. Milan never gave up on trying to create and as Lecce constantly had to chase the ball, they were very tired in the second half. Bringing on Moreira then with his pace was smart.

Starting XI

Maignan (6.5): He wasn’t tested all that much in the first half, but he got to make a few good saves in the second half. One was really good to deny Pierotti, even if the flag then went up for offside. He also deserves a mention for the long ball to Ramos before the third goal.

Gila (6.5): It was nice to see him back in the starting eleven and he made a difference. On top of the usual solid defending, we saw quite a few overlapping runs from him tonight, and he could have got the ball from his teammates more. In the build-up, he was also very good on the ball.

De Winter (6.5): Incredibly solid from the Belgian. He always did just about enough to put Stulic off balance, without giving away the foul, and he did really well on the ball even in tight situations. Lecce weren’t great, mind you, but still a performance worthy of praise.

Pavlovic (6.5): That pass for Pulisic’s goal was wonderful, even if the No.11 then did most of the work. Overall, I think the Serbian was solid at the back and he had a few moments while going forward too. However, he missed a pretty good chance after a nice run, and if it hadn’t been for that I perhaps would have given him a 7.

Chukwueze (6): It certainly wasn’t a bad display from him, with some nice moments in attack, but it was very average all things considered. In fairness to him, he did open up a lot of space for his teammates by keeping his position out wide.

Modric (7): That’s one way to respond to critics. He looked incredibly calm from the get-go and showed very early on that he would help out in both phases of the game. He even won some aerial duels! His main contribution was the passing though, often finding the perfect position and distributing the ball quickly.

Rabiot (7): Runs forward is what he does so well and we got to see that on the ball. He almost feels unstoppable at times with that pace and strength. Just like Modric, he also helps out a lot in both phases, including sacrificing pressing when needed.

Estupinan (6): He wasted a couple of good chances to find the back of the net, but if you look past that, I actually don’t think he was bad. In fact, he often found the right positions and combined well with the players on the left. He also had a crucial clearance in the second half, preventing Lecce from getting a tap-in.

Pulisic (7.5 – MOTM): First start of the season, first goal of the season! That first touch was just brilliant and you can’t have any complaints about the finish either. He continued to be a source of inspiration after that, as shown on the second goal with a fantastic flick to Rabiot (not the assist, but it opened up the entire move).

Saelemaekers (6.5): He was lively and won a lot of balls back, not to mention that we got to see several of his trademark turns. However, although this may be slightly harsh on him, I feel he could have been a lot better in the final third and with the final pass. I counted 2-3 good chances wasted because of his poor end product.

Ramos (7): We all wanted to see a goal from tonight, I know, but I would say we got the next-best thing. Not only was it a much better performance in terms of getting involved in the play, but he also really made sure to hammer that home with two assists. Very encouraging, in my opinion.

Substitutes

Loftus-Cheek (5.5): Too harsh? Maybe, but I’m basing it off his run down the right-hand flank which amounted to nothing, despite it being a good chance, and when he was way too slow on the ball in the middle. An easy pass would have opened up a lot, but instead Lecce came close to a goal.

Moreira (7): I went back and forth between a 6.5 and a 7 here, but ultimately settled for the latter just because the goal was so well-taken. Not only did he get to the penalty box with a great run, but then he had the composure to shift it onto his right as well.

Musah (6): We got to see some ‘Musah runs’, which are always enjoyable when they work. Not much more to say aside from that, though.

Bartesaghi (N/A): I didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Camarda (N/A): I didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Manager

Amorim (6.5): He made the right decisions for the starting eleven (yes, even the Estupinan choice), and the tactics worked well. Milan never gave up on trying to create and as Lecce constantly had to chase the ball, they were very tired in the second half. Bringing on Moreira then with his pace was smart.

  1. Good win, good setup, good game.

A bit of concern raised by Amori recently about players not running behind the opponents defense, in this match alone, Estupinia made about five runs and didn’t get the ball, same with Moriera last match he didn’t get the ball too, this lack of finding the running man is frustrating for the players making these runs. I expect that it be fixed soon.

    RCL… Lol

    Forza Milan

    1. great observation. Estupinan made numerous great runs where the pass either wasn’t good enough or just didn’t come when it should have.

He had one of his best Milan performances tonight. Great to see him silence his critics and the stadium applaud him as he came off. His rating should be higher for this game

    2. Estupinan actually played the perfect role today. He can make those runs to pull the defense out while hopefully not getting the ball since he just doesn’t have the touch to finish. Dummy runs can be very useful to open up the back line and he used his speed well to make those runs.

      1. Was looking for this comment. People saw him, they knew it will be an 80% chance for totally wasted attack. On the other hand he draws some of defense with him. He did more or less well because he had almost no defensive duties. Still a third choice for me in the current squad.

        1. I wouldn’t want him as a primary defender ever but I was surprised at how well he actually timed the runs and how dangerous (if he had more skill) they would have been. As someone else said, I’m more worried that they never seemed to look at those runs and hope they can recognize them much more quickly if any skill players are making them.

    3. 100% pravda! Tiež som mal nervy,keď to napríklad Salad v druhom polčase zastavil ,keď tam Estup bežal od Benátok ako šialený a pritom mu to mohol krásne posunúť!

  2. Pulisic is the straw that stirs the offensive drink. They are a dangerous team when he’s on the field.

Estupinan had a decent game. No major errors.

Gorgeous 2nd goal – Pulisic back heel, Rabiot – Ramos give and go, Rabiot fakes shooting left. BAM.

Modric solid – nice to see.

Moreira also needs to be on the field. Wow.

Salemaekers a turnover machine – 5.5. Poor first touch, slows every attack down. Not sure why?

Solid back 4 performance – though not particularly threatened. Gila and Pavlo went forward well.

Someone told RLC that he had to hustle on each play. No half speed. You could see it today.

    1. Salad replaced Cisse, and was far more involved in the offense than Cisse, who was flat out stopping the offense by holding on to the ball too long.
Salad did lose the ball a number of times, but he also worked hard to get it back, something Cisse didn’t do.
His overall offensive end product wasn’t great but he kept Milan aggressive and on the offensive.
So, he was more of a churn machine.
      I’d give him a 6.

      1. Saleamakers dribbles TOO MUCH. I’ve never seen a player so love with own dribbling. Yes, he makes some good dribbles and always runs hard but the final pass or shot is almost always wrong and he holds the ball too long all the time. Other than that he’s great.

        1. Yep.. sometimes in the final 3rd, His brain switches to what is the Hardest option i can make because if it comes off, it will look so cooooooollll.. 🤩🤩🤩🤩

        2. He usually finds the pass though where pulisic holds on too long, we end up going too deep, offside and he checks back and loses the ball or the moments lost. Saleamakers is a joy to watch

      2. I’m not ready to agree yet because Pulisic and Cisse have not had a couple games together. .

Pulisic game is making clever runs and quick close control. Cisse does stop the ball but he holds it well. If Pulisic is making one of those runs and Rabiot is coming late then suddenly the kids has to enviable options other than shooting.

I need to see if Cisse’s level rises when he has something other than RLC to look for.

Further, no stick for Musah, but he is not Rabiot and still doesn’t have composure in front of goal. Cisse hasn’t had that dude in midfield.

(I personally think Musah + Rabiot is an interesting combo for this reason. Musah runs for Modric because Modric is older/slower these days. He could cover for Rabiot freeing him to be unusually goal dangerous in much the same way.)

    1. “Starting Pulisic was a good idea who would thought?”

I’m sure Olumighty might make this a very interesting discussion though… 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂😂

  3. The encouraging thing is that Amorim is showing the ability to handle the smaller teams and a willingness to kill games off by staying aggressive with a lead.

That is what sunk Allegri. Top 4 comes from beating the teams you’re supposed to beat.

    1. Agree – we seem to have reversed our play from last season – now we’re okay against the cr@p teams and bad against good ones…

      1. I was thinking exactly the same thing as I watched the game! Thankfully, there are more crap teams than good teams, so if we keep on like this and figure out how to take some points from the big teams, we’ll be playing top 4 ball.

    2. This is exactly right. Amorim is ok playing end to end with minnows, because the more goals there are the more likely the majority will be ours. The irony is that we traded a pretty successful Pioli (2nd in the table in final season) who kept losing to Inter for not very successful coaches who could beat Inter and not finish top 4.

I hope we give Amorim a little more patience. First, get close to the top, to where you qualify for Champion’s every year, then you will get a little luck and win another Scudetto.

As far as individual performances, Puli really makes the offense tick. It’s no coincidence that the first Puli start resulted in first time Milan gets a first half goal. And then second goal was what we dream of – so fluid, so pretty, and a real grade A opportunity converted based on the combination of Puli – Rabiot – Ramos.

I think Ramos has been better than people think. He does a lot of things right. I still find it odd that he keeps playing full 90. He runs A LOT for a striker. That’s great, but that means he starts to get tired and should come out sometimes. Chuk got subbed about 5-10 minutes late as usual.

      1. My issue with Ramos is that he sometimes plays like a 10 when he should be a 9. I saw him a lot of times behind Pulisic and Salemakers, when it should have been the other way around.

        1. It’s a tactical approach to draw out defense which man marks. So the space can open up for incisive runs. And it works

  4. A few thoughts
    1. Amorim needed that, Pulisic needed that, San Siro needed that, we all needed that.
    2. How many players in Serie A can score the goal that Pulisic scored today? Easily the MOTM. He’s so dangerous
    3. The backiline was dominant. Lecce presented no problems because the back line took all the bite out of Lecce’s game.
    4. I really liked Rabiot’s whole goal, the back heal from Pulisic, the pass from Ramos and the power in the shot from Rabiot

    A few so-so takes…which in a 3-0 game maybe I should keep to myself
    5. Saelemaekers really works his ass off but plays like a high school kid who is used to taking the ball coast to coast. Watch Rabiot, watch Pulisic, Watch Ramos..the one touch is often the play that opens the game up. Saelemaekers had a few against Venezia but he needs to dribble less and one touch more
    6. I agree Modric was tidy and looked much more lively. But a deep seated playmaker. Needs to make plays that score goals. I want to see more line splitting passes from him.
    7. It is becoming comical how useless Chuk’s right foot is. Somehow he makes it work though.

    8. Winning like this feels great! Forza Milan!

  5. please let Alexis play his natural role… he kept going to the flank anyway… like the weird masochistic tendencies are insane by Amorim.

great experiments: Cisse, Chukwueze, Musah, DeWinter

confused till this day: Alexis as CAM, Estupido as anything but the water boy

learnt from his past mistakes: RLC (10-15 minutes max per game until winter transfer window), Terracciano (should never be played)

like bro take the W and move on; why do you want to die on a mountain named Estupinian?!

        1. When I saw that starting line up I thought Alexis would go wide and Pulisic would play cam. We saw what happened to Saelemaekers when he tucked in.

    1. To be fair, Estu played quite well. He made many decent opening run on the left flank that helped opening up spaces. Got an ovation from the home crowd as well.

The more worrying thing is Barte. Not looking like his old self from several matches back. One of the reasons why Ruben prefer Estu recently.

    2. You are confused…Pervis had a good game which included saving a certain goal with some excellent defending. But then again, you thought milan should keep useless Ricci.

  7. First enjoyable Milan game this season from start to finish. Need more of this.
Dominant display vs a team that played hard and very physical.
Pulisic and Saelemaekers behind the striker create problems for the opponent. Both of them move a lot.
Beautiful goals scored. That Pavlovic to Pulisic action and finish was top notch.
The entire action on the 2nd goal was Amorim Ball.
Diego Moreira is having a great start of his life in Italy. 4 games, 3 goals. It was interesting that he played as the lefr sided attacking midfielder while RLC was playing on the right.
I would have liked to see Camarda earlier and Comotto given some minutes.
11 points out of 15 is not that bad, even though it should have been 15 out of 15.

  8. Amorim said fk it let’s just start pinging balls over the top… happy for the win but it was Lecce at home… Any time we’ve played anyone remotely stronger we’ve looked completely clueless so interested to see if that changes anytime soon…

    1. Let’s not forget that last year was the opposite. Over performed in big games (for a while) and looked awful against relegation battlers.

I’d prefer us to have a solid attacking game plan like this. Controlling the ball. And in time we should look better against the big sides.

This has so much more potential than Allegriball did.

      1. Well… Sure, we haven’t won any TOP-4 teams this season yet, but he haven’t lost to direct competitor either. And Juve & Lazio were actually away matches. It’s far from a catastrophic start for this season, eh?

  9. Nice game, nice win, great goal from Pulisic, some selfish play though. I need to see a win against top teams not Lecce or venecia

        1. Bro I like Leão I’ve told you this, I’m just not delusional. I wish he could have stayed like I do Theo but they both felt they were bigger than the team in my opinion. You feel the need to take shoots at Pulisic every match even when he plays well.

    1. Pulisic – 3 games from 6 , 1 G and 1 A this season
      Rafa – 3 games from 6 , 0 G and 0 A this season

Rafa will get his, but you say “selfish play” like your boy Rafa didn’t incessantly dribble until he lost the ball himself.

Worse you are still on about Pulisic. What about 2 assists from Ramos? The enegy of Moreira on the left off the bench? What about Rabiot all action and with a goal? Pervis playing a solid game and looking interested while doing it?

      Do you love Milan?

      Forza Milan.

      1. All this against who? What happened to Benfica B team, where was Pulisic, Ramos or Morero’s, they need to step up in top games like Leao

        1. Where was Leao?

Oh yep. He wanted to leave and settled for the Turkish league where he is yet to have an impact.

Do you love Milan, or is it just Leao?

          He’s not coming back.

          Forza Milan.

    2. Olumighty is so pathetic. Hating on Pulisic because his crush Leao was sold. Makes perfect sense…Get over it or find another team. Every time Pulisic plays he makes you look more foolish. He’s been brilliant every time he’s played this season. Even stubborn and stupid Amorim can’t deny that. Apparently yo are are dumber than he is.

        1. A lot of that was based on Allegris style. Leao wasn’t scoring either. Pulisic proves his quality all the time. Just sit back and enjoy it! Milan is your team right?

    3. Lol now you lose your final card as you can’t rant about how many months Pulisic was not in the score sheet. Just go watch Galatasaray bro and thanks for the 38 mil.

  10. Funny how no one is talking about how useless Bartesaghi is….. This comic of a guy will be the only justifiable reason Estupinian starts. This guy can’t defend and he also can’t attack. He is usually dribbled past easily. Attacking wise, he is less than average.

        1. yes, seriously dude.

when you have to chase someone down the line is one thing, while staying in the backline is another.

we can’t seem Barte play there yet… and he had ok games this season, only one that he underperformed was today.

  11. The game

OK, I don’t want to hear that this was just Lecce, because what Milan did well had clear merit independently of the opponents. We saw today an entertaining Milan practicing beautiful, shining football, in various moments producing creative plays and good-looking triangulations, speedy and vertical, and with players tracking back and recovering lost balls; even the defense against set pieces and crosses which usually results in conceded goals, worked well tonight. This was Milan’s best game of the season, period, even accounting for the modest opponents, because we all remember how Milan had enormous trouble with the modest teams in previous seasons. We don’t know if this will translate into decent performances against more dangerous opponents, but let’s enjoy what we saw tonight, because it’s been a long time since we last saw our team playing this well. Incredible change from the last game, the huge fiasco against Benfica. One might say, but hey, Lecce does not provide the same competition quality that Benfica did, but that wasn’t even Benfica’s first team. That was Benfica with 2 starters and 9 reserves, and we were bad in all sectors of the game, all players were horrible, and we didn’t even display a fighting stance. Tonight it was the very opposite of all that, so, that was a remarkable recovey from the very bad taste that the last game left in our mouths.

    Starters

Maignan – 6.5, didn’t really need to work a lot but was always precise when he was called up to do something, like getting out of his area to stop an attack, and had one good save to preserve the clean sheet towards the end of the game. Participated well with his feet, too.

Pavlovic 7, exceptional assist to Pulisic, competent defensive work; some errors here and there but nothing bad, but in one brilliant assist, unblocking the game AND killing the monkey that was on Puli’s back deserves a 7!

Estupiñán 6, no gross errors which for him is more the exception than the rule. Botched an offensive action and actually got again boos from the fans, but this time a bit harsh as he also avoited a score by Lecce, in Lecce’s best offensive action of the entire game. Despite the boos, left with a smile because he knows that this time he was quite OK.

Gila 7, very good game, secure, well-positioned, winning pretty much all his duels and passing well.

De Winter 6.5, attentive, good defensive actions, no mistakes. Did his job without being brilliant.

Saelemaekers 6.5, ups and downs, some very good actions and passes but then also with his usual problem of lack of objectivity in the last third. However, dynamic, and actually helped in the defensive phase. For me, overall more positive than negative.

Chuckwease 6, tried hard, dynamic, had some good actions but was less incisive than usual and also lost some balls

Modric 7, benefited from Rabiot shielding him so that he could concentrate more on ball distribution rather than trying to defend, and he, as usual, distributed the ball quite well, with high pass precision

Rabiot 7.5, great triangulation with Ramos in his goal which was also a golazo, very active in all phases of the game, had one of his best performances.

Pulisic 8, undisputable MOTM, superb performance, tremendous golazo with spectacular first touch and finishing, and always intelligent and incisive throughout the minutes he played. Left under applause and played like the Pulisic of his best times for Milan. Let’s hope it continues. We know that he is fragile physically, but when he is healthy, he is capable of phenomenal performances like tonight’s.

Ramos 7.5, with two assists, helped a lot the team in multiple occasions, ran the longest distance of all Milan players. Again, not as present in the box which we still want from him, but with two assists and all the work he did for the team, this was one of his best performances of the season, redeeming himself from some pale ones of late.

    Subs

Moreira 7, again a super sub with a fabulous goal; this is a fast and dangerous player and arguably our best signing, and when he reaches full fitness he seems to be a mix of Theo and Rafa when they were at their best.

Loftus-Cheek 5.5, again fell to the ground which happens to him a lot, when given an exceptional pass which he should have turned into a goal. Nothing really useful.

Camarda S/V, didn’t have much time to do anything, played only 5 minutes, basically fighting with his marker who followed him rather closely, hindering any possibility of better actions for him.

Musah 6, also didn’t have much opportunity to do much; but in the little time he was given, did provide a couple of entertaining actions.

Bartesaghi 5.5, I actually think that he played worse than Estupiñán. Davide isn’t in a good phase.

    Mister Amorim 7

This time he showed flexibility; the team did play fluidly and with formation changes depending on what was going on; 3-4-2-1 became 3-2-3-2 in offense, 4-3-3 when defending without the ball, the initial lineup finally worked, and Milan produced its first goal in the first half of a game, all season. The beautiful and fluid football did look a lot more like Amorin Ball in terms of matching what the coach has been saying in interviews, than in all other games.

    1. Very good post! Don’t like the people who go “it’s just Lecce” after a performance like this. Remember Lecce at home last year? Exactly. Just like today they parked the bus and it took a long time to open them up. Today there were very good attacking ideas, contrary to the whole of last year where we relied on dumb luck. The people who said Amorim out after the Benfica game must be silent now. We haven’t been dominant like this all of last season under Allegri

      1. And if they will actually remember that Inter hadly beat any of the big teams last season and actually won the league.. i don’t even think they even won more than 1 game against the big sides, if they actually even win any.. i might be wrong.. but it was glaring

  12. Good game.
Hard to imagine that this is the same team that looked so trash againt Benfica barely 4 days ago, but again Benfica is much stronger than Lecce.
I don’t have a lot to see about the defense and Maignan, as Lecce barely created anything, but they didn’t any mistake so good job. Special mention to Pavlović with that nice long assist, but again I don’t like his runs forward.
Good display by Modrić and Rabiot. I think their combination is much better when we play against weaker teams that won’t challenge our midfield. Against tougher opposition, I think a more physical midfield would be required.
Wasn’t super impressed by Estupiñán tonight, or rather impressed that he didn’t do a silly mistake.
Chukwueze wasn’t bad either, but again I hate that each time he is picked for a run, he has to stop and turn the ball to his left foot.
Pulišić is finally back with a great goal, but even aside from that, almost every touch or pass he made carried some threat or allowed the momentum forward.
Very nice display by Saelemakers as well. A bit sloppy when it comes to passing and shooting, but his dribbling and speed were a lot of trouble for Lecce.
I’ll give a pass to Ramos tonight thanks to the 2 assists, but he drops a bit too deep for my liking and never seems to be in a good position to shoot or win a deflected ball (or when he is, he attempts a move beyond his skill level).
For the subs, the one who shined the most was Moreira who seems really technical as a player.
Players aside, the display was pretty nice (especially in the action leading to the second goal), and I’d like to see that more often and not just against tomato cans. I would also have liked to see Comotto given some time and Camarda more time.

  13. FINALLY. First the negative thing. Pervis redeemed himself overall today and it was nice to see San Siro give him his flowers when he was subbed off but they also jeered him early on. He made just as many mistakes as usual but this time they were all in the attacking half so it didn’t hurt us. He learned his lesson on those back post runs, so that’s good but oof he just cannot be the starter there. Apart from that, it was a perfect display from the team. That’s the type of controlled 3-0 win we used to see back in the day. It brought back memories of Zlatan and Pirlo controlling a game and smashing home beautiful goals. It’s not a complete project yet but it’s something to build on for sure. They look like they enjoy playing with each other and appreciate each other’s styles. RLC can’t play football anymore lol, it’s time for him to go in January. Diego looks like the real deal and why he cost what he did. It remains to be seen if LWB or left 10 is best but it’s good he can do both; we’ll need a large rotation with a lot of games coming up after the break. Really happy for the team and us fans, we all needed this. Feel sorry for Lecce being the unlucky punching bag but they really have no attack. Forza Milan.

  14. FINALLY. First the one negative…while it was nice to see San Siro give Pervis his flowers when he was subbed off, they also jeered him early on. He made the same amount of mistakes as usual just all in the attacking half so it was fine but oof, he cannot be a starter. Good to see he at least learned his mistake on back post errors. Other than that, this was the win we all needed. The fans, players, Amorim, you could feel it. It’s been so long since Milan have put in a controlled 3-0 drubbing like this. Brings back memories of Pirlo and Ibra playing beautiful controlled football and smashing home goals. Every one looks like they really enjoy playing with each other. Except RLC lol, he cannot play football anymore; he needs to go in January. Feel bad for Lecce being the victim of this outburst but they really have no attack and De Winter put in a fantastic performance, it went a little unnoticed because of all the attackers but he’s having a great season so far. Let’s build on this and keep going! Forza Milan.

  15. Up 3-0, why are we still giving chance to Loftus cheek and his uninspiring football? Just play Comotto and Camarda. Let us see what they can do.

  16. Great performance tonight.
They controlled the game from start to finish. Really pleasing to watch.
It was a strong line-up and this was needed after the Benfica performance.

    Finally a first half goal.

I enjoyed seeing Estupinan put in a solid performance. He made numerous strong attacking runs where either the pass didn’t reach him or was just not attempted. Presume this is one of the aspects that Amorin sees that he likes. He had a goal saving clearance this time at the back post.

The hate is is receiving is over the top. We should be supporting our players more.
Go back and look at all your comments before/during this game on the starting line-up article. It is pretty galling from a bunch a people who not even close to playing at this level.

    Enjoy the win people!

By far our best performance of the season.

    1. It always amazed me how many “fans” seem to hate every player and coach that ever represented their team. They were fans of a specific squad from a specific era and I don’t think they want those players coming back now. If the guys are putting in the effort but maybe just not good enough, thank them and hope they do better on their next team. If you are a top team, everyone will want to play there. I don’t blame a guy that isn’t good enough for wanting to play for a team like Milan, I blame the ownership and/or management for bringing in a player that was not the right fit. As long as the guy is giving effort, cut him some slack. He is sweating for “your team” while you sit around watching from the outside.

    2. Elstupido still sucks. Lecce clearly failed to press high, allthough they tried, and press our left side. Force Estupinian to make mistakes. Not Milan quality. One OK game against a bottom table team is not gonna change the way we with about a major flop for 2 seasons now.

        1. I think he’s saying Estupinan’s the flop… which I agree with -nothing’s changed for me because of one okay performance from him against Lecce…

        2. Yeah sorry for the misspelling. Estupinian is and was a flop. He sacked last season and he sucks this season so far.

          1. Point I’m making is that you are calling his whole season a disaster in week 5. That shows that you have formed an opinion on him already and are not waiting for the evidence to come in.

Yes his last season was mostly bad. And yes prior to this game he has been a combination of average & terrible.

However the manager clearly sees something in his traits that he thinks will work for this team.

I am prepared to wait and see.
Rather than already declaring him as a season flop in round 5.

I don’t have an issue with fans criticising a player after a performance. But writing him off before the match is played is another thing, Today before the game there was an avalanche of outrage comments about him being selected as a starter.

People need to have more faith in sporting team and them having reasons for their decisions.
Looking at Koni De Winter’s post game comments. There seemed to be a plan for them to play like a back 4 and let Chuk get further forward. So Gila was more of a RB & Estupinan a LB.
Giving balance and then allowing to launch Moreira off the bench as a weapon on a tired defence. It worked.

          2. To Warren: I am not calling this season a disaster by any means. I am saying Estupinian is a flop. And not Milan quality period. It’s way too early to call off this season. There have been flashes of good football, 2nd half against Lazio, last night’s game, etc. Hope it’ll be a good season. My eyes hurt though when I see loftus and Estupinian play. Although the latter did ok last night since we played a low block team with no clue how to attack.

  17. Good win. 3 points are always welcome.
See what happens when you put good players in their right positions? Who would have thought?Great job Puli!
Next up Moreira for Estu! Moreira reminds me a bit of Douglas Costa. Very quick acceleration.. he’s just so dangerous.
De Winter was really good but I think he can do even better. Like he has a couple levels he can go up to truly world class.
Otherwise on an individual level I think probably Saelemakers need to take bench. It’s just not working as an attacking mid. I wonder if he’d be better suited coming off the bench as a wing back.
Overall we did well to manage the game. There were some nearby moments but clearly this is a team in progress (new tactics and system). Two points off top after 4. I’d take that any year. League is long.

  18. Great game tonight. Much needed win and much needed goals. Would have loved to see a goal from our 70 mil man but 2 assists, can’t complain. Modric formula worked today as lecce is a low bolck team. Even when they tried to press high, they were disorganized. How about that goal from puli??!!. Superb control. What a player. That goal from Rabiot was also like champagne football. Triangles with Ramos, simple football but yet beautiful and effective. Ramos did well too. Elstupido did ok, nevertheless we played lecce that seemed to respect us too much. Rabiot is one of the best box to box CM in the world. No wonder he starts for France, full of talents. The salad man was being the saladman. Hard work, but not precise to the final pass. He is no AM. Wish Amorim sees that. Gila is a different class and Dewinter has been so solid. Big surprise so far. Pavlo did wellas well. That assist was clear Amorim’s direction. Long balls to utilize our fast players and break that high line. Loftus was loftus, useless. Said it before Estupinian and loftus don’t belong here, Wish Amorim sees that. Even after today’s win. Yes Bart was poor too. But don’t forget he is young. Last year, if I remember correctly, we had multiple offers from top clubs and we didn’t sell him. There must be something there. All in all good game and much need points. Moreira is such a threat, would love to see him start. Even as a second striker. Given his speed and killer instinct in front of the goal. He is not AM either. Would love to see more of Commoto, Jashari and Carmada in games like these, since Armorim likes to rotate so much.

      1. Agree. He did very well. Add to that, he was again one of our top runners. He works hard, which is a very good thing. The only thing that is missing is goals, not his fault though.

        1. He would have had a goal tonight if De Winter had not jumped in front of him and took a chance off his head.
          Very unfortunate.
One of those ones where you can understand why Koni went for it. But had he left the ball alone Ramos had an easy header.

          1. Unfortunate, but Koni was even better placed than him and was obliged to hit the ball. He just didn’t manage to hit it well.

  19. I really don’t get ratings sometimes.

I thought Estupinan was really good today. I had huge concerns about him starting after his lack of attention last time out but he’d had enough coffee this time; his tracking and clearance prevented a certain goal, just as critical as any huge save or scored shot at the other end.

Glad to see Ramos get the recognition he deserved; 6 games, he’s played nearly, if not all, of the minutes and he’s been out player who has covered most distance in each game. Absolute workhorse.

Pavlovic rating is a classic. He loses half a point for missing a shot but if he doesn’t go on that run at all he doesn’t advance the play, cause the danger, gain the territory and apparently then he’d get a higher grade? Nonsense.

Anyone, good team game all around. Modric had some issues losing the ball and personally I thought Chukwueze was very good and intelligent in his play but overall good stuff from everyone.

  20. That was an enjoyable performance. Many positive to see, I dont need to point it out.

Only got one question, if a games like this – winning 3-0 at Home against Lecce, with 17 mins left (normal time) to play, is not enough to play Comotto (and only 3 mins normal time for Camarda) then when will they get the game time?

He get 2 subs at the right time (76 mins) but he put in Musah and Bart… Surely thats plenty of time to rest Ramos and play Camarda, and let Comotto play instead of Musah? Or is there any agreement that Ramos cant be subs out if he is not injured? Man running the most every games and plays full time almost everytime bar Lazio.

    1. No rush, you don’t expect a toddler to grow just in a day it takes process, don’t forget Almorin is a new coach with new pressing techniques…the way we press isn’t far from the way Barcelona press all just left is for our players to adapt very fast to the coach playing style and i believe in this milan players..so no rush please, all we can do is give Almorin the best support we can give him and stop the criticism. Forzamilan

  21. So here we are. 5 games in and we finally see a dominant Milan performance, allbeit vs. a Lecce squad that has shipped 4 goals at home to Roma and is one of the relegation favourites.

You can see what Amorim wanted to do today, but his comments make me think that he wants to approach each game differently. Ambitious, but I don’t think that’s going to work at this level.

The results dictate the attitude around this team a lot of the time, and rightly so given this is Milan. We’re always happy to win, but now we go 2 weeks with our squad flying around the world before they can build on the momentum of this win.

What’s more troubling, a 75 million euro striker with 1 goal in 6 competitive games. There are players you can give a pass to, your Gimenez or your Morata (barely), but this was an investment for present and future. Ramos has to score. I understand the “work off the ball” that you like to see but that’s not worth 75m euros.

My biggest worry is Amorim is too soft on this squad, and maybe he has no choice. Maybe these aren’t players who can handle the reality of this club. Maybe the reality of this club isn’t what it once was anymore. Regardless, there is something very important missing when it comes to the identity of this club. Allegri had it for 29 games, but he didn’t have the players for it. If Amorim’s identity is going to be fluid, we’ll never know what we really are.

  22. Saw something about Milan’s game that I haven’t seen in a good while…playing in tight spaces and getting out of a press without a wild clearance…definitely something to build on for RA. Will happily take the performance, it is good for morale. Forma Milan

    1. What’s the point of using Italian players at a club level if they are very young (Cisse, Comotto, Camarda) or simply bad (Terraciano)?

    2. And with the performance of De Winter, sadly I think Mattia’s game time will be less and less once he’s healthy. Kudos to De Winter tho, on seizing the opportunity given.

Hopefully we’ll regularly see Cisse, Barte, Camarda, and even Comotto from time to time.

  23. How on earth Pavlovic is a 6.5? What in the world is that?

Gave a wonderful assist, played whole 90 minutes, was active in all phases of the game, conceded zero goals and got nominated as MOTM by the association.

    Flashscore: 8.4
    Goal.com: 8
    Football-Italia: 7

  24. I don’t think the “Leece” argument is important here because this was a step in the right direction for Amorim and the players. It will take a lot longer than 5 days to get everything running smoothly, and there will still be a lot of hick ups down the season. But as long as Amorim balances his system with what the players actually can and can not do, we should be performing reasonably well. There are still positions of need and redundancies.

  25. Would say that Estupinan deserved a higher rating than Saelemakers. Saele wasted 6 or 7 attacking moves by making the wrong pass or shooting when a teammate was in a better position, and don’t get me started on his attempts to dribble past 3 players and losing the ball entirely.
Comparatively Pervis didn’t make that many mistakes in defense and even had a goal line clearance (lesson learned from the Lazio match possibly).

In no universe was Saele better than Estupinan this match.
