Player Ratings: Spezia 2-0 AC Milan – defensive horror; Rebic shocking

It was yet another disappointing evening for AC Milan as they failed to beat Spezia away from home, conceding two goals in the second half. Down below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

Starting XI

Maignan (6): Cannot fault him for the two goals and he made some other good stops this evening. It’s just unfortunate that his teammates at the back are so poor.

Kalulu (4.5): He did okay in the first half, defensively anyway, but failed to deliver the perfect crosses in attack. In the second half, however, he was sloppy at the back and conceded the silly foul that led to Spezia’s free-kick goal.

Kjaer (4.5): The Dane missed the zonal marking completely on Spezia’s first goal (he was the first line of many errors) and he lost many duels today. Not the leader we need at the back.

Tomori (4.5): He struggled on the ball and, just like Kjaer, he lost way too many duels and also had a hand in the first goal.

Hernandez (5.5): He came close to scoring with an absolute rocket and at least tried to make things happen when going forward. And he was sound defensively too before he was taken off.

Tonali (6 – MOTM): Almost gave Milan just the start they needed as he hit the post with a composed effort. Then was almost always involved, but lacked the presence of his teammates.

Pobega (4.5): Was barely on the ball for most of the game and committed many fouls, as usual. He’s certainly no Bennacer, but we knew that already.

Saelemaekers (5): He showed himself many times but didn’t have the same success on the ball this evening. He can do a lot better.

Diaz (5.5): Would have been a higher rating if it wasn’t for that missed chance in the second half, when he hit the post. There was a period of about ten minutes where he created a lot, but it wasn’t enough.

Origi (5): He had his moments but ultimately failed both to find the right positions for himself and to set up his attacking teammates.

Rebic (4): Arguably the worst Milan player on the pitch with many misplaced passes and very little involvement overall.

Substitutes

De Ketelaere (5): Another evening to forget for him with no significant impact.

Ballo-Toure (4.5): One of the players that were sleeping on the first goal and he added nothing going forward.

Adli (6): He was bold and opened up space with his moves, not to mention some very good-looking corners. Promising from him.

Giroud (5): Not enough from the big man, Milan really needed him too.

Calabria (N/A): He didn’t play enough to get a rating.
