Few impress as attack remains in crisis: Player ratings for Verona-Milan from Italian papers

AC Milan did not produce a vintage performance at the Stadio Bentegodi on Sunday, however they emerged with three important points.

Many fans expected a bit more of a convincing showing given that Verona are joint-bottom of the table and heading back to Serie B barring a miracle in the final few games. Yet, there is a reason easy wins in Serie A are hard to come by.

It was far from a top performance from the Rossoneri, though they did at least react consecutive defeats. The only goal of the game came from Adrien Rabiot a few minutes before half-time, and it means the gap to fifth place is now eight points.

Hellas Verona 0-1 AC Milan: Paper player ratings

La Gazzetta dello Sport have published their ratings this morning, with the team’s overall performance and Massimiliano Allegri’s management both earning a 6 out of 10. Christian Pulisic struggled to get involved and was given a 5, while Rabiot was the man of the match with a 7.5.

A lot of 6s were handed out: Fikayo Tomori, Strahinja Pavlovic, Youssouf Fofana, Rafael Leao and Samuele Ricci got a passing grade. Mike Maignan, Luka Modric and Alexis Saelemaekers were given half a point more, and Matteo Gabbia a 7. Zachary Athekame and Davide Bartesaghi struggled on the flanks in the eyes of the paper, getting a 5.5.

Corriere dello Sport gave Allegri a 6.5, along with Maignan and Modric. Leao, Ricci, Saelemaekers, Pavlovic, Gabbia and Tomori got a 6. Athekame and Bartesaghi were awarded a 5.5; Pulisic and Fofana a 5; and the substitute Gimenez a 4.5.

Tuttosport dished out 6s to Tomori, Pavlovic, Athekame and the coach Allegri. Maignan, Modric and Leao got 6.5s, Gabbia and Saelemaekers 7s and Rabiot a 7.5. Fofana, Ricci and Bartesaghi struggled (5.5), but not as much as Pulisic and Gimenez (5).

  1. Well, a lot of people in the comments of sempremilan ratings wrote and attacked how they rated Pulisic so low. They rated him higher than others. Just shows how objective you people are.

  2. He was poor and rightly so, according to Italian press. And also in some us that are truthful and objective

  3. Can’t believe that they rate Christian so low when he at least try’s to get involved, not like Leao that just sits and waits for a pass then loses it

    1. From what I saw he had the only assist of the game. If getting involved was the only thing rated Pulisic would get a 9. But who cares?
