A number of AC Milan players underperformance during the defeat to Feyenoord last night and have been criticised accordingly by the Italian media.
Milan were beaten by a side that had a caretaker manager in charge and not only that but they failed to score, despite all of the attention in the build-up to the game regarding the ‘Fantastic Four’ attacking quartet.
The only goal of the game came in the opening few minutes and it was largely a Mike Maignan error as he could only parry Igor Paixao’s shot from range inside his near post.
The ratings from the papers
Starting with La Gazzetta dello Sport, they have given Milan’s overall performance and Sergio Conceicao’s management of the game a 5 out of 10. The ultra-attacking line-up chosen did not work, and the Rossoneri were overrun by Feyenoord in the first half.
The best player for Milan was Youssouf Fofana who got a 6, while Maignan as mentioned was at fault for the goal and therefore he got the lowest score of a 4.
Rafael Leao was nowhere near effective enough and failed to take advantage of a 1v1, getting a 4.5, while Kyle Walker, Theo Hernandez, Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez got a 5.
Malick Thiaw, Tijjani Reijnders, Joao Felix and the substitute Samuel Chukwueze were awarded a 5.5. Strahinja Pavlovic and Fikayo Tomori were the only others in addition to Fofana to get a passing grade.
Corriere dello Sport also gave Conceicao a 5 and Maignan a 4. Their only scores of 6 went to Tomori and Pavlovic too. Walker, Fofana, Pulisic, Joao Felix and Gimenez were given a 5, while Thiaw, Theo, Reijnders, Leao and Chukwueze got half a mark more.

Tuttosport gave Maignan a rating of 4, while branding the four forward players as ghosts: Leao (4.5), Joao Felix (4.5), Gimenez (4.5) and Pulisic who came close to getting a passing score.
The disappointing performances of Theo Hernandez (5) are no longer a surprise, as are the positive ones of Strahinja Pavlovic, the only player to score a 6.
Fofana best player?….th guy is a liability at the moment.. looks like a tired old man….
Fofana is not a good player for us.
Musah is better than him and four years younger. Still, Musah is not good enough either.
We need a new Kessie type player to shield the back four. An older Kante would be best but I guess he is on an insane salary and have to be bought out. So we need to scout better.
Terrible take imo.
Musah is weaker and less consistent than Fofana, and Kante is a box to box player??? Always has been lol.
So many bad passes …
Can’t agree more, but I think what’s confusing the tactics is the interchangeable of positions that happens in open play. At some point u hardly see who is playing where. Anyway we have a long way to go as a team. Still hoping for a better Milan
