AC Milan recorded their first defeat of the pre-season, still without a win, and several players struggled to perform at the right level. Below are the ratings for the Rossoneri.
Ruiben Amorim and his men headed into the game with hopes of clinching their first win of the pre-season, but instead they got their first defeat. Chelsea were definitely the better side in the game and some mistakes from the Rossoneri didn’t help.

Short Version
🥇 Torriani (6 – MOTM): You can’t fault him on the goals really, with the first two being the result of poor defending and the third being unsaveable. He made a good save on Joao Pedro in the first half, and then one on Neto, and then Estevao in the second half.
👎 Terracciano (4.5): His defending on the second goal was rather comical, putting his arms out as if it was completely safe to just let the cross go. He clearly wasn’t aware of his surroundings and easily lost his man (while looking silly). Schoolboy error.
👔 Amorim (5.5): I’m not sure how much we can pin on him as far as the individual mistakes go (first and second goal), but there’s no doubt that Milan weren’t up to the task tactically. Improvements are needed fast with the season coming up.
Starting XI

De Winter (5): Overall, he was fine but the way he mistimed the corner on Chelsea’s first goal was no good. He should have done a lot better there, even if it’s not one of the biggest defensive mistakes you will ever see.
Pavlovic (6): In my opinion, he was solid in defence with some strong duels and balls intercepted high up the pitch. He also had a few good runs forward to at least try to make something happen. It wasn’t brilliant, of course, but enough for a pass.
Chukwueze (5.5): He was beaten by Palestra too many times on the right-hand side. Not that we should expect him to be brilliant defensively, but he has to do better if he’s meant to play in that role.
Modric (6): We saw a couple of good balls over the top from him, which his teammates perhaps could have done more with. That said, it was nothing more than decent this time out from the veteran.
Comotto (5.5): I think he did okay with what he had to work with, which frankly wasn’t that much. There were some moments when he did well to offer support and helped Milan play out of the situation. But in truth, hard to say after just 45 minutes.
Estupinan (5): It’s probably fair to say that he struggled a bit defensively in the battles with Neto, but his biggest error came in attack. Leao set him up really well and the Ecuadorian had time to find a teammate, but sent it straight to the goalkeeper’s hands.
Loftus-Cheek (5.5): One good run down the right flank, but the ball ended up too far from him at the final moment. That was more or less what we saw from him today, so it was a bit disappointing compared to the Inter performance.
Leao (5.5): Started quite lively and had a couple of good moments, such as setting up Estupinan inside the box (great chance for a cross), but ultimately struggled against the Chelsea defence. I would even go as far as to say that towards the end of the first half, Josh Acheampong had full control of him.
Camarda (5.5): Not the best performance from him, as he not only struggled to make a difference in attack but also failed to help out in the build-up phase. There were many times when he should have been in a position and just wasn’t.
Substitutes
Gabbia (5.5): Chelsea got into a groove and the Milan product didn’t have the best of defenders alongside him, but I still think that he could have done a bit more.
Diawara (5.5): We saw one good block from the new signing, but sadly, he lost the ball a few times up the pitch due to poor technique. Didn’t quite have the timing.
Saelemaekers (5.5): Too many misplaced passes from him, and he seemed a bit lazy when it came to tracking back.
Jashari (5.5): Attempted a few difficult passes but didn’t have any success with them. One pass in particular stood out as he tried to play it over the top but ended up hitting it low, failing completely.
Musah (6): He was low-key the best substitute for Milan, which maybe says a lot, as he created a great chance for Nkunku/Ramos with a very nice run on the right. He also did well in possession a few times.
Bartesaghi (5.5): I said that Estupinan struggled on the left-hand side and it was pretty much the same story for Bartesaghi, albeit not as bad.
Nkunku (5.5): The Musah cross I mentioned above could have been capitalised on by the Frenchman, but it seemed as if he tried to leave it for Ramos. Either way, the end product was poor and his overall performance wasn’t great either.
Ramos (5.5): He definitely got in Nkunku’s way a little bit on the Musah cross. It felt like he could have done a bit better on a few occasions, and also went down a lot (even if he should have had 1-2 more free-kicks than he got). An injection of energy, but sadly not too much quality.
Ricci (5.5): One outside-of-the-boot attempt stands out from him but aside from that, it was a disappointing one with fouls committed and a lack of key passes.
Vladimirov (5.5): He’s always going to struggle at this level and against such opponents, so it was no surprise to see him get beaten easily on the right. Hopefully, it serves as a learning experience.
The manager
Amorim (5.5): I’m not sure how much we can pin on him as far as the individual mistakes go (first and second goal), but there’s no doubt that Milan weren’t up to the task tactically. Improvements are needed fast with the season coming up.
The only good thing about today is Yprriani and Plaestra. Palestra made a right decision and he will be a starter for Chelsea. Not a good advert for calcio. After wasting millions on one man, Milan couldn’t buy any decent player. What a sad decline. Growing up with Maldini, Nesta, Pirlo, Kaka, Shevchenko, Inzaghi to this sorry squad of clowns. Milan need a backbone of academy players. Can’t buy all 11 players.

Had the chance to watch the game live. Well, our build up is still extremely slow. And now the Amorim system requires us to build from the back, making it even slower in transition.
The only player worth watching is Modric, as always. Hope we can better when players like Rabiot, Pulisic, and Gila join the team.
And also it’s sad to see how dangerous our ex target Jackson everytime he held the ball compared to our biggest splash in Ramos.
What i was struggling with is the communication between defenders, defenders and GK, seemed like there was nothing of it. Then the middle of the park, so exposed
Leao was the best.
This should be stronger team that Allegri had. And he almost got to champions league.

Year by year uefa champions league.
It is 80 to 100 of revenue without players sales. Milan now can spend 70% of 300 million of revenue without capital gains. That as around 200 on ammortisations and salaries. Needs this 100 more to have full back as Hernandez and strong centre back.
Torriani not even a backup GK? Where is Comotto here and what about Diawara, Cisse and Kostic? Chukwueze just can’t operate as a right WB.

Milan needs slow integration of youngsters. It is because club does not have the result to risk more with kids.
He is right imo, Torriani is praised defensively but he sits extremely deep and doesn´t push forward at all. This costs the whole team hight and cohesion. Imo he should go on a 2 year loan and then we see, but having him as a back up for a sweeper keeper like Mike is a tactical clusterfuck.
Leão is just the best. EPL teams will be lining up to buy him after this game.

The issue has always been the quality of the players, not the manager. Even Guardiola couldn’t make a meaningful difference with this squad, and I don’t see the two new signings changing much. Our defense desperately needs an upgrade, and we lack quality in midfield to feed the attackers and create chances — we’re creating absolutely nothing right now. Given the player material he has to work with, I don’t believe Amorim will be able to succeed here.
He’s far far from being the best previous match. He drifted way to the left from being left AM, left too many unoccupied spaces. I can’t remember him beating his man as well.

He can’t be sold as no real offers are coming in. As it looks like ACM need to buy a quality defender or two they need to sell Pulisic to NYFC or at least offer him around.
Nobody will pay the price for a guy that couldn’t score for 6 months and is injured often. That is the reality. Multiple PL clubs bought wingers, including Arsenal and Liverpool. Did anyone ask about Pulisic or Leao? Be serious. You keep talking like Pulisic is some word class player everyone wants and Leao is the opposite.
NYFC has offered for him. The only question is if he wants to go. No one asked for Pulisic because ACM made it clear he wasn’t for sale- need those shirt sales. He may not go to a top club or would go as a backup winger. As he certainly is not going to extend at ACM you are better off selling him. I am sure he sees the writing on the wall with the ‘project’ AKA as ACM and would be more open to moving.
No. No one asked because they didn’t want him. RB Leipzig said they are not selling Diomande and still PSG and Real Madrid offered 140M€ and he is signing for Real Madrid. How if they said he isn’t for sale? Milan would sell anyone for a good offer and PL clubs know this.
They are both good players, not top clubs material. That is how it is.
Also, we see no EPL team wants Leao. Turkey is the only place he can go. So, neither he or Pulisic are top line players. The price that is paid is market value despite what ACM thinks.

98 minutes, no shots on target. No functioning defense. Could have easily lost 8-0 as Chelsea missed at least 5 opportunities, two “saved” by the post and three by Torriani, the only player who performed well. Same old defensive mistakes and a flat offense. Frankly embarrassing; and only one friendly from the start of the season.
We looked like the mid table amateurs that we are.
I have no inclination to do my own ratings. Just a 6 for Torriani, and a collective 3 for the rest of the team.
We continue to suffer from years of disjointed transfer windows with incompetent scouting and recruiting; resulting in a bunch of players who fit no system whatsoever; and now we don’t even have a sporting director again.
Hard to blame Amorim. He was actually courageous, when he accepted to coach this train wreck. Still, as Cardinale will never acknowledge his own mistakes, Amorim will likely end up being fired early (which will fix nothing).
When other than the young goalkeeper, your second best player is Musah, you know that you are in deep trouble.
Banter years 2.0, here we come. No trophies for several years to come, until Cardinale gets tired of playing with the ownership of a football club, sells the club and returns to baseball or something; then hopefully the new owner fires everyone, all players and all staff, and restarts from scratch; if done right, maybe in 3 or 4 years from that point, we will again earn a trophy. Maybe.
For this coming season, I predict an 8th place finishing if we are lucky to avoid an even lower position.
Sure, we are still missing Rabiot, Gila and Puli, but can they fix this mess once they come back? If they are in good form, maybe we’ll be slightly less bad than the disaster we saw today, but they won’t be accomplishing any miracles.
Because see, the problem is not so much a lack of individual quality. We were the Serie A team that sent the largest number of players to the World Cup. The problem is that these players don’t fit together and as a group they are not ideal for any system. As things stand, the whole is much smaller than the sum of the parts, and no coach can fix that.
Problems exist everywhere and the roster is bloated. The defense though, is by far the weakest department. Any decent team will know how to score on us at will. And given that as bad as he is in offense, Allegri is still less bad than Amorim defensively, and the team still failed in 5th place under Allegri, conceding essential goals that prevented us from making top 4, do expect Amorim to fare even worse.
You can’t win with a defense this dreadful. Unless you have PSG’s offense to score even more than you concede; and we clearly don’t.
Serie A bottom feeders will continue to feat on us. Mark my words.

Yall need to criticize the players during preseason cos it’s supposed to be an audition and most of them are totally failing the audition so far. Amorim is a train wreck himself, the dude had a year and 9 months and lost a final to a Tottenham team that has never won anything. His football is aimless and in fact I can say that he has implemented his style already because this is what it looked like at United. The owner is liable for hiring a moron who said that the team at United needed to suffer.
The management structure also makes no sense again. It wasn’t like Tare is anything special. But I agree there was a known structure that worked. This thing that is going on at Milan makes no sense again.

Exactly this. I watched the match and have no real observation other than where we might actually need reinforcements above all else is at wingback. Chukwueze is a decent player, but he is NOT a wingback. Then on the left side Estupinan is just not up to it. Can’t believe the club didn’t take the Aston Villa offer and run. It’s bananas.
Our obvious problem is Camarda in this match he made our attack dead as F loan him out to gain experience he is talented but not ready

I didn’t know the reason for the many negativity in the comments, Chelsea started 80-90% of their first eleven while milan started with less than 50% of the first eleven and Chelsea also started training before Milan did so I don’t know why ppl are too concerned about a training match like this.

Yes. But they already would have been evaluating before this match. I doubt he does not know by now even before the Chelsea match. Probably transfers deals have already started. After all, the Ramos deal practically came out of nowhere.. there was not too much rumours about that one. I wouldn’t bother about this match one bit, he knew we would struggle when he put that line up.. we all knew.. so i don’t get all this negativity. It was an audition for sone players.
And yes Amorim was not most peoples first choice because of what happened at Man.United, but he was very sought after before that stint. If he feels now he is in a club that has given him the role he wants compared to what he complained about in Man.Utd, then fine! let’s see how things unfold and judge him a few games into the season.. I don’t mind if he wants to do his on evaluation of players that we already thought were not good. That’s his choice.
And actually i might get thc constant negativity from a lot of people here.. it’s addiction or habitual… i blame the media.. there was so many negative news and rumours spill out from newspapers and journalists everyday because of the management structure(which is one of the good things from this mass clearance, because that constant news cycle has stopped) that it’s like they all got used to it that any positive is an anomaly and they seem to be at home and in peace when something is not good. Admittedly last seasons collapse has to do with it as well.. But it will be good if people could just relax.. it’s not as if they read the comments here anyway..
I’m not sure what we’re learning that we don’t already know? The team is full of holes and many players that are not particularly good at any one thing. Not sure how long it takes Amorim to realize he’s in way over his head here…

It should be very obvious by now that the Ac Milan team cannot really play with a 3-4-3 or 3-5-1 formation. But we all know that the coach will continue with that formation nonetheless. Compared to Inter or Juventus, Ac Milan has never achieved anything noteworthy with a three man defence formation. The best thing Amorim can do is to find a way to make this underwhelming squad play with any formation with a back four with natural wingers on the left and right.
