Strugglers rescued by decisive trio: Player ratings for Genoa-Milan from Italian papers

AC Milan took a big step towards booking their place in next season’s Champions League by beating Genoa on Sunday.

The first half performance suggested it was going to be another rough afternoon for the Rossoneri, who sat outside the top four in the live table after 45 minutes. However, a Christopher Nkunku penalty and a Zachary Athekame strike would be enough to secure a massive three points.

It means that a win against Cagliari in the final game will be enough to lock in third place, but it could well be a victory that is needed depending on the results of Roma, Juventus and Como.

Genoa 1-2 AC Milan: Ratings from the papers

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport has their ratings from the game, starting with the team’s overall performance which got a 6.5 out of 10. Massimiliano Allegri’s management of the match scored a passing grade of 6.

The most impressive player on the park was Nkunku, getting a 6.5. Mike Maignan, Strahinja Pavlovic, the other scorer Athekame and Christian Pulisic were all given the same score for their part in the victory.

Matteo Gabbia, Samuele Ricci, Ardon Jashari, Adrien Rabiot, Davide Bartesaghi and Niclas Füllkrug were given a pass. Fikayo Tomori and Koni De Winter got 5.5, Youssouf Fofana a 5 and Santiago Gimenez a 4.5.

Corriere dello Sport also have ratings for us. They gave Maignan, Athekame, Nkunku and Allegri a 6.5. Everyone else got a pass except for Fofana, Bartesaghi and De Winter (5.5), plus Jashari and Gimenez (5).
