AC Milan failed to bring a good result back from Rotterdam as Feyenoord prevailed by the odd goal, following a big mistake by Mike Maignan. Below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri, with only a few positives.
If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.
Starting XI
Maignan (4): While Milan didn’t play well and could have conceded more goals, the one they did let in was all due to the Frenchman’s mistake. Sadly, we have seen far too many similar mistakes from the goalkeeper in the last year or so, especially at the near post.
Walker (5): He certainly lost his 1v1 battle tonight and struggled overall in defence, not quite getting the attempted tackles/interceptions right. He also added very little in attack and wasn’t exactly best friends with the ball.
Thiaw (6): Overall, I actually think he defended okay with some dangerous chances headed away. Most of the issues for Milan were on the flanks, leaving the centre-backs exposed. The German also set up Leao for the 1v1 with the keeper.
Pavlovic (6.5 – MOTM): Milan’s best player today without a doubt. It wasn’t always pretty, but he got the job done in almost all duels and actually saved the Rossoneri on a couple of occasions with some very nice blocks. For a 7, he would have needed to eliminate the silly mistakes in possession.
Hernandez (5.5): He looked a bit lazy at the back again, unfortunately, and struggled to stop even the most predictable moves (such as one-twos). The contribution in attack wasn’t much better with struggles to get the crosses right.
Fofana (5): I’m starting to think it’s more of a structural issue, but once again the Frenchman failed to have a positive impact on the game. He had a couple of very poor giveaways and often found himself beaten in the duels. There were some good passes forward, but nowhere near enough for someone who is meant to direct the team.
Reijnders (5.5): The Dutchman missed a great chance in the attack before Feyenoord’s goal, putting it straight at the keeper. He should have done a lot better with the shot, potentially passed instead, but he was at least involved in a lot in the first half. In the second, however, he faded and that brings down his rating.
Pulisic (6): He had a couple of good runs into the box, and tracked back well most of the time, but he also struggled a bit in possession. Feyenoord’s intensive press made it difficult and quite a few fouls were given away as a result. On the other hand, he helped set up the chance for Reijnders at the start with a really nice run.

Joao Felix (6): There were doubts about his abilities in the pressing phase but in the second half, he won the ball back several times. He was behind almost every ‘dangerous’ chance that Milan had, dropping down when needed as well, but his shots could have been better in the decisive moments. Encouraging but still some things missing.
Leao (4.5): He went down far too easily on the penalty incident, at least in my opinion, and he missed a couple of good chances as well. The biggest one, of course, was the 1v1 with the keeper as he took far too long to get a shot away. In fairness, he did beat his man a lot in the second half but nothing came of it. The end product was lacking, as we so often say.
Gimenez (5.5): It was a rather quiet game for him and while you could argue that the nature of the evening affected him negatively, it’s equally true that he didn’t get much service. Still, if this had been Morata, the comments would have been…
Substitutes
Tomori (5.5): Milan were pushing for an equaliser so perhaps it’s understandable, but he was quite rash tonight as well and didn’t feel like too much of an improvement off the bench. Some good interventions still, though.
Chukwueze (5.5): Tracked back well on a couple of occasions, but Milan brought him on for his attacking abilities and ultimately, he wasn’t too successful with those.
Camarda (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.
Abraham (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.
On their last podcast IFTV said we’re the dark horses of the CL.. we’re more like the light donkeys..
Certainly playing like we did does not help, but Sergio has to figure out a functional way to field our attackers because whatever we saw today was terrible.
4231 doesn’t work and 442 doesn’t work with Leao. So I’d be almost tempted to try a 433 and alternate Felix and Reijnders with the Dutchman starting. He’s been easily our best player this season …
The biggest problem with Leao besides not wanting to defend is he has no soccer sense. When around the box he is typically unaware of where his teammates are. So usually he makes the wrong decision on whether to shoot cross or pass. He is just not soccer smart.
I like Pulisic and he is probably one of most consistent players all season but he was poor today and had no impact. Leao was poor finishing but at least he was creating chances. These authors hate Leao and love Puli it’s very obvious. BOTh were poor today as was Felix. Reindjers and Felix cannot play together. Reindjers is not a ball wining DM. Does r work and we are too unbalanced. Walker showed a bit of age and had a lot of trouble against a younger faster player. Mike should have had that shot. Gimennez was non-existent. Theo poor. Thiaw and Pavlovic did well. Not much to like about today.
“Leao was poor finishing but at least he was creating chances.”
Created chances? Not even one.
I agree with you. Total lack of balance and front players getting in each others way.
Conceicao must use 442, without Leao.
Leao is great player, but this season he always good as a supersub. So, let Leao on the bench at first half.
100 percent need to do that
The issue I saw was 90% of the play went up the left side. There was no switching of play. Our wingers when they get the ball have one or two defenders to beat, but then there are othe defenders positioned behind them Leão’s crosses from the end line were never going to reach a player. Pulisic had so few touches why was he even on the field. The manager set the team up to play thru Leão and Felix.
Maybe Fonseca was right with 424 just a thought.
Nice
🤣🤣
It was two first halves today. The typical first half where we come out flat. Then a second half where we stayed that way. Our Fab Four looked more like the Disinterested Duo with Leao reverting back to pitch walking and Gimenez a no show.
Magnion – 5 – It was a howler, but he is not why we lost this game.
Theo – 5 – Even the commentators in the US were saying things like, “he should have reached that ball sooner.” Absolutely no interest in making the extra effort.
Pav – 6 – MOTM – all hustle all the time. Many great defensive actions and even a shot on target. He was too loose in passing to get better than a pass however.
Thiaw – 6 – did his job, made some decent passes forward.
Walker – 5.5 – looked awful lot like people were describing Calabria as he was abused by Paxiao. Seems to have been infected with the lack of intensity.
Fofana – 5 – few good defensive stops and I cannot remember a pass he made that connected. Really poor. Dude clearly needs a rest.
Reinjders – 5.5 – popped up here and there but was largely anonymous for the majority of the game.
Leao – 4.5 – He had some good offensive actions, but has reverted to quitting on the play as soon as he is dispossessed. Didn’t see him make any meaningful efforts off the ball.
Joao Felix – 6 – If he was planning CAM, then he gets a pass. He took the ball in tight spaces and tried to make things happen. Harder runs by his team might have seen some chances created.
Puli – 5.5 – Not up to his standard. He worked hard in the defensive part of the game, but seemed to be resigned to not seeing the ball on the offensive side so did make runs or cut them short. (first time I have ever rated him lower than Isak)
Gimenez – 5 – starved for service and when he got the ball he lost it pretty quickly. This is how he is known in the US – as a guy who doesn’t show up for the big games.
Subs …
Tomorri – 5.5 – inexplicably fouls in extra time when it was unnecessary and cost us a minute. Just another example of missing awareness. Got turned around on a couple of counters. Did an amazing job stopping one counter single handedly.
Chuk – 6 – Good efforts in both offense and defense. Got off a good shot and shut down a dangerous counter.
Tammy – didn’t really see enough, but he was also starved of service
Camarda – didn’t see enough, but he was also starved of service.
What is the point of having target men that we don’t target? Felix spent equal time attempting to referee the game as play it. How have we shown up to 11 of the last 12 games and started so poorly? When will we properly manage Fofana and Reinjders? They are both shadows of themselves.
Feyenoord was the better team today and deserved the win. They fought for every ball and won most of them. They made the bursting runs to create space. They came ready to fight for every opportunity. We seem to have come on a school trip.
I am now wondering aloud, is Sarge (7 – 2 – 3) really better than Fonzy (12 – 6 – 6)? Consider this after he just got the reinforcements so many here are singing about.
Fab Four … Still looks like the Lone Ranger (Puli) to me. And even he had an off game today.
I was all riled up to give my thoughts but honestly I just feel flat and disappointed. Shameful display, shown on normal tv where I am (not many Milan fans) and they were embarrassing.
Thanks for writing more or less my thoughts. Except I think Felix was also useless, wasting possession, corners, running into trouble, complaining to the ref, diving etc
I am honestly shocked. They are really letting down the image of the club.,
Now when you sell or puch out all the players who actually cared and fought for the shirt, this is what you get. It’s like we are PSG, just with much less money
I’ll add that it’s time to talk about the manager (I have not judged him before) but Feyenord had a guy for 2 days!
So either he has done better in 2 days than our coach in 2 months or their team before they sacked the last manager was better than we are. Its a bad look.
Yep, Feyenoord came to play and it showed!
Ummm, but the result says Mike’s mistake is exactly why we lost this game lol
The ball bounced again
You do realize that scoring would motivate the mistake. We didn’t score against a Dutch team with a coach 2 days into the job and brought up from U21.
Read that again. We were out coached by a U21 coach. We were out played by a struggling Dutch team.
SMH
To be honest, I think we lost because of away game and bad weather. Just not our day really
yeah, and a team that loss their Talisman, who know playing for us. and did nothing
*now
Struggling Dutch team who beat Bayern 3-0 in this same arena.
Have some respect. They were organized and played well. It was a bad performance for Milan but a 0-0 result would have been acceptable.
Milan also won the Supercup against Juve and Inter with a coach appointed two days prior.
What p!sses me off the most about Leao is not even that he walks around, or doesn’t play defense, it’s that he often gets into a mode where he just tries to dribble the entire opposing side. Get past one man and then cross or shoot bro. Let the ball go. He was trying to dribble the GK on that chance where he was through on goal in the first half. JUST SHOOT THE BALL. But no, he tried some kind of trick and then just overran the ball.
“I am now wondering aloud, is Sarge (7 – 2 – 3) really better than Fonzy (12 – 6 – 6)? Consider this after he just got the reinforcements so many here are singing about.” Exactly. But to be fair, the coaches have changed and what has stayed the same? The players that are poor are still poor. You could bring in Conte and Leao and Theo would still walk, Tomori will still get red carded, etc.
There’s a reason Conceicao can be canned after 6 months. These Portuguese coaches are mostly the same. I expect we’ll get past Feyenoord, but not Inter.
I don’t even know where the issue lies.
Are we better now with Conceicao as compared to Fonseca and Pioli? Maybe defensively, we are less open than before but still conceding a lot. The substitutions rarely make a big impact in terms of gameplay or energy.
Players quality should not be an issue as they are definitely higher than most opponents, and yet we struggled to even pass the ball properly. Most shots go straight to the goalkeeper. Crosses rarely made it to danger areas, either cut out by the first man or overhit.
Nah, Fikayo on the pitch was more effective in setting up attacks than Thiaw was. I would rate Tomori higher than Thiaw tonight.
This season’s Scudetto will be the referee’s final whistle in the 38-th round. Nothing, absolutely nothing brings hunger and enthusiasm to this team, whether it’s a win against Real or quality new players arriving. There’s something incredibly wrong within the core of the club that makes any sort of excitement between games completely meaningless, because they know at best we’ll win and then mess up big time in the next game. A truly hopeless bunch, from the ridiculous management to the zombie squad.
Yeah, this seems to be a culture problem and culture starts at the top of an organization.
Seeing Walker play at 80% was confirmation for me. He had no impact on the defense today and as Isak said he and Theo made it a tough night on Magnion, Pav & Thiaw.
I am stunned by our lack of work rate. Maybe we are trying a new stat like half-a$$ heroics?
Whats wrong is that you have a core of merceneries instead of milanistas. Don’t excpect too much effort from that kind of mentality. That’s why its important to have a core of players who love the club, which of course affects the rest of the players too.
What is this nonsense take about needing Milanistas to win? How many Italians are on Inter’s roster? How many Englishmen are on Man City and Liverpool’s rosters? Nationalism isn’t a requirement for winning club soccer with any other club in the world. Why would it be for Milan?
Barella, Dimarco, Bastoni, Darmian, Acerbi, Fratessi
Lol all the best teams in history have been made from core of home players. Take a look at Milan with Maldini, Baressi, Costacurta etc. Or the best Barca with Xhavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Busquets…
Inter has pleanty of Italians, Man City has british players and so does Liverpol. Its not just nationalities is about mentality that comes from loving the club.
Lol, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Those teams have 3-4 players of the same nationality. How many Man City players do you think grew up loving the club? Maybe Foden and Haaland (because his dad played there). De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, the rest of these guys probably went there for Pep and the money.
I think it’s less of a nationality thing and more of home grown. I’d probably fight harder for players I’ve played with since the academy days and that usually means players from the same country.
Man City has like 9 british players… Seems like you are the one who doesn’t even understands what core is. Let alone for you to be able to understand how mentality works. No point in this conversation, its to complex for you.
We need a purge based on attitude and effort, not “skills”. Sell Theo and Leao to begin with, and replace them with players who have demonstrated grit.
This is full foreign cardinale milan. The mercenaries zombie squads.
Moncada built the squad, Cardinale doesn’t know anything about football.
Mike Maignan, what else can I say. He’s not a world class shot stopper, and probably never will be. So many blunders, so many goals conceded at least partially by him.
Otherwise, Feyenoord were the better team, but not by much. A 0-0 would be more fitting. But Conceicao’s fantastic four formation simply didn’t work, and that’s a point of concern. Gimenez was arguably the worst, perhaps he was nervous playing against his former side.
We will get them in the home leg.
Unlike all the other current Milan players who are world class, right? At least he can point to certain games this season and say “I saved your behind that day, remember”. The rest of the bunch were dead in said games as well while he helped us clinch pathetic 1-0/2-1 victories.
Mike’s only Achilles’ heel is his near post. Outside of that, he will always save us more points than cost us.
Only defence did well today especially Pavlovic we are very lucky to didn’t sale him in the transfert window,he show today to be very world class defender for me 🔥🔥
No body besides pavlovic deserves a rating higher than 5. I truly don’t understand the inconsistencies here. Under conceicao it has been nothing but stress. Why can’t we figure out the first half? There’s no intensity we’re second to every ball and we’re always ball watching. Today the whole game was bad and No player besides pavlovic looked interested. What is happening to motivate these players vs ‘smaller’ teams? Fofana and reijnders played the double pivot under fonseca and they were the bright spark of his tenure when everything went wrong now its the complete opposite. Theo looks like he’s lost something, no longer takes on his man nor can he outrun them. Leao no matter who his coach is he’s lazy and maybe only pioli understood that he’s not going to change so I’ll use him in a way to get the best out of him because he offers nothing defensively and perhaps it’s ruining his game offensively because his end product today was wrong every time.
There’s no transition from defence and attack today and probably the worst since conceicao took over. Just when you think he’s finally turned a leaf with this team after some decent displays against inter and roma this is perhaps the worst game under him. We sabotage ourselves and if we can’t get past feyenoord in champions league it will be unforgiveable for me. These players need to look each other in the eye and understand they can give a lot more than what this is because majority of the time its like they don’t care.
Well said.
There is no excuse for laziness!!
Good write up!
This is full foreign cardinale milan. The unmotivated mercenaries guys.
Also, one of the biggest issues is the quality of passes. Slow & inaccurate. Horrible.
I’m a Leao hater since last year and i just want him gone this summer while his value still high, anyone who think he is world class are deluded, Cassano is correct with his assessment of Leao.
All you need to know why this team is getting outplayed in almost every game even though it has better players than most teams they play against is watching the supposedly best player on the team, first simulating a foul for a penalty and then sitting on the ground for a whole minute for no reason while Milan is in possession, deep in Feyenord half of the pitch, down a goal in a UCL knockout match. That lazy overrated bum should have been subbed off right then and there. Another game where he is the worst player on the pitch. Sell him this summer once and for all and buy Paixao.
Outside of Pavlovic and maybe Thiaw the rest were trash.
What would we do if we sell the best GK in the whole wide world Mike Maignan? Another near post goal given up in a UCL knockout stage game at that.
2 of your supposedly best players and superstars 🤣🤣🤣 start a UCL knockout game nonchalant and lackadaisical. Great way to lead.👏👏👏
I’m glad Isaac mentioned the service or the lack thereof when rating Gimenez. I said that buying a striker will be a waste of money this January. Just another player who will do cardio out there while getting no service or touching the ball. But geniuses blamed Morata and Tammy for not converting the many non existent chances the team created.
All Feyenord needs to do at San Siro is sit back and play the counters. Unless they make a mistake or give up a penalty Milan will have hard time scoring a goal the way they play.
Hopefully the other Italian teams do better so serie A can again get an extra UCL spot.
Good analysis👍
We will proceed with your suggestions and sell the entire team save for Pavlovic and Tammy Abraham next season.
Thank you! A lot of casuals looked at Morata and Abraham and blamed them for their lack of goals. You can’t do that when there isn’t a consistent creative outlet in the team.
Wrong. They miss a high number of chances, always have.
Maignan – 3. I mean, he lost the game for us. The outfield players, as terrible as most were, still held the game 0-0 if not for Maignan’s howler. And then he was also saved by the crossbar when entirely beaten.
Walker – 4.5. His worst game for Milan so far. Most times, Igor Paixão ate him alive.
Thiaw – 6.5. Decent, gets a pass for the defensive work and a bit more for the pass to Rafa (which the latter did not take advantage of). Didn’t make mistakes.
Pavlovic – 7. MOTM for Milan. The only player who actually played almost consistently well with only a couple of errors. He prevented 3 goals and kept the score 0-1 which gives us a chance at San Siro (if we improve a lot from this horrible performance).
Theo – 5. Did not reproduce his last few good showings, despite the pink hair, LOL. Ineffective when trying to help the offense. Had one good ball, the free kick aimed at Camarda.
Reijnders – 5. Missed an opportunity at 3 minutes that could have changed the game, shooting at the goalkeeper. Had another good attempt in second half, but too high. Otherwise, did little.
Fofana – 5.5. Did win some balls, had his usual horrible finishing trying to hit a high flying bird that was flying over the stadium.
Pulisic – 4.5. One of his most forgetful games for Milan in his entire tenure. Away from action, basically didn’t do anything which is atypical for him. Correctly subbed out.
João Felix – 6.5. I do give him a bit more than a pass because he was the only Milan player who had two decent attempts on goal, both saved by the goalkeeper. Felix was the only player whose attempts were not a score thanks to the goalkeeper’s skills, rather than thanks to the player’s shortcomings. Also, he tried hard and was our only player with intensity. Not always effective but he deserves a pass for effort and 0.5 more for the two valid attempts. Nobody else had anything close to a good attempt.
Gimenez – 4. Did he even play? Completely missing in action. Didn’t seem to really want to beat his old team and his friends.
Rafael Leão – 3.5. His worst game of the season. Everything he did was mistaken. I only give him 0.5 more than the worst player, Mike Maignan, because at least he didn’t cause the opponent’s goal that decreed our defeat. He had a golden opportunity to score 1 v 1 against the goalkeeper but allowed the defender to annul it. He also tried to earn a PK by dragging his foot behind and the defender collided with his foot. I think the ref was correct in not awarding the PK. I wish Rafa had tried to score rather than trying to earn a PK.
Subs
Tomori – 6. Entered the game well, did win a couple of duels. Deserves a pass.
Chuk – 5.5. Helped the defense, had one valid attempt that the goalkeeper stopped although he shot right at the keeper. Not more than a pass because in offense he was ineffective.
Camarda – 5. Wasted a good opportunity on Theo’s free kick by positioning himself offside and anyway heading it too high. We love the kid but we have to acknowledge that he is not ready for prim time. Every time he played for the first team this season, he did nothing.
Abraham – 4.5. I can’t say he was any better than Gimenez but at least seemed to try a bit while Gimenez, not even, so I give him half a point above Gimenez.
Mister Conceição – 4. Didn’t seem to have any solution for this terrible performance although it’s a bit unfair because he wasn’t responsible for Mike’s howler. Still, he took too long to sub. He brought in Tomori which had an equivalent performance to Thiaw’s so no impact from that substitution, and Chuk who did do a decent job, but then he made only two other subs at 81 minutes; could have subbed out Rafa earlier as Rafa was clearly having his worst game of the season. I also don’t understand why he kept Puli playing so low.
———
Overall it’s hard to say if we did worse tonight or in Zagreb. If we don’t dramatically improve and get eliminated from the Champions League next week, it may be deserved because we do not look like a Champions League-level team.
Was Walker bad?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Oh this is too good.
Yes, Walker had several good games in a row, and one bad game today; it happens. Your idol Calabria, though, was the other way around. One good game and several bad games. Walker is a CLEAR upgrade over Calabria, and NOBODY who understands football doubts it. But no player can have a good game 100% of the time, not even Messi or Maradona, so it’s really lowly of you to pounce on Walker just because he had the atypical bad game tonight. You’re just mad at him because he replaced Calabria. It’s not Walker’s fault that Calabria had been so bad and we needed an upgrade for the RB position (which Emerson is not, but Walker is).
And your xenophobia against the English is noted, and looks bad on you. I couldn’t care less for a player’s nationality. This is club football, not national team football. I will root passionately for the Italians when the Squadra Azzurra is playing, but for AC Milan, I want the best players we can afford (and we can’t afford the top ones like Real Madrid, Manchester City, etc., can) regardless of their nationality.
———
Correction, I said of Chuk “no more than a pass” when I should have said “doesn’t get a pass” as I rated him 5.5 which is below a pass.
Idol???
Ha ha.
Just basic requirements for supporting an actual team.
But enjoy the slide down the table and out of the champions league as you search for the elusive missing part (hint it’s the midfield).
It’s not xenophobia to expect an Italian team to have an Italian players. Just a basic requirement of most consumer laws.
Am I xenophobic for expecting Parma Ham to come from Parma???
How come every other Italian team manages it?
In fact many of the teams above ‘AC Milan’ have former players who are Italian!
Including Bologna who are level there’s nearly an entire starting 11 of former Italians now playing for clubs who are better (the table doesn’t lie) than this so called ‘AC Milan’ team:
Calabria Acerbi Romagnoli Darmian
Bellanova Bresciannini Locatelli Pobega Maldini
Just need a striker!
Yes, idol. Who do you think you are fooling? Your predilection for Calabria is well-known to all regulars here, and you’ve been extensively criticized for it. You are blind to the fact that Calabria hadn’t been good for a long time. You kept going on and on about him winning a Scudetto and being the captain. In your opinion, whoever wins a Scudetto with us should keep playing for our first team forever and ever regardless of decline. You’d want them to play until geriatric age. You don’t seem to understand that many of the Scudetto-winning players did decline and were correctly shipped out.
Basic requirements for supporting a team? Since when is it required to focus on a player’s nationality to support CLUB football? Again, I’m Italian, and I support our national team, but AC Milan is a CLUB and we hire players from all over the world.
Your example of Parma ham is ridiculous. We don’t eat our players. They are supposed to play football, not to be cooked for cannibals. Yes, products that are D.O.P. are staples of Italian cuisine, but for club football, no D.O.P. applies to players.
We do have several Italians. Gabbia, Terracciano, Camarda, Bartesaghi, Sportiello, Torriani, the unfortunately injured Florenzi, and several kids like Liberali, Zeroli (currently on loan for development) and so on. However it’s an issue of quality. Of all of the above, only Gabbia (and Florenzi when healthy) can be said to be consistently first team material. If we had more Italians able to play for the first team, they’d be playing. We just purchased another Italian this winter market, Riccardo Sottil.
Lesser teams have more Italians simply because they can’t afford the best foreign players. If they could, they’d hire foreigners, too.
I merely showed my admiration for a player who over an extended period of time delivered for the club based on actual league table performance and actual results in the champions league.
Meanwhile others preferred to insult players who had actually delivered and show their appreciation for players who had never delivered, and actually overseen the decline of the club.
But I guess it’s more of a ‘vibe’ thing.
Good to know that football is the only ‘product’ that can mislead the public about the country of origin of its ingredients.
Keep enjoying whatever random selection of players the algorithm and back handers throw up, oh and those Italians you mentioned haven’t got a future at the club as evidenced by the current lack of Italians at the club or players with any connection beyond about 5 minutes ago.
I’ve missed your comments the past few weeks. Have you been to busy watching Locatelli and Cutrone?
I switched sports to rugby union just in time for the 6 nations!
🤣
gold!
hahaha that’s harsh and you forgot the GOAT Tristante
so are you celebrating this defeat?
He’s mad most of Scudetto players especially Calabria are gone. He has been upset by most things the club has done recently so he’s here to do victory laps.
I am only too aware.
Yes.
What exactly is keeping you supporting this mid-table Serie A team?
‘Brand loyalty’ because the club happens to be called ‘AC Milan’?
I bet you think the Republicans are still a ‘conservative’ party because of the name too.
Just wondering if you have officially transferred to “not a real Milan fan”?
Which you have accused so many of for criticising certain players in the past.
Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to see more Italians in the team and think that it is hurting us too.
But I’m not going to dump my favourite team (that I have been following since the late 90s) in a dummy spit.
I am hopeful that they are seeing the error of their ways and the next wave of under 21 players coming from the academy will be better supported.
Your just a milan fan who’s hurting otherwise what are you still doing here? To be honest, you sound more like a troll these days. If your done with milan and no longer support them, then why come here and make the rest of the fans angry? You love that milan are in the position they are and that certain players are playing bad because you support….. Calabria? Get real, Calabria and others you used to adore like krunic have NEVER been good.
Wow are you the real Maldinis Heir? The guy I learned quite a bit from?
Now you’re a troll?
The Republican thing is just dumb. Over time the political parties have ebbed and risen w.r.t. conservative and liberal thought and deed.
Deep breath man. Please come back thoughtful and on point if sometimes a bit strident.
I’m not sure how any of those hanging around could be described as ‘true Milan fans’ when they didn’t standby the players who brought them success.
It’s like declaring your love to everyone you meet on Tinder.
You’ve got to question the sincerity of the feeling.
Still better than Calabria on his best day.
Must be why Milan consistently competed for the top 4 with him consistently in the starting 11.
But there’s me living in the past aka pointing out recorded historical facts.
In gimenez’s defence, he is a striker. A striker lives off service. If they don’t get that service they are anonymous. It doesn’t matter who the striker is whether it was halaand, Abraham, inzaghi. They need service and if they miss their chances then they can be blamed. Gimenez today didn’t even get a ball in the box or was even able to make a movement to meet a cross because the service from leao and pulisic was non existent
You have a point that our midfield and wingers were not serving our striker tonight, but the best strikers move around and position themselves in places where they are likely to get service. They are dynamic and they disorient the defenders without the ball, and they are not exempt from going after the ball and creating their own opportunities even when service is insufficient.
Gimenez tonight did absolutely nothing. He was anonymous, not dynamic, didn’t move much, didn’t go after balls, didn’t position himself to receive any service.
Given that he played a lot better his first two games for Milan, I think maybe he suffered some psychological block, playing against his former club and against his former teammates/friends and against the crowd of supporters that always loved him, and even applauded him tonight.
Also, maybe the fact that his former companions know him so well, helped them in marking him.
But I won’t exempt him from responsibility for his bad game just because of lack of service. It becomes too convenient an excuse.
Ya and Morata used to position himself at half just to touch the ball and he was overwhelming to say the least. If you look at the very rare times we attacked he makes the runs without the service. Someone like gimenez is like giroud. His magic comes with service inside the 18. It’s not his job to track back or to drop deep. The only thing I’ll criticize him for tonight was that he never pressed aggressively when the defence or goalie had the ball
Gimenez played a lot better in the first few games because it was more open. Roma was trying to get a comeback and Empoli was doing to 10 men like Milan.
When a team is compact, he will struggle to assert himself
No midfield today. The fantastic four may give way to a terrific 3 with the return of a third midfielder.
We had no one (other than Pulisic) who were effective at shuttling the ball from midfield deep into territory. Heck, Pavlovic was our best penetrator with the ball today.
Our outside backs were brutalized as well. We need one of the midfield signings back on the field or Musah and sit João or Leao for the return game. Leao the likely candidate to start on the bench.
Leao should only be a sub on this team. He’s a rhythm killer.
Having watched Conceiçao Porto and Milan, watched Fonseca Lille, Milan and Lyon. I can proudly say, Fonseca is much better than him. Y’all will quickly realize Fonseca is the best coach we’ve had since Ancelotti. The guy was up to something with the team we gave him. All we needed was to be patient with him but you fans wanted a new Pioli. Back passes and long balls and letting players be lazy af. Fonseca knew Theo and Leao was lazy af but y’all condemned him for pointing out the obvious and trying to fix it. He was on to something but yall didn’t wanna be patient. Smh
I’ve not seen us play this horrible consistently for a while now. Smh
Dude, he wasn’t Hercule Poirot, he wasn’t hired to find out what our problems are and call them out. He was hired to solve them. And it was an incredibly bad hire that influences the season to this day, because Conceicao is a much better coach than him, but it hardly matters anymore. The children are spoiled after Maldini was fired and sadly, most of the players don’t listen to any instructions, let alone to a passionate coach like Sergio who probably doesn’t hold back.
A little context. Last I checked we’re 7th, tied on points with the 8th placed team, so, we haven’t improved that much. Conceicao’s PPM (points per match) is currently 1.92 (7-2-3, 23 pts, 12 matches). Fonseca had a PPM of 1.75 (12-6-6, 42 pts, 24 matches) when he left. If Conceicao loses the next match, his PPM drops down to 1.77. He’s one loss away from an almost identical output to Fonseca.
This is the truth. Be prepared to be attacked for speaking it. Fonseca tactically is far superior to Conceicao. He just needed a little more time and a few more players but management didn’t have the courage to stick with him and caved in to the idiot fans. We wouldn’t even be playing in this stupid playoff as Fonseca had us in good position to finish top 8 which Conceicao quickly threw away.
We never looked this bad under Fonseca, and Conceicao has never come close to the good performances under Fonseca, most notably when we outplayed Real Madrid and Inter.
Conceicao has no ideas, the team has no movement, no passing. Just ugly unwatchable football.
“caved in to the idiot fans” and the overrated divas who conspired to sabotage the new coach and Milan season.
Different coach but those 2 are still the same bums.
“He just needed a little more time”
Needed more time to do what exactly ?
Get us 9th ? 10th ?
We’re currently trash under Conceição but the results aren’t exactly different. Let’s not pretend we were doing anything good or were going anywhere under Fonseca, please.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 it’s like arguing for better garbage
I think the worst thing was our inability to connect our mid with the attack. Fofana just too many bad passes. That slows down our play and makes us flat.
PS. Turns out its not easy to defend one on one on the wings. For all the experts who were critisizing Calabria all the time.
Please let common sense prevail. Field a 433. We don’t have the right personnel for a 442 or whatever we were attempting tonight.
Put two defensive midfielders alongside Reijnders and play with three up top. Always start with the Dutchman behind the striker, he’s been the best player all season. Felix needs to prove his worth and earn a starting spot over Tiji.
And for crying out loud, stop looking so pathetic every first half of every game.
Pulisic has been our best player all season. He scores more, creates more and (other than tonight) always puts in a shift.
I’m not sure where this Reinjders is the best narrative is coming from.
Reinjders does appear to have a higher ceiling than Puli but if he is always exhausted we will never know.
Look at his numbers for one. Chris is a great player and works tirelessly. I’m not trying to criticize him. But between Tiji’s vertical runs from the deep and the finishing, I think he edges Chris out so far.
The main problem is that Reijnders is being misused. He should not play in a midfield with 2, as he does not have the characteristics for that.
He has scored a big number of goals for a midfielder, but, if you see the stats, almost all his goals come when he plays in a 4-3-3 formation or as a CAM. Imagine what he could achieve if he was deployed that way in every game.
Idk if Sergio looks at the stats to take advantage of his best players’ abilities and fit tactics with his players’ needs, or does he aim to impose his “vision” on the team.
I have to disagree here. Chris is comfortably our best player. Reijnders doesn’t have any good game under Conceição and even under Fonseca his good performances were few and far inbetween.
Reijnders works tiressly and runs a lot every game in addition to be our best goalscorer if we don’t include penalties, but from a pure midfield point of view his game is a bit lacking. His through balls and line breaking passes are lacking, and in this department Pulisic is actually the best. He doesn’t control the game the way we want a playmaker to do so and his defensive game is poor.
For Pulisic, I won’t say he is flawless but even in worst games he does something and is more accurate than the other winger. His problem is mainly that his teammates mis-use him sometimes, ignoring him when he is a in a good position or pass to him where he is in no good position but you can also say that he lacks the tricks and acceleration to often beat defenders and set up crosses or shots. I don’t say he doesn’t dribble, he does, but he sometimes struggle against lowblock teams.
I agree that Pulisic overall is playing better than Reijnders. He is more mature and consistent.
Haven’t posted or watched this Chelsea/England B Team masquerading as AC Milan in a while but all I can say is ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
Lucky only one Italian (a 16 year old sub brought on in the last 10 mins to further damage thank you his progress) were tarred by this result.
You are a true fan I see. Guess them shipping the not good anymore Calabria did a number on you.
Yep true fans like you who insult players who played for the club for 10 years and delivered a Scudetto.
I’m genuinely lost as to what you get from supporting a mid table Serie A team with no identity or purpose.
It’s just sports to me. I’m ok if Milan struggles and makes bad decisions. I’m not insulting Calabria when I say he hasn’t been good for a couple years. It’s just an observable fact. I don’t dislike him.
How is it an ‘observable fact’ when Milan finished in the top 2 in 3/4 of those seasons, and since he’s been dropped they’ve fallen to joint 7?
Apparently Milan both managed to achieve great things without a RB but now their fall from grace has nothing to do with said RB (and everyone else who achieved those things) being frozen out or sacked.
Meanwhile all of those wonderfully superior players dragging Milan down to 7th are clearly far superior because….’observable facts’.
I’ve watched every game the last 2 years. Calabria wasn’t good. Sorry.
What are you ten years old? If you stop supporting the team, then stop. Why repeat this announcement every week? Are you that lacking in attention? There are much better ways to treat this you know.
Leao is trash. Subpar, get rid of him.
Pulisic started off with a good game but everything going down the left is keeping him somewhat isolated, he constantly makes runs forward and is expected to help Walker on 1v1’s, that’s just too much ground to cover. His legs were jello probably before halftime, not a good game from him, but like I said having to come back so deep to help, by the 55 minute he had just one speed he could not accelerate anymore, smart for Fonseca to take him off. Nothing went Milan’s way tonight, every second ball would go to a feyenord player, so many bad passes, so many attempts of simulation, midfield didn’t exist, why was there a man open out wide on the right hand side, Pulisic would press and somebody else wasn’t doing their job, or don’t have pulisic go forward, actually felt sorry for him today, makes you really notice Musah’s difference. Felix good hustle, he dropped back more then Rafa, this game was so tactically screwed, Gimenez was poor, the fan four was poor
RIGHT ON NATORIAN !!!!!! LEGS WERE JELLO BECAUSE OF ALL THAT DEFENSIVE WORK (and playing in that weather didn t help ) I also agreed with the subbing off….
Almost exactly my take on the game.
Meant Conceicao not Fonseca
They did play the same way as under Fonseca tho, Freudian slip i guess lol
Both Atalanta and Milan got defeated, the evil side of me is happy.
I did not watch the game, but:
Pavlovic -> he is young and in his first season, so can improve his issues. The talent is there. He can become a quality left-back too.
Theo-> too many ups and down. Should be sold. Pavlovic could be used to replace him
Fofana-> what did you expect? Had you seen him at Monaco or with France at the Euros? His strength is running; don’t rely much on his passing. He can be useful with 3 midfielders, not so when he has to “control” the game by himself.
Reijnders-> he needs to learn to be consistent
Pulisic-> don’t blame him, everyone has bad games once in a while
Gimenez-> he can score goals (~20 league goals/season), but he relies on good service; he is not an all-round striker who can do a lot of linkup play, go deep, get the ball and create chances against well-defended teams. Some top teams took a look at him and decided to not sign him. The reason is obvious.
Sergio-> he is probably too aggressive for Milan’s players. Maybe he should stop yelling all the time.
You-> are hopeless. Maybe you should stop coming here and wasting your time as well as ours. Literally no one cares what you have to say.
You care enough to reply. And his takes are more objective than many of the geniuses’ on here…
Move on.
If you find his takes objective then I guess you must be one of those geniuses you’re mentioning.
Jog on now.
Pavlović played alone , i rate him – 8
Everyone else – 2
Is there any coach in the world that Leao and Theo wouldn’t try to get fired?
Pioli.
He was their coach for 4 years seemingly without any issue.
I’m not sure the phrase:
‘Be careful what you wish for’
quite does these brand followers (‘brand follower’ is my new term for ‘fans who support a hollow shell of a brand v a football club) justice.
More:
‘You deserve everything you get you bunch of disloyal, greedy, and misguided fools’
You do realize that Pioli admitted in the press that he had lost the team right?
Dude was a class act. He wasn’t perfect and ultimately by his own words he was done.
But don’t let that stop you from enjoying an evening off your meds.
Enjoy that Como brand. Maybe Theo will agree to play there now that he knows your a fan?
He lost the team because the management undermined him.
All of the problems start and end with the management.
Until they go I won’t be back.
If anything Pioli had more of a say under Cardinal than Elliot. Remember they were about to sign a coach on while in the middle of season.
Your GOD Maldini wanted to fire him but got fired first. Where do you get your information from? You don’t know what you’re talking about clearly.
The same management that supported him over Maldini?
Can Pioli come and take Theo and Leao with him to Arabia?
That be the best thing he has ever done for Milan.
Like I feared, Joao Felix is in Pulisic’s way. He’s making runs into spaces CP usually occupies, but he doesn’t do it as well. He’s not a bad player by any means, but if he limits the touches of the most effective offensive players it’s not good for the team.
I thought the same thing. I didn’t like the loan. The biggest difference is João can’t finish but Pulisic can.
Not sure where you are getting that Felix can’t finish. He scored his first game with us, almost scored in his second game, and had the two best shots of the game today, which weren’t scores due to the goalkeeper’s merit rather than to Felix’s shortcoming. Actually João had the only two good attempts for Milan today that were on target and well placed.
But yes, I don’t think he is as good as Puli, and Conceição must work on how to get them to work together rather than to run into each other. That’s on the head coach.
Read this article. I thought it was well known that João was a bad crosser of the ball and finishing isn’t good either. https://sempremilan.com/joao-felix-insight-scouting-report-stats-transfer-rating/amp
I thought everyone knew the knocks on João is he isn’t a good crosser or finisher especially in front of goal. Even this website broke his game down and mentioned that. To each their own.
I’m not sure Conceicao is the long term answer. In the end we’ll have to wait until the end of the season, but I’m just not sure. We need to purge the lazy players, beginning with Theo and Leao, and then maybe a fresh start at coach. We need more Italian players, we need an Italian coach. Not sure who at this point, as many good Italian coaches just moved this past summer and will only have a year in their current clubs. Maybe Farioli and De Zerbi can still be convinced? Maybe Pippo deserves a second chance now that he’s much more experienced and well on his way to his second promotion from Serie B, and having taken other clubs into the promotion places.
BTW, it’s mind boggling that we did not seem to consider Farioli or Maresca for the position last summer.
I hope Carlo comes back.
Those who say Walker did bad should watch the game again and notice that our 4 strikers didn’t really track back and Walker constantly had 2 players on his side against him. Yes, he lost some duels against very fast opponent but it’s not easy to defend two players at the same time. With that said, Walker did not allow anyone to score so he did his job. The entire team, aside from Pav was pretty bad. The coach got the formation wrong – there is zero consistency and players look confused and lazy. Leao is a waste of space on the field, Theo cares more about his hair than he does about Milan. Maignan absolutely terrible – he should not be making such mistakes at this level and this is not the first time. Overall, Milan player as expected – lazy, uninspired and slow. They perhaps thought it wasn’t important to win today since they got another game next week – same attitude as they had against Dinamo.
As for Gimenez, he is a striker that needs service and he had none today. Someone posted here that he did not get into right positions to be effective but I challenge you to show me one good ball that was sent into the box from Milan players – newsflash, there was none. We can’t even deliver a good corner kick, not to mention that no one on the entire team can score from a free kick.
Nothing less expected when your vice captain has audacity to run on the pitch with his hair dyed in pink. Rest In Peace, Silvio. Bring back Galliani.
I knew it was over when I saw the weather, Mike let another one in at the near post, and Reijnders missed that early shot.
These reasons are always such a joke. First off, why isn’t coach rated? Starting team selection was OK. Obvious what he was trying to do, but not effective. Midfield wasn’t strong enough. Leao, why is he still starting? Gimenez, what was that? Not a lot of touches but that can be the life of a true striker and his job is to convert. He failed big and ahould have been brought off at the half. Felix dances too much, misses passing opportunities, tales awful corners, and his shots are weak and straight at the keeper almost every time. Everyone gave the ball away too easily with poor passing. Puli is constantly the player to have a single brilliant moment. Yes he wasn’t present much in the attack, but his work rate is high, the midfield needed his help, and he wasn’t getting service. You don’t take out your hardest working player who constantly is saving the day. Take out Felix or Leao instead. Maignan, buddy needs to work near post extra practice sessions. He has let in way too many at his near post way too easily. I get it was wet, but not an excuse at all on this shot. The subs were ineffective too unfortunately. Coach has a lot of work to do both in the locker room, training pitch, and with his assistants on the playbook.
A huge mistake playing all new players and exposing the back. Say what you want but this should have been played safe with Felix on the bench and 2 defensive mids not only Fofana alone. Playing all same time made us have 0 impact players on the bench.
I believe this club will never play a different brand of football with Leao and Theos uninspired, low football iq, individualistic playing style, low intensity… etc. We won’t be able to name a single footballer like them in a team with good free flowing attacking football.
I’m not going to defend most of the team, because they were outplayed, other than Pavlovic, and Magic Mike conceded a HOWLER of a goal that my wife could have saved.
All that said, reading the comments is like going to “pearl clutchers anonymous” for a review of the match. As almost ALWAYS happens, our opponents were playing for their professional lives under a new coach, and played much harder than usual. Yes, 100%, they outplayed us today. The good news is that they only beat us, 1-0, and the “new manager effect” probably won’t be in effect by next week, when we play them in our house.
This is still a VERY winnable tie. RELAX!
Best regards to all.
Fofana was unbelievably bad. How can a player of his physique can be robbed off balls multiple times. Pirlo was never fast but he turns players inside out. Milan played superbad, make Feyenood look like a superteam.
All is clear … and pinky
Leao is very much uninterested in playing or playing for Milan.
He is the second biggest waste of talents after Neymar.
Leao is very lazy and his attitudes rubs off on the team, especially Theo.
Leao should go do music or porn, whatever.
Conceicao’s mistake was starting with Gimenez. Simple psychology, he is well known by his former teammates, they know how to stop him and they are motivated.
Should have started with Abraham.
I agree on all accounts!
Our left side, the highest paid and a wannabe highest paid one are the worst player of the night …no creation nor spirit to bombard from wing…., if milan ready to cash them next summer then i would agree
Ok LBH, it’s raining, it’s slippery, it’s cold outside, it’s not in a good mood, it’s away game and far away stadium, got boo’d from spectators, what else did we have? At least they tried, it’s not easy to play such game in this condition. We have new coach and new players weren’t tied and worked seamlessly, we have to make goal in San Siro, period, ffs, and see you on the next match.
Conceciao hasn’t been that good to be honest. Seems to get his tactics and starting 11 wrong every game. Even during the Coppa Milan had to make two big comebacks to win. I think we look WORSE overall since he was hired. Why can’t we play a good first half? I don’t get it. Hopefully he can turn it around. My main two thoughts are Pulisic needs to be played higher up the pitch so he can be more effective and Leao needs to be a sub for awhile until he starts performing because he hasn’t played well since the Coppa final and today he was horrendous. This team has some quality players but as a TEAM they have no cohesion and no fight. Individuals are fighting hard(puli, Reijnders, Walker, Pav etc) but not as a team. Hopefully that’ll change at some point.
Milan running like headless chicken this season.
Fonseca and Concaecao are like Milan level coaches. Milan needs an experienced coach, Pioli was not great but he was good, Milan needs a proper Team Manager. Not a manager who fights with his own players.
There are no obvious candidates. Sarri isn’t a winner. An up and coming coach like Iraola would be ideal.
No no no everyone deserves a -2 except for pavlovic. And leao give that man his number 17 back! Maybe zlatan was right and certain numbers are an curse for certain players that’s why he didn’t want to wear the 9. And i hope for him that it is the curse seasons back leao was the 100mil player and now some 10mil player outplayed him our players where crying for penalties like they can’t create chances on their own. For the first time in my life i was ashamed to support milan that is how bad and painful it was to watch the game!
Agree with a few commenters that Pulisic wasn’t used enough. Give him the ball when he shows and he usually creates opportunities.
He’s unselfish and I believe he still could have created chances if he wasn’t taken off.
The “Fantastic Four”, 😭😭😭
Pulisic in first half put himself in great positions but he is teammates either held the ball or looked the other way. Hard to explain but seems like a regular occurrence
Agree. Pulisic probably had the moat miles on the pitch when subbed.
I disagreed with the sub but in retrospect he was gassed. He’s playing at both ends and not getting rewarded for the effort
I said it the other day when Vogel commented about the club, when Theo shows up with that pink hair then we know all is lost, these guys aren’t focused
Our only creative players on the pitch were Pavlovic and Felix. I’m beginning to feel that we need Felix more than Theao. As for Fofana, the intelligence is just not there…I lost count of the many wayward passes. Leao just never gave us that pressing help up front…his laziness is there for all to see…very poor interpretation of the game by most players tonight.
Did you even watch the game??
Maignan 4 – Stupid mistake.
Walker 3 – Ran over and lost too many balls.
Thiaw 5 – Nothing special.
Pavlovic 5.5 – Points for effort, but not the right guy in possession.
Theo 2 – No defense, no offense, slowed down the play.
Rijnders 4 – Fofana 4 – We had no midfield.
Pulisic 4 – Did nothing.
Felix 4.5 – Half a point for trying.
Leão 2 – Didn’t want to be there today.
Santi 2 – Didn’t want to play against his old team.
Coach 1 – No structure, no idea, no strategy at all.
Lost 90 minutes of my life tonight that I’ll never get back.
Have you ever given these bad ratings to pioli or fonseca.
I am glad Fonzy left, he should’ve never been hired in the first place. He along with this cheap ownership and incompetent management is the reason we are struggling this season and are sitting our of CL spots.
But something must be said – under Fonzy we at least saw players like Puli, Reijnders and Fofana perform well. This cannot be said with Sergio. And we cannot blame tiredness anymore. Players don’t seem to follow him and they are running around like headless chickens.
I don’t want anymore overhauls and interruptions because more than anything else we need consistency but right now I don’t see Sergio past this summer. There must be serious questions raised over Theo and Leao too. They cannot continue this way. They’re just too toxic this season.
Maignan, Gabbia, Thiaw, Pavlo, Walker, Reijnders, Fofana, Puli, Gimenez, Camarda. Build on and around them.
The thing about hiring Fonsy is knowing he’s garbage in Serie A and still hired him. If we started out with Sergio first then it would make sense in terms of a calculated gamble but now we have wrecked it both ways. Sergio doesn’t have a preseason, wasn’t bright enough to take a longer deal …a 6 month audition really…and we wasted a whole half a season with Fonseca. Right now we just have a more rugged Fonseca but like you said, at least a few players were shining. We’re still waiting on players to shine under Sarge (but this goes with the no preseason and a bunch of new players recently). Both aren’t cut out imo
The most depressing fact from yesterday:
Our MOTM Pavlovic was way more effective in the attacking zone than our wingers. Let that sink in. You know it’s true.
Gimenez is absolutely useless without service. He got nothing and gave nothing. Looked slow and clumsy. And nervous. He’ll do better next week.
I’m actually surprised no one here has suggested selling Leao and buying Paixao to replace him. Looks like an upgrade to me.
Pavlovic man of the match. Hahahahahahaha. He was due a red card but the offside saved him. 3rd time this season. He won’t be lucky forever and then those reds and penalties will flash into your eyes every few weeks.
Red card for a slight shirt pull??? FFS, you clearly don’t know anything about football, now do you? 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Leao is useless.
Paixiao practically showed him how a winger should perform.
AC Milan should sell that inconsistent winger and buy a better player like mitoma
You always make me smile
When I’m feeling down
You give me such a vibe
It’s totally bonified, ggh
I don’t know if this same person who does the raring watches the same match or without bias.
How was Pulisic a 6
What’s the comment with Tomori, did absolutely great when needed.
I agree, when he plays good he has him as 6. Today he was non-impactful and he has a 6. Go figure.
I found this game to be even. Both sides had great chances, tempo was high and great action, great for neutrals. However hen you think about the comparative quality it shouldn’t be this close.
It was decided by a mistake by our GK and at this level that’s all it takes. Said a couple years ago, keep Tonali, sell Mike for the same amount if not more and get De Gea on the free (would have been in line with Moneyball and all). You get a better shot stopper and keep your midfielders in tact. Not everyone will agree but oh well.
Fofana should never ever shoot again. Like ever.!! If he’s through on goal by himself in the 6 yard box with no keeper and just him, he should just wait for his teammates to arrive and pass the ball so they can shoot instead. That’s how bad he is. Never seen someone who blazes high and wide like him and I’ve seen Anderson play for man Utd.
There was a moment in the game where I had to have concluded that Theo has lost his ability to defend. Then later into the game makes this remarkable goal saving interception. I have no clue how to as.sess this guy anymore. He can be brilliant but he’s clearly not motivated to be so for 90 minutes.
Didn’t understand the Tomori Thiaw sub. Is the player good for a whole game or not? Tomori was decent but it wasn’t like Thiaw was struggling (unless this was due to his first game back, but when you’re chasing the game…). I seriously thought we’d go to a back 3/5 with 3 CBs and Theo and Walker to give width. Would have liked to see that.
Two coaches this season , both not up to scratch. I get Sarge didn’t have a preseason but he has to be showing more by now (granted this game was conditioned by that early terrible blunder by Mike….I guess if we can make excuses for individual mistakes under Fonsy we can do that for Sarge right? 😅). As I’ve said before in a past article (so ppl don’t jump me as if in saying this for the first time), stick coaches vs carrot players. Either get a carrot coach or get rid of the carrot players. And the level is not good enough….poor decisions ultimately by management.
Maybe should have saved this for 5 things we’ve learnt but I didn’t realize pink socks and grey kit were a thing.
Tie is far from over and we can handle them at the San Siro
