AC Milan failed to extend their winning run, but at least came away with a point from their away clash against Juventus. The Rossoneri had some good chances to win the game and that is reflected in the player ratings below.

Starting XI
Maignan (7.5): There were large parts of the game when the goalkeeper didn’t have much to do, and that made his spectacular save on Gatti in the second half even more impressive. He was quick to react and made himself as big as possible, keeping the ball out (might have been offside, but who cares!).
Tomori (6): He recovered just in time for the game, initially expected to miss it through injury, and he didn’t disappoint with a solid display. It wasn’t anything spectacular, let’s be clear, and Juve didn’t put him to the test that much.
Gabbia (7): If it hadn’t been for the final 20 minutes or so, the Italian would have got a 6.5. However, he made so many crucial interventions towards the end that the slightly higher rating his justified. It certainly boosted his confidence ahead of international duty with Italy.
Pavlovic (6.5): The Serbian was very similar to Tomori in terms of defensive output, doing what was required and not much more. That said, he also added a lot in attack (again) with his more advanced position and a great cross that Gimenez headed just wide.
Saelemaekers (6): While we didn’t see loads of him this evening, it’s hard to give him below average. Milan played more on their left and against a low defence, he was never going to shine in attack. He helped out well against Yildiz in defence, though, keeping the Juve star quiet.
Fofana (6): He was unlucky to get booked in the first half, but at least continued to apply pressure in the defence phase and found good positions in possession. Like many others, though, there wasn’t a whole lot from him that amazed me.
Modric (7.5 – MOTM): It was between him and Maignan for MOTM, but considering he played the pass that led to the penalty, and then set up Leao for the 1v1, it feels like the right call. Obviously, he was very involved in everything as Juve allowed him time on the ball (sitting back).
Rabiot (6): He adds a lot to the team in terms of strength and experience, there is no doubt about that, but his passing could have been a tad better in key moments tonight.
Bartesaghi (6): The first half was a bit shaky against Conceicao, but he picked things up in the second and managed to win some 1v1s in the end. It was never going to be an easy task, but he handled it well all things considered.
Gimenez (6.5): You could argue this was his best performance in the league this season. He first created a good chance after a nice run, even if the shot could have been better, and then headed a cross just wide. Finally, he won the penalty after a smart duel against Kelly.
Pulisic (4.5): After such a good start to the season, none of us expected us to miss the penalty, but he did. It was a golden opportunity for Milan to put a firm grip on the three points, so the No.11 has to take a lot of the blame here. He did well aside from it, but you just can’t afford those mistakes in such a high-stakes game.
Substitutes
Leao (4.5): We could highlight the first missed chance, firing a shot wide with his left foot from close range, but it was nothing compared to the second. After a fantastic run to beat the Juve defence, and an even better Modric pass, he somehow mistimed the ball and got a really poor shot away. That needed to be a goal and it was equivalent to Pulisic’s penalty miss, in my opinion.
Loftus-Cheek (5.5): Milan needs a spark in the midfield and while the Englishman started with a good move, he seemingly didn’t quite find his place. Backpasses and strange ‘now I’m going to continue to defend the ball without passing’ moments are what we saw.
Nkunku (5.5): Just like RLC, it was a substitution that more or less didn’t have an impact on the game. A few attempts to do something here and there, but not even close to enough.
How can you compare Leao’s miss to a missed penalty….common Isak
He had a perfect pass into his right foot that put him in pretty much a 1v1 he just had to put it either side of di gregorio. You expect a player of his calibre to put that away just like we expect santi(a striker) to score if he was in the same position.
Leao was too high or Pulisic too low. Leao was absolutely abysmal in this match as a CF. Pulisic does not deserve a 4.5, at least a 5 or 5.5. Rest of the scores are pretty much spot on, sometimes this site should be renamed to “The League of Pulisic haters”

I think in a tense match like this, the penalty should be taken by Modrich who has a very low chance for mistake.I still respect what Puli is doing but in terms of exposure, Modrich is always 3 steps ahead of all the players.I only have problem with Leo attitude not his miss chance as long as he grows up and knew exactly what it means to play for Milan and correct his mistakes
The lads defended well. That penalty left me gutted.

It all came down to the penalty. That happens. It happened to Baggio. Pulisic was good overall and deserves a higher rating.

I’ve supported the team for over 40 years.
There was a lot of bad weather in that period. In fact it was mostly bad weather apart from brief periods in the late 80s, early 90s and start of the 00s.
I’ve never turned on the players and rarely a manager which is the thing that actually matters.
Not coming on here demanding that players be sold for missing a chance.
I turned on the owners and the club last season over their treatment of the Scudetto winning players and manager. Most decent fans should’ve done the same out of a basic respect for what those people brought them.
But they stuck with the owners and turned on the manager and players who had given them everything..
That is absolutely unforgivable..
And in case you haven’t noticed the club now has a manager (a Scudetto winning manager for Milan who you’ve a had a go at), and it started with two Italians.
That gives hope. But I’m still not fully back in. I’m still not at the ‘we’ stage. Something broke for me last season and it’ll take time for me to get back.

Missed opportunity.
I count this as 2 lost points.
Milan was the better team with more chances to score but failed to convert.
Penalties are becoming a major issue. I don’t know when was the last time Milan scored one. That was terrible penalty by Pulisic.
Outside of missing chances, the team played well. Juventus only had 1 scoring chance and that came from a broken play. Great save by Maignan.
Saelemaekers and Tomori took Yildiz completely out of the game, while Bartesaghi and Pavlovic did alright vs Conceição.
Luka is great.
Gimenez was pretty good today. The only thing missing was the goal. I still don’t understand how Kelly didn’t even get a yellow for the penalty while Estupiñán got a red.
The subs were not good.
A top player scores at least 1 of those 2 chances, but thats why he isn’t a top player.
On to Fiorentina. Hopefully they don’t fire Pioli in the meantime. They can fire him after the next loss.
We should probably be a bit careful about Fiorentina, I feel like they’ll be super motivated against us considering Allegri didn’t fancy their chances to be a top 4 team this season. They’re plummeting so far but sometimes all it takes is one game.
Maybe I’m overly cautious but better too much than not enough.
Tactically wise, Allegri can’t be really blamed. We conceded a lot of shots but most of them didn’t really test the goalkeeper and our defenders were always in a good position to win duels and clear the ball. During the second half we were the better side and could (should !) have won.
I feel that the ratings are a bit harsh for the defenders. During the parts of the game where we were on the backfoot, Tomori, Gabbia and Pavlović did well to minimise the attacking threats. Bartesaghi was a bit shaky but overall did well and Saelemakers was good defensively but less good offensively.
I thought Fofana did well defensively and if it weren’t for the yellow card, would probably have played the full game.
You gotta feel bad for Modrić, all these chances created out of nothing and then nothing happens… He probably misses having Ronaldo upfront.
Giménez did create a good chance for himself in the first half, but other than that, nothing to be complimented for. Although he, at least, defends and takes part in the buildup.
Even aside the penalty, Pulišić wasn’t as good as he usually is, although he could have gotten an assist. A player isn’t a machine, so let’s hope it was just a bad day.
Subbing wise, I feel Allegri didn’t do that good of a job, although our lack of good depth is certainly not helpful.
I understand subbing out Fofana because of the card, but Loftus-Cheek simply didn’t bring anything.
Speaking of anything, the “star”, “Milan’s best player” also didn’t do anything. The whole point of brining Leão, the ONLY point of bringing him in, is that he creates offensive threats and score goals, but tonight the only difference between him and Giménez is that the latter was a team player. If he neither defends, nor creates and can’t score sitters, what is he doing on the pitch ?
Nkunku also didn’t do anything and I’m wondering why Pulišić had to be subbed out.
Overall this game left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I know we can’t win them all, but I was really betting on this one, especially considering how the second half went.
I will disagree with the subs. Allegri could not know that leao will play like he played. Both him and nkunku were good subs, like you just have to sub the attackers, subbing defenders is not a good idea, you risk too much, but you have to sub attackers, more when you have combined 100 million strikers on the bench. No matter how good pulisic can play, you just have to subb him for fresh legs, to posses threat inthe last minutes.
And to be honest, I was little bit relieved too, when instead of fofana there came loftus and not ricci. Loftus isnt a star or big gamechanger, but he does his job cleanly most of the time, he doesn’t do a lot of misstakes or put pressure on himself in big games. And in that time, we were not in need of gamechanger like ricci for example, we just needed reliable and composed fresh legs.
From my point of view, subs could not have been better, well done allegri.

We didn’t need Ricci I agree, since we were already dominating the game, but Loftus-Cheek didn’t bring anything going forward.

Well… If you wanted to kill Milan’s game by taking Pulisic off, mission accomplished. That sub did nothing good to the team. It ruined any chances of getting the winning goal. Nkunku was missing. Completely missing. A primavera player could have matched his performance.

Leao did absolutely fine, as did most of the players L. They all have strengths and weaknesses.
Because Allegri is a great coach he tends to play to their strengths.

That was not a straightforward position to score from and would’ve required either brilliance or a goalkeeper mistake.
Had he made the right connection however he could’ve set up a rebound.
First one. Pro puts that on frame 98% of the time. Keeper was frozen. Pretty easy chance for him but he’s been out.

I’ll agree with everything but the Leao part. If you look at the play again, the angle was narrower than you think. He’s shooting left foot at a right angle, defender on him. He was also unsighted by whatever the fck RLC was trying to do there. The difference in the game was ultimately the missed pen by Puli, not the missed chance by Leao …and Giminez for that matter.
Otherwise, yes I think we could and should have won the game but I’ll take 4 points against Napoli and Juve at this point in the season. And especially after the nightmare of last season.
Remember too Mike’s save also kept us in the game. Juve would have just sat back and parked the bus out for the win (admittedly we might have done the same if Puli had scored)
Out beat player had an off day. He missed a pen, wasn’t sharp in passing.
His sub didn’t change the game. He is still working to be fit.
Yet we still came away with a draw away in Turin.
Bartesaghi grew into the game. Mike looked like his old self. Santi was everywhere. Out back three kept us a goal from winning.

Wow! A missed penalty gives Puli a 4.5? The performance was there let’s be honest and he could’ve had an assist had Leao converted but yeah a 4.5. Tempo dropped blatantly when Puli came off cuz someone won’t press. As for Allegri, his trying to force a square peg to fit in a round hole may be his undoing. You’d think that a fresh Leao coming off the bench is gonna be energetic enough to terrorise the tiring Juve defence but nah… I hope Allegri can find a better solution but I don’t see how Leao fits into this system.

They think last ditch tackles are defending. Last ditch tackles happen when you get caught out and you have to recover. Gabbia’s lack of last minute tackles shows he’s usually in the right positions.

I’m a huge Puli fan but I actually thing the rating is spot on this time. He seemed a little off the whole game. He tripped over his own feet in the first half and had several loose touches before the missed penalty. He has been the best player over the last three years so he should be held to a higher standard. He will recover as even the Messi’s of the world have off games but he was well below his standard today.
Disagree. The penalty miss was bad to be certain. But he covered the most ground on the pitch before he was removed. He was a threat in attack, drawing multiple defenders. For me, the swap of Nkunku for Puli today was a waste. I would have liked to see Ricci come on for Salamaekers.
Sadly, I have to agree. Pulisic is my favorite player of all time, but that PK was just abysmal. At least hit it on frame! Embarrassing. He didn’t look great before that PK either. I am wondering if he psyched himself out. He’s been amazing several games in a row which has brought a ton of attention to him. Maybe he felt the weight of expectation today. 4.5 is accurate in my opinion. The game would have been over if he hit that PK.
I agree. Pulisic has to bury that PK. He has never missed a pk that badly(only ever missed one). Very surprising. Hopefully he can get that miss out of his head. The rating is fair.
Puli is our top player. He was last season too.
tonight however he was a 5. It’s not just the missed pen. Go back an look at his give aways in dangerous spots, lack of crisp passing, etc.
The guy ran like he always does and impacted the game, but he was clearly having a bad day at the office in several phases of the game tonight.
I will also point out (not excusing Puli poor game), that our pass accuracy in general was poor and we played slow tonight. Even Modric was taking the 2nd and 3rd touch because we were not moving to space like he were the last few games. Locatelli and McKennie are not good enough to have locked us down. Something else was in play.
That said, Pulisic looks even more dangerous and useful in this SS role. His intelligence, hustle and first touch make him dangerous anywhere on the pitch.
I don’t understand what the function of RLc is, can we sell him in the winter?
I think he was inserted for strength in the defense and for corner Arial duels.

You can’t give tomori and bartesaghi the same rating, even though he did better in the second half, bartesahi in the first half got burned by conceicaos multiple times, if tomori did that you’d give him a 4. 4.5 a little harsh on pulisic, he did miss the penalty, but was the most lively in attack. Modric was great, but I think motm has to go to Mike. Finally Santiago, was not even close to a 6.5. Alot better than usual, but still plenty of bad touches, loose passes, one play caused danger in the back with a horrible touch/flick/pass, I don’t even know what it was.
Had several clear chances to win. Juventus was never in this game. Maybe a bit of fatigue did set in. I think we have a good basis this season.
I don’t blame Leao too much as he’s obviously not match sharp yet – and anyone can miss a penalty… still frustrating though as we were the better team and couldn’t easily have won it – despite not even playing that well with too many misplaced passes and dawdling on the ball.. Juventus on the other hand have nothing to offer apart from tactical rigor – I never felt scared with them going forward – you always knew they were going to mess it up somehow. True. Many legends have missed penalties, just happens. People are being a bit harsh on puli and leao. Like you said leao is not fully match fit yet. It stings a bit since we were the better side. But also it’s been a long time since the last time we were a better side against a top team. It’s also been a long time since we put so many good performances in many consecutive games. All milan fans should be somewhat happy because after a few blurry seasons we look like a team again. Forza Milan.

Foreseeable stalemate between two defensive systems. Both sides bottled their best chance to score in the game, David slipped and Pulisic choked. I feel like we had the better of the chances overall however, and we should be slightly disappointed as had Pulisic converted or had Leao not shanked his first back post opportunity, I think we’d have won the game 1-0. Leao is not a no. 9, but I think that will sort itself out next summer.
That said, 4 points out of 6 against two scudetto challengers in back to back games is a good deal. I’d also like to mention Bartesaghi, who did very well in his spot start. We can take heart from knowing that he can do the job when called upon.
We all knew Juventus would be a tough nut to crack, Leao clearly isn’t match fit, and Pulisic has missed his first penalty in club football ever, it was a bit of a freak match in that regard, the defense did really well, Bartesaghi is very raw but there’s a player in there, you can tell he’s got what it takes. Overall not mutch to be said in all fairness, as long as it’s not points dropped. Don’t understand why the guys further up are fighting about blaming players. As long as it’s not points dropped or goals conceded it’s fine. There’s a long season ahead and we just faced two of the front runners in the league and came out with a possible 4/6.

Why was Kelly not given a red? There was no challenge for the ball. He just grabbed and pulled Gimenez down. With Gimenez about to receive and shoot. Situation was no different to what Estupinan did just a week earlier.

I agree it was a clear red as it sure was a scoring chance. But honestly, did anyone anywhere think that the ref would give a red card in Turin to a Juve player? Never going to happen. The refs love Juve. We’ve seen that million times already.

I called for 4 pts between the two games on an earlier post. It’s a good run against top teams for this new Milan. Nothing to be upset by. Juve was always gonna be tough away and it’s a valuable point away.
Puli is still a clutch player despite a missed PK, which any other time he probably buries and we win. Leao has his chances too, as did Santi. I’m not worried about this attack. Defense held up largely well also. It was a good performance.
The important thing is to get the points against the lesser teams.
it’s a stalemate between two team who play low block and a cautious approach. performance wise, everyone is about the same as against napoli. it’s should be a fine result even if it just a draw. but the fact that milan could’ve won if pulisic score the penalty. make it feels like milan had lost. the momentum halted, but the season still long.
rafa has a bad cameo tonight with his body balance, touch and finishing. his body look as stiff as cheek. when he used to be more agile.
Six games in, we have a better idea of what this team is. I was worried with all the transfer market confusion but thought Modric brought in enough class and professionalism to guarantee top four. Now, with Rabiot coming in, Allegri has found his missing piece and I am very optimistic based on the performances. I hope things keep improving. The boys were just unlucky tonight, no big deal.
I think the pitch was a little off today – several slips and falls and I feel like that makes a difference on some of the missed finishes. I thought the back 3 was rock solid and Modric deserved the MOTM. Team played well, fought in midfield, won a lot of second balls, solid performance away from home.
I looked it up and Messi has missed 32 penalties in his career. So hopefully this miss does not mess Puli up – confidence from the spot is key. He was aiming where the keeper had no chance, but he missed. But he was not as magical tonight either way – falling on his face earlier, too.
We will need to rotate some going forward.
My biggest concern this game was Leao continuing to show limited effort defensively. Allegri demands defensive effort from every player. This is a dangerous tension going forward. Both of last year’s managers tried to make Leao play defense and failed and both were gone. If team does well and Leao does not play defense, Leao will be gone. If team does not do well, Allegri will be out. I thought this might finally be the team to get Leao playing defense, but now I’m worried.
Allegri plays to players’ strengths.
He’s worked with players like Cassano and Ronaldo.
If he’s not worried about Leao you shouldn’t be.
If he’s worried about Leao, a huge profile at this Milan, do you think he would sit there and say “I don’t think Leao is all that good” the first month of the campaign? Allegri is too savvy to destroy the dressing room before the season has even started. Just wait until next summer. Leao will be sold and a more traditional no. 9 will be brought in. Two trad 9s (new one and Gimenez) and two second strikers (Nkunku and Pulisic) for the two attacking positions, no converted non-pressing wingers.

A couple of thoughts
1. This may have been Santi’s best game of the season. He consistently put himself in dangerous areas and was a workhorse
2. If someone had told me on Saturday, that today’s result would be a draw with Milan clearly the better team, I would have been happy, but after watching the reality I am not happy.

A regression to the mean was probably inevitable.

Leao has been out 45 days and has only played a few mins since. He is obviously not match fit and needs more matches to get his sharpness back. Bartesaghi’s rating is a bit generous imo. Conceicao burned him multiple times. Bartesaghi only improved when Conciecao was subbed off. Gabbia looked very good tonight.
To be fair I’m not sure how many players can shut down conciecao. He’s very shifty, pacey, low center of gravity, and fast. He did way better than estupiñan would have thought for sure. Bart did well vs napoli getting beat once I believe against neres and showed he is good defensively and good at crosses. He is still pretty raw but if given more chances he should develop into a good player.
Most players are under presure and they are little nervous so they didn’t perform at their best. That’s why we need world class striker. Lewangoalski and upcoming camarda might be the combination of senior dan junior high school player. They are only seperated by 20 years age gap. We need refreshment in front of line of team.

Modric, imo MOTM. Incredible work rate, incredible defensive and positioning skills. So many interceptions,.so many clearances. Did the work a DM today, in addition to trying to create offense. Immense performance.
Saladman, not his night offensively. Defensively was needed to hold down Cambiasso.
Similarly, Bartesaghi had a major task to cover Concecaio. At first I didn’t understand how he was defending him but in the second half it improved. He gave about a half years too much space to his right in the first half (seeing as he’s a left footed right winger, the cut back was always going to be the more dangerous option).
The central defenders as a unit did a terrific job imo. Some shaky moments, yes, but this is a high level game. We’re not playing Crotone.
Fofana was great until the card forcefully slowed him down. He was everywhere on the field.
Gotta feel for Puli tonight. He’s usually clutch from the spot. Hope it doesn’t weigh too much on his mind. You can tell he wanted to redeem himself when he became super aggressive on the field and then you can tell from his embrace with Max 😢. Especially given how fine the margins are in these big clashes. Let’s hope he picks back up and do what he normally does.
Leao’s rating is just trying to compensate for the backlash from commenters from the previous game because “he didn’t run hard enough”. Clearly he was in better shape this game, so he defended better, made more lively runs, and i particularly liked how he targeted Gatti. Hopefully he’s fully fit for the next game. A missed pen, sure I can see a 4.5 (even though I’d rate Puli higher too as he was one of the better players on offense). But to give a 4.5 for missing a goal while a defender is closing you down, come on!? Absolutely insane. He didn’t have a big a window to shoot as ppl think. Rugani did well to close the angle down. But I’m sure it’s bound to pith the comment section against each other, once more. If that’s a 4.5, then what do we give RLC for basically nothing in his cameo?

Even more so when the players who take their place are mostly awful.

Ricci has a lot to do to get a place ahead of Modric, Rabiot and Fofana. We have the best midfield in the league. Ricci and Jashiri’s time will come. I agree on Roma. Their squad looks terrible, but they’re defending well. Defence wins championships. We have a rock solid defence and brilliant midfield. Leao will be firing next month. I’d take 4 points from these two games. We bossed Napoli until the red card and bossed Juve on their ground.
On Ricci, while I do like the dude, this isn’t the game for him to be subbed in.
Ricci generally either replaces Modrić or comes in when the game is dull and we need extra creativity. Neither were the case yesterday, as Modrić played the full game and we were actually creating chances.
Allegri probably wanted a physical midfielder to replace Fofana who already had a yellow card, the problem though is that Loftus-Cheek is simply not good when he doesn’t play as some sort of second striker poaching for a chance.
For Leão, maybe my wording “sitter” was too much, should have said “big chance” instead, but aside from missing, what did he do to deserve a grade ? He missed, his passes weren’t accurate, he didn’t create for his teammates or himself and didn’t defend/deflect big chances from Juve who was a bit quite by then.
Fofana was on a yellow. It’s why Max replaced him early but with Useless Cheeks. Ricci can replace both Modric and Fofana. And to me he’s more a mezzala of anything. But I’d say that the previous game was more sus than this one as we were down a man and needed some more steel in midfield. Two whole games now he has had zero minutes. And the rest of games are bit minutes here and there. I’d say at this point it’s something to keep an eye on.
Leao for me was a so-so game. There were some moments where he really took on players like when Gatti has to bring him down. And then other moments when he had the beating of player (Gatti again) and preferred to flop in favour of a call which he didn’t end up getting. FRUSTRATING to say the least. But I also do understand he’s not match sharp. So all in all, yea I think he could have done better but also did good things.
Can’t fault him for the miss in the same way I can’t fault Puli. Those are our two main sources of goals and they both had bad misses. Happens. But I do like overall what I see

4 points against two of the probable top four. Pulisic’s miss was down to nerves. He bottled it. Leao isn’t match fit. The defence is functioning well. The attack is a work in progress. I still believe we’ll win the scudetto. That the players were angry post match is a good sign. David, Yildiz and Vlahovic did nothing.
So a player is out for like 45 days with an injury and should be hanged for missing a chance on his first game after coming back? Gtfo clowns.

Everything was there except for the result. If we continue improving in front of goal then there’s definitely a chance for the Scudetto.
As for the attackers, its probably better to split up Nkunku & Leao and pair one of them with Santi or Pulisic as the work rate drops significantly. Maybe they just need more fitness but until then it’s definitely a hinderance having them play together as the front 2.
The new midfield is definitely the key for the results this season so hopefully they keep fit.
Gabbia was also a beast yet again.

Well they had quite a bad game since they are attackers, but 0-0 when your attack misses chances like that is amazing.
What I don’t understand in ratings is how did Nkunku get 5.5? It was like we had a ghost in attack when he came on. Even RLC did way more than him, like 2 grades more. Nkunku should be rated as Leao and Pulisic or not even rated. 14 touches in 20 minutes? Everyone is flaming Leao for missing the chances but what did Nkunku do? At least Leao knows how to get in chances, and after being out for 1.5 months with 0 minutes it is expected that he isn’t sharp, even though he should have scored. But what was Nkunku doing? Specatator with 14 touches in 20 minutes. That kid Balentien would be more useful than him.
So much Gabbia hate here. He was literally perfect for 90 minutes but barely scratches a 7 rating. Ok.. lol. Embarrassing rating.
I tend to agree with Capello who said it was a boring game with neither team willing to take risks and try to win.
Thats a disappointing attitude versus an ordinary Juve team.
