Player Ratings: Torino 2-1 AC Milan – Maignan howler again; Pavlovic fights

AC Milan failed to get back to winning ways as Torino prevailed 2-1 at Stadio Olimpico. As has become a theme this season, mistakes cost them dearly and below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Starting XI

Maignan (4): What can I even say? The mistake on the first goal was unreal, hitting it straight towards both Thiaw and Adams instead of sending it for a throw-in. It’s just another of many errors this season and it’s becoming incredibly frustrating. He did make a good save on Vlasic later and the second goal was tough to save, but the error set the tone after just five minutes (like against Feyenoord).

Jimenez (5.5): He had some good moments in attack and especially in the build-up, often pushing up with pace to open up space for his teammates. That being said, his crossing wasn’t great this evening and he also had some struggles at the back, hence the rating.

Thiaw (6): The own-goal was incredibly unlucky and certainly not his fault as he was just shielding the striker from Maignan. Overall, his defending was good but perhaps he shouldn’t have complained so much on the second goal, with Torino taking the quick free-kick. Then again, I think he was quite solid at the back and as always good with the passing in attack.

Pavlovic (6.5): There were a couple of questionable moments, in defence as well as in the build-up, but once again he was one of the few who showed grinta. In the final part of the game, he was more or less a striker and came close to a goal. He also pushed forward with the ball a lot which certainly helped, and defended well all things considered.

Hernandez (5.5): It was another evening with not enough substance from him in the attacking phase, even if there were some good runs.  Defensively, I didn’t have any major complaints up until the second goal, when he made sure the goalscorer was onside by being in a much deeper position than his teammates.

Musah (5): He opted for some risky moves on the ball and was also booked early on, even if that was a bit harsh. He also failed to make a rather easy interception on a counter, as one of two final men, and that could have proved more costly.

Reijnders (6): The goal, which was a great strike with his weak foot, is ultimately what saved the rating here. Because before the equaliser, he had many easy passes missed and a big chance squandered, even if Milinkovic-Savic made a good stop. He can still do so much better.

Pulisic (5.5): Even though he was involved in quite a lot and had some very good crosses, as well as a great through-ball for Reijnders, we simply cannot give him a pass. Milinkovic-Savic made a good stop, but a missed penalty is a missed penalty and Milan needed that goal.

Joao Felix (6): Compared to previous performances, I actually don’t think he was dreadful. He had some very good flicks, helping Milan break through, and also set up Gimenez for a big chance in the first half. We also saw good balls over the top from him, so in his role, I think he did okay.

Leao (5): While it was a surprise to see him get taken off at half-time, the performance perhaps justified it. He struggled in both phases of the game, failing with even the easiest of passes, and also didn’t have the best of success in the 1v1s. He did win the penalty, but that was more clumsiness from the defender than anything.

Gimenez (5.5): Unfortunately, we only saw a couple of good moments from him. He had a great chance saved in the first half, getting a good shot away with his weaker foot, but then failed to connect with his head on a nice cross from Pulisic. Again, the keeper made a great save on the first chance but a 5.5 is justified here.

Substitutes

Fofana (5.5): He didn’t change the game for the better, even if it wasn’t horrible by any means tonight. Some missed attempts and passes squandered set the tone for his rating here.

Abraham (5.5): Like Fofana, he was added to change the game but it didn’t happen. Sure, some of his runs were good and stretched the Torino defence a little, but not enough to make a difference.

Sottil (6.5): He entered with energy and actually had success in his 1v1s, sending the cross in that led to Reijnders’ goal among other things. He also had the cross for Pavlovic right at the death, which nearly ended up being an equaliser.

Camarda (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Chukwueze (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

  1. You don’t see even in Lega Pro the stuff that happens in Milan games. They are either boycotting Conceicao or the management, but this is no way a “mental problem” or whatever bs clichee football analysts will come up with.

    1. I’m starting to feel that way too. Seems there’s some kind of mutiny happening.
And by all indications it’s against the management team, ie; Furlani, Moncada, Ibra

  2. You can have this lineup
    —————-Haaland—————–
    Vini.Jr——–Bellingham——–Salah
    ———-Valverde——Rodri————
    Davies—Van Dijk—-Saliba—Carvajal
    —————–Courtois——————-
    Or even this lineup
    ——————-Ronaldo——————
    C.Ronaldo——Maradona——-Messi
    ——–Matthäus——Rijkaard———–
    Maldini–Baresi–Beckenbauer—Cafu
    ———————Buffon——————
And I can almost guarantee that we will have the same result and will look probably as bad. It’s not because our players are good, they’re not, only few of them are good but when there is no strategy, no cohesion, no tactics and no motivation whatsoever, you can field any player you want the results won’t change a lot.
I actually want to see a training session once to see what our players are made to do or are they actually even trying to do something.
Sure we can blame Maignan, Fofana and Pavlović for the goals, sure missing a penalty is unlucky, but what did we do going for us? Because our passes look like “hope passes”, just close your eyes pass the ball somewhere and hope someone from your team gets it, rinse and repeat and of course, once a player passes the ball he has NO IDEA where to go or how to move. This time the ONLY non-controversial stuff Conceição did is keeping Pulisic and Reijnders while subbing out Félix and Leão. At least he got the memo on this one.
Season is over. Call me weak, defeatist, weak minded and whatever comes to your mind if that makes you happy but season is over? Yeah we’re still X points from 4th or whatever with whatever game in hand (please stop calculating it’s tiring) but do you think this team is going to win in Bologna? In Stadio Olmpico against Lazio? In Diego Maradona against Napoli? against Atalanta or Fiorentina? Just try not getting relegated and celebrate if we’re still in serie A next season.
Also do you think these players actually CARE (aside from Pavlović of course)? Théo probably still thinks he can make it to Real Madrid or Bayern or Manchester City or PSG. Leão probably still thinks he will play for Barcelona next season. Maignan probably thinks of leaving as well. Even Reijnders and Pulisic with their good performances are probably wondering now if a big team is coming for them this summer and Conceição is probably already wondering which team is going to call him next season.
I guess the only positive thing is that the season is near over so less atrocious games and poor results to watch.
Can’t wait for the summer and what the ambitious RedBird and competent management will cook for us !! 🔥🔥
    (reposted because it got swallowed)

    1. Spot on commentary, especially on the substitutions. Anyone already with me that we do not need to try to sign Felix on a permanent? Please, please send him back to Chelsea. He is a turnover machine.

    2. Blame Pavlovic?

I will never blame Pavlovic for anything. Everybody who failed to see that he is the is by far the best defender not only in Milan, but in in the world would get a big slap in the face from me.

      1. Yeah Pavlovic is our best player in that game, the only player alongside Reijnders who really wanna win. The other are just $h!t

      2. Agreed. To be honest I see Pavlovic more a midfield player instead of Musah and Felix. Tomori or Gabbia at the back. Pavlovic, I think is the key that we really need (Kessie replacement). Joa Felix is not ready yet to be included in the starting line-up. I believe he would be in the coming season. He needs gaming minutes (intoduce him when the result is in our hands). Joa Felix is like CDK when he joined Milan.

    3. The summer needs to be a true year zero. The criteria for players sold needs to be efficiency and mentality, or lack thereof to be precise. Conceicao can go. Leao, Theo and Tomori don’t make the cut. Then I think even Maignan’s time is done. Felix will can stay at Chelsea, mostly because he hasn’t shown that much, but also because we won’t have CL money.

The criteria for players coming in needs to be efficiency, mentality, Italianness and Milanismo. We won’t make the CL, so the reality is we will need to save money. I honestly think we can begin by promoting Torriani to starting GK. Then we need to find a starting LB, a starting LW or RW (depending on where Pulisic is to play), a DM, backup wingers, a back LB, a CB to replace Tomori, and possibly an AM/playmaker. That’s basically 7-8 players. It’s a lot. But if most of them are Italian, and if a few of those are from our academy, I think we can recover in a couple of seasons.

Then an energetic up and coming Italian coach needs to be hired. It’s unlikely Farioli or De Zerbi will shift from their CL bound clubs, even for AC Milan, so this is a tough one. I don’t really have a solution here.

Finally, Moncada has to go, and if Furlani is in some way responsible, so does he. Ideally Cardinale sells the club altogether.

    1. Sure, they’re protesting against the people who pay their wages! They have no reason to protest against the owners. Some of these players have been poor under 3 coaches now, not including international level (Leao and Theo have been equally inconsistent for their national teams).

    1. Yes, because of all these negative bs comments of other ‚supporters‘ not because of the team. They played a great game, ruined by easy mistakes. They knew it and they had all reason to be frustrated but they kept on trying. After 80 minutes I was wandering how long they could go this Tempo but they did it to the end. Very impressive imo. We cannot be unlucky forever (yes Mikes mistake was also very unlucky cause after he hit Thiaw the Chance is still low that the ball finds the net).

  3. Football is collective sport.

For example: if Leao is strongest attacking player than he must do 100% in attack but others must cover him up.

If Theo was best by going in attack then use no10, to cover his spot in defence.

If Reijnders was best as no10 than there is no need to put Felix on his position

There was no need to change Piolis strategy but to upgrade his disabilities and mistakes.

Problem is that Redabird will again make mistakes by sacking and sales and new arrivals in next season

    1. This! It’s about playing players to their strengths. But both Fonseca and Conceicao want to impose their style onto the players but it’s not working because they’re not functional to the style they want. Been saying this. It’s such a clear delineation between players and coach if I ever seen one

      1. Seems straight forward right? Utilize players’ strengths and mitigate for their weaknesses.

But no. Every coach wants to reinvent the wheel.

        1. 🤷‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️ like Bill said below even Conte a notoriously hard nosed coach…adapted TO HIS PLAYERS and not the other way around.

          1. Inzaghi did both. He adapted to the players and had his system. They way he melds it together is nothing short of brilliant. And they buy players functional to the team and have a set objective in mind. It’s day and night between us and them

    2. Exactly. Even Conte, CONTE, has adapted to Napoli players.
Just look at Amorim struggling an Man utd because he wants them to play something they don’t know how and don’t have the players for.
442 and all your best players have dipped form. Reijnders in particular is greatly affected. Leao doesn’t fit in there and Theo will always be exposed, likewise young Jimenez at RB. Mike seems to be a bit confused lately. Abraham and S. Jimenez getting in each others way upfront

    1. AGREED. Felix was awful and he has been playing awful since his 2nd game in a Milan shirt. I’m surprised he wasn’t subbed at half time instead of Leao. But I’m opinion both of these players including Mike Maignan and Theo needs to be sold this summer.

    2. My favorite part of the game was when Felix got hit in the back of the head by a goal kick. Talk about being completely unaware on the pitch…

  4. What can we say…we probably need to accept defeat, Write this season off and regroup for next season. We have seen this story before and so there is nothing new to add to the narrative. Disappointing to say the least..

  5. Another game Milan players find a way to beat themselves.
Another game one of Milan supposed superstars managed to do something to put the team behind the 8 ball.
Torino didn’t have to do anything. Matter fact they didn’t do anything, Milan did their job for them.
Time for Mike Maignan to hit the bench. If my GKer is going to make amateur mistakes, I’d rather that be a 19 year old Torriani. Twice in 4 games.
This fantastic 4 crap needs to be scraped and never used again. 3 of the 4 were awful, especially Pulisic after the missed penalty. He literally played for Torino after that.
Kudos to Pavlovic, Reijnders and Jimenez. They made mistakes but at least they didn’t give up until the end. I don’t knock why Conceição kept Pulisic on the pitch but took Jimenez out.
Another chance missed to put themselves in a great position for top 4.

  6. We did create a lot but imprecisely and unlucky. Their goalkeeper was the MOTM. And we lost the game due to two brain farts; one by Maignan, and the other one by both Fofana and Thiaw. Even Pulisic missed a PK for the first time in his entire professional career. That’s how rotten the season has been for AC Milan. It’s Murphy’s Law. Everything that can go wrong, does.

Maignan – 4. In 3 games, we lost two of them because of his blunders. He doesn’t get an even lower score because he had two good saves.

Jimenez – 6.5. One of the few players who did well. Lots of effort and mostly good plays.

Thiaw – 5.5. Not responsible for the own goal but did fail in their second goal, naively.

Pavlovic – 7. A monster. MOTM for Milan. Tried all he could do to get a better result for Milan. He’s been consistently one of our best players.

Theo – 6. Actually he wasn’t terrible. Nothing above a pass, but no major mistakes.

Musah – 5. The usual yellow card, the usual effort with the usual blunders. He’s always the same, and insufficient.

Reijnders. 6.5 because he scored but otherwise was not that good.

Pulisic – 5. Not incisive and missed his first PK in his career.

João Felix – 6. Actually did OK, hit the post, had a good pass to Gimenez, had a good shot saved by their goalkeeper.

Leão – 5. Earned the PK but did nothing else.

Gimenez – 5.5. Even him was poor today.

    Subs

Sottil – 6.5. Significantly better game than last one. Participated in Reijnders’ goal.

Fofana – 5. Asleep in their second goal.

Abraham – 5.5. No impact but nothing bad.

    Chuk – s/v

    Camarda s/v

Conceição – 4. His Milan is regressing. He has a blind spot for João Felix. His Milan with a decent roster can’t figure out much humbler teams. At this point I’m disillusioned. Sure, it’s not his fault that both goals were brain farts by 3 of our players but his team looks like it is walking backwards. I doubt he will stay beyond 6 months, including because it’s very unlikely that we will finish in the top four.

  7. I’ve watched a few games of City this season because I wanted to witness what was going on with them. It’s clear that they have a mental problem, but no one can accuse them for not trying. The thing is I don’t know what is going on with ACM. Mental, physical, tactics? Seems like most of the players have already quit.

  8. I think every Milan fan itw said to themselves “not again” when Mike kicked it into thaiw. Then the penalty save, it a miss, Pulisic should’ve gone upper corner, the save on santi, save on tiji breakaway. Their keeper MOTM. Milan are getting worse and I don’t know what else to say. I’m speechless!!

    1. Not getting worse. We actually created lots. 2.39 expected goals. Lots of shots on goal. Their goalkeeper was a monster as usual. Torinos second goal was the kind of finishing we need. Create something from nothing and find an impossible angle to put it right down by the root of the post.
Other than that. They had nothing of course which was expected since they were in the lead. It’s not easy creating against a defensively drilled team who have the lead. I’m actually quite pleased by the offence today and at least some of the players mentality. It was mainly Pulisic, Musah, Leao and Theo who didn’t look like they wanted to win enough. The others faught and tried and ran with great pace.

It wasn’t our game. This season isn’t our season. We are going to lose the coppa in the 90 th minute on a mistake. That’s the feeling I’m getting right now.

  9. Joao ok?Are you sure?open your eyes dude.He slowing down the attack,disjoint,no penetration,no 1-2 (except one with Gnez),no verticality,no running,nothing!!He was dreadful!Bring Tijani up,thats should be better!

    1. Exactly. There was a lack of DM there as well when the team got caught with the second. I don’t understand the fetish of playing 4 attackers which also makes us to have no impact player to come on.

  10. I don’t understand why he took off Leao. He created danger and the pen 🤷‍♂️. But ok even playing devil’s advocate, he put a defensive player in with a goal down…it doesn’t wash. To me it was Felix that’s clogging up the central attacking area which Reinjders tend to occupy (starting to lean towards the others who’ve made that comment before). Notice how the offense sort of opened up a little bit when Felix went off? Sottil, though lesser quality understands spacing better than Felix (as of now and for Serie A games). He doesn’t seem to interfere with Tiji’s runs as much.
Also I don’t understand why play the Fab 4 from the start which is soooo unbalanced. That’s more a formation for when we’re desperate to get a goal and throw the kitchen sink…not to start games with. Shoutcecaio is out of his depth here. But he’s without a functioning midfield. What team boasts a successful winter transfer window prowess and only have 3 midfielders??? And any 2 combination are terrible for the pivot. None work together. And finally, poor Reinjders. He looks tired asf but still has to score, keep the team in the game and play the whole 90 AGAIN ! Shout out to Puli, unfortunately these things happen (pen miss) and streaks are bound to be broken. Dont know what to say at this point. It’s baffling. On the one hand, clearly we’re seeing many individual mistakes over the season, on the other hand the team was capable of finishing 2nd as per last season. I don’t know how to reconcile the two beyond coaching changes and chopping the team too often. But maybe there’s something else going on, got not other explanation for it.

    1. Btw the ratings are so off. I don’t know how Felix gets a pass and Leao and Puli doesn’t. I could go on but I’ll leave it there

    2. “ Notice how the offense sort of opened up a little bit when Felix went off?”
Bro do you understand how soccer works?? It opened because we were chasing the game and Torino was just sitting and defending. We were literally throwing everything at them at that point. So of course it’ll “open a little bit”. Félix being off had nothing to do with that. We had like 3 strikers in the game at that point and even with all the “opened up” spaces, what did we achieve ?? lol.

      1. We’ll have to agree to disagree here. Notice when Sottil was on the field he didn’t get in Tiji’s way. He either moved left or right to open the space. We scored when Felix left the field too and we had 2 strikers at the time. 3 strikers actual closed the game back up again ironically. But we’ll have to atd

      2. Bro.It appears that you are the one whilo do not understand how modern football works. Our friend opinion is correct when he said Felix not really function & clogging up central area, because he was not running,no verticality,no penetration,no pace,no link!Jn this regard,Tijani is better or previously Morata.Tijani should be up there, not Felix.Typical AM like him is no more required in this era.Ask this to his previous 3 club.

    3. Couldn’t agree more. Completely unbalanced. You cannot play Felix and Reindjers. Reindjers is not a DM. Not his fault. Musah?? RW?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sergio seems lost just like our Ownership and management team.

      Good times.

      1. Bro @Juro , seriously I had no clue where Musah was playing..I’m not sure he did either nor the coach lol 😅. With Fab 4 plus Deers, we’re playing effectively a 4-1-5….that “1” in the first half was Musah apparently…lord help us all.
I like how our Mercato was so Great but we only have 3 midfielders. And the other midfielder (Bondo) we got we got him injured and we knew he was injured, and can’t play even up to now. And to top it, he got a transfer rating of 8/10 lol 😂😂. I swear fans love shiny things dangled to them each Mercato by this management team.

    4. “I don’t understand why he took off Leao. He created danger and the pen 🤷‍♂️”

LOL. What danger? Dozen of misplaced passes and probably zero successful dribbles. Danger? Only to our own team perhaps.

      1. He literally is the reason we won a penalty. Due to his athleticism the defender had no option but to punch the ball 🤷‍♂️
Also u forgot the other part about taking him off for basically a defender with a goal down….

        1. So… How many points did we get for Leao’s massive effort in getting the penalty? You people praise him for anything these days. He waves his hands and you people shout “DID YOU SEE THAT?!!! HE’S SO AMAZING!!!”.

          1. What??? All I said was he won the pen. That’s objective as u can get. You’re the one taking that to a whole other level. We could have gotten points off Leao’s effort to get the oeni, yes but Puli who’s normally reliable at the spot didn’t convert (better luck next time there). I don’t understand. At any point in time Leao can decide the game even if he had a bad first half by his standards. So why take him off for a defensive midfielder while being a goal down was what I’m asking? 🤷‍♂️
I think it’s not so much praising him for anything. It seems you hate him for nothing

  11. Pathetic! Someone just said it seems the players don’t wanna play for Conceiçao , another said they’re playing bad in protest of the management.
LMAO. Did y’all watch the celebrations after the won the super Coppa?
Every excuse in the book to absolve the coach of any blame. I thought y’all said they didn’t wanna play for Fonseca. And were over the moon when Conceiçao arrived.
The biggest thing I’ve seen in this team is a toothless coach that is scared to bench his “top” players. A toothless coach that has no tactics or strategy. A cooler sitting, shouting coach that is clueless with his team selection. A cooler sitting spineless coach with no need/hunger for creativity in his midfield or wings.
I guess everyone nobody can blame Fonseca for our position on the table now right? I thought Conceiçao was supposed to make us qualify for champions league ? Lmao.
While I blame management for most of our troubles, I also blame fans for their impatience and trying to tell the coach how he should handle his lazy players. Y’all better enjoy your great Conceiçao

    1. It is now clear that Isak also has Mendes as an agent. Felix a 6?!

      Should have been

Felix – We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Dude was invisible the entire match. Nobody could see him.

You’d think being invisible would have allowed him to at least sneak up on someone.

  12. Bro both goals that Milan conceded is 100% their fault and could have been avoided so easy. Milan should have won this one but idk why they do this noob mistakes every time this is not normal

  13. So where exactly is the problem so is it the players, the coach, the owners, the backroom staff, the scouts…?

Time for a complete clear out including the owner!

  14. Stop playing 4 attackers same time. Jesus… The team is more unbalanced now than when Okafor played regularly. Also, if the leaks are true the forever talent Felix told someone he is regretting not going to Villa.

  15. I can’t take the aggravation so I’m done for the year. Pulisic you need to make that penalty. Felix, for people who love back heels/rollbacks to no one. Gimenez thinks he Messi. Whenever he touches the ball he becomes selfish and is trying to make the great play. Sometimes you make the simple pass and recirculate the ball or trust your teammates. But for people liking flash with limited end results he’s your guy.

    1. “Felix, for people who love back heels/rollbacks to no one.”

LMAO.. that drove me freaking nuts! I can’t believe we signed this clown.

  16. It’s pointless to rate our players at this point. Always someone will mess up, week in week out. The ones that have been doing good up to this point are doing horrible now. The whole setup is wrong. Starts with the managment. Probably there is a lot happening behind the scenes that we are not aware of. In the end of the day, the buck stops with cardinale. He is in charge and failed miserably. This season is over, with a lot of money spent and nothing to show for. Years of miraculous work from previous ownership got destroyed by crapbird pretty damn fast.

  17. Let’s start with Hernandez, I’ve never seen him lose a ball and return back to his position immediately, he’s always slow in returning back to his position, as an experience player that’ second goal shouldn’t have, but he was sluggish as always, he needs to be sold

  18. To be honest this whole problem started way back before the Eliotts took over and I can remember one of the reasons Ancelloti left us since 2010 was the lack of money available for good players and ever since then what have we won just one scudetto with Allegri in 2011 and another one with Pioli so in 15 years we have won 2 major tournaments but no champions league victory and since then all the managers failed including Seedorf, Tassotti, Inzaghi, Mihailovic, Brocchi, Montella, Gattuso and Giampoalo.

I just wish the previous owners back in 2007 had invested in a new stadium then and ever since then there has been one embarrassment after another. None stop!

  19. We played well and deserved to win against both Feynord and Torino. Football at high level is a sport of details.
The individual errors in the last matches are almost comic. Musah and Gabbia in Zagreb, Maignan in Rotterdam, Theo on Tuesday, Maignan and Thiaw today. We basically conceed either one man or one goal in a stupid way each match, sometime both.
    match.

    1. Wow wow wow. What are you doing here posting sensible non overly damatic comments.

This is a place for ranting and apocalyptic shit storming.

  20. There is no redemption for this team or fantasies about finishing in the top 4.

I mean we can’t beat teams at the bottom of the table. AC milan team and their organization is one big joke.

  21. Milan are so slow and predictable when theyre attacking these days. Gives the opposition time to defend. They take way too long. Stopped watching after 60 mins. I might rewatch games if we actually play good and win comfortably. but for now im not wasting my time with this milan watching them live.

    1. 100% the buildup is very slow and predictable. By the time we have the ball past midline most opposing players are already behind the ball. No quick, incisive football. At all.

  22. DAZN: Do you agree when Ibrahimovic says that this is a stronger team than the one that won the Scudetto?

Moncada: “I don’t know if it was stronger. We’ve changed a lot and it was three years ago, it’s difficult to make a comparison: we have more options, we have a more important bench.

It’s obvious that Cardinale’s pet poodle, the egomaniac Ibra wants to build his own Milan.

You guys can blame the players, but don’t forget some of them won Milan’s last scudetto – and they have been discarded for “upgrades” by Ibra and the management, whose sole aim was to prove that whatever Maldini achieved was no big deal.

Can anyone justify the letting Kalulu and Saelemaekers going out for Emerson Royal? 6 months down the road, you kick out the club captain to bring in Kyle Walker. “Yadah, yadah… Calabria is not Milan material, blah, blah, blah…”

There’s such a word as chemistry. In football, it means when a group has played consistently for a number of years, they develop some kind of telepathy. They can predict each others movements. They know how to cover each others weaknesses.

This management has successfully turned some foolish fans – the Cardinale fart sniffers – against the players. They’re so blind to the real issues. You hanker for new players. You’re excited about new arrivals. Then a few weeks down the road, you start complaining. Management is… Fill in the gap.

        1. Oh noooooo 😮😮😮 my worst fears came through 😩. Ok I’ll refrain from talking about the Mercato haha 😂 😂🤣. But it is what it is though

  23. Can we all finally acknowledge what an immense job Pioli did with this team and how badly management and fans treated him in his final season, for the crime of being the second or third best team in the league?

    1. Exactly. Pioli was one of Milan’s best coaches. But people didn’t like consistent top 3 finishes …that is until they’re outside top 3. It’s laughable

    2. Pioli is a reason I became a Milan fan. Class guy.

You are forgetting Pioli admitted he knew he had lost the team towards the end of last season when he gave a great speech and they didn’t step up.

The rot has been happening for over a year.

  24. This team is like when you don’t study and turn up for an exam. They have talent but just no idea what to do.

It seems a lazy style of play. Just attack and defend.
Any decent team knows how to keep the ball and control midfield, being patient, drawing out the opponent, we just run top speed into trouble.

Its emergency football for 90 mins, insane stuff.

All these mistakes are coming from lack of confidence and sharpness. They need to wake up. They need to train, work, plan a strategy

    1. Where do you even point a finger anymore?

Coach for questionable subs and unbalanced formations?

      Senior players for continuous blunders?

Scouting for so much deadwood and lack of a dominating midfield?

Ownership and management for a clear lack of direction?

      1. As always, this is a top down issue.

They have not embraced the idea of building a “Team”
That requires patience, recruiting players that will improve the team and suit the other players, complimentary players if you like.

How many times over the years have we seen teams continually purchase players and never find a team?
There needed to be slow change, keeping hold of players who have won and are passionate about the club.

Sometimes you need workers, players who give their all.
Losing players like Kalulu, Calabria, Bennacer, Tonali, Alexi etc does not help. They are part of what made us a strong group and they were important characters who had influence and friends.

People often say it doesnt matter what nationality the players we sign are, I disagree.
Having a core of players who understand Italian football and are passionate about the club is huge. We are missing that core, that foundation on which to add some star quality.

The players have let us down sure. But look at them last night, they actually tried hard, but confidence and belief is gone, hence the mistakes.
I don’t think the manager is helping with this formation and zero tactics.

We need to play 433, we need a midfield capable of controlling a game.

I can’t see anyway out right now, as too much damage has been done. In fact I see years of mediocrity ahead.
What Maldini built was a foundation and that has been torn apart.

Some of these players will surely leave and have great careers elsewhere.

I was very distressed by the month following our league win, which was unfortunate as it had been so long.
Once I heard this nonsense about how it would take all summer to close the sale, I knew we were in trouble.
All of June was wasted, Maldini came out and said he had heard nothing from the new owners, which was very disrespectful.
Targets that had been lined up were gone.
We didnt need much to get to the next level just 3 good players for Striker, AM and RW. Maldini tried his best but the owners wanted to take short cuts. It’s been down hill since then.

All we can really hope for at this point is that the club is sold asap

    2. “This team is like when you don’t study and turn up for an exam. ” Lol 🤣 apt ana.olgy
Or maybe they studied real hard but for the wrong exam, showing up to the exam with a ruler when everyone else has a calculator and watching you funny 😅

  25. As long as you see Musah in the field its a loss … the player is soooooo bad. If you really concentrate on the game please see his positioning.. he was a right dm then moved to left winger which created confusion for the players then moved right winger … he is all over the place with absolutely no effectiveness.. i cant even remember when he made a crucial pass ! Sucks to see him in my team tbh

  26. This was tough to watch. We played a decent game, but two stupid mistakes and Torino won. Thiaw blundered big time on the second goal by not allowing the early play, and instead of arguing with the ref. And the first goal is something that’s probably going viral by now, as that’s how ridiculous Mike’s error was. In football you sometimes have days were everything goes against you. Unfortunately, it seems we are having a lot of those lately.

  27. Pulisic deserves a 5 because he missed a pk for the first time in his career but Conceciao left him in the whole 90 even after he said during the press conference that Christian didn’t have 90 minutes in his legs yet. He actually played pretty well outside of the pk. This team at this point is a joke overall. Leao and Théo are extremely overrated and don’t seem interested on the pitch. Felix was a mistake of a signing who doesn’t do much and gets in the way of Reijnders and Pulisic. Mike is making amateur mistakes. Puli, Pav, Reijnders, and Thiaw are the only guys who can hold their heads up this season. The rest = blah.

  28. Sell Theo, Leao and Maignan.
In most games they play for the other team.
Leao is so sh!t even the new coach subs him off at half time. Funny thing is both Fonseca and Conceicao are Leao’s countrymen and hired to unlock Leao, but quickly both have realized that there isn’t anything to unlock, but to lock it down completely.

    1. Stop pretending everything was great under Maldini and crying over him like an ex-girlfriend, it’s pathetic and needy. You were probably one of the Emersons complaining about the players who left for nothing. Maldini paid for the mistakes he made and that will continue to be the case until management get the right formula.

      1. Hahaha, what do we have here, the RedTurd PR tool, doing his job in Desperation mode. Why are you so angry, fella, chillax, we’re probably winning the Decent Accounts scudetto which is the only thing your employer cares about, so your position is hardly at risk. Well, you know, as long as you continue writing positive comments about Red Turd and/or negatives ones about Maldini. Keep up the good work!

        1. Ah the third world paid agents theory. Nothing says you have been educated in a mud hut more than repeating crap like that. I think you’ll find I have criticised management many times. What I am not, unlike many of you, is a liar. I don’t claim they’re cheap, because they’re obviously not. I don’t push this fantasy idea that they’re only interested in the bottom line when they’ve spent over €250 million.

          1. What an irony, when a yank calles someone else third world. Yankeeland is the biggest shit hole I’ve ever visited. Here, try an spell me this – universal healthcare and free college education.

          2. It’s funny when a yank calles other third world. USA are the biggest sh*thole I’ve visited. Here, try and spell me this – universal healthcare and free college education. Take your time. Ask your mom if she not working one of here 3 jobs right now.

      2. What mistakes exactly? Bringing us back to CL regulars? Constructing a team with peanuts that won Scudetto? Or signing Origi and CdK for combined 35 millions?

Want me to start with RedTurds mistakes?

You clown lack basic understanding of actually everything, from management to finances and football. We see that under every response you make to anyone. And you are the exact definition of this management. Stup*d, clueless and on top of it arrogant. A perfect RedTurd fanboy.

    1. Shouldn’t you be watching Como? How are they doing with only 2 Italians in their starting lineup and their foreign owner and foreign coach? Coming here for attention worse than the attention seeking w.h0re called Inter fan..

      1. Two Italians is 200% more Italians than in the starting line up for this thing masquerading as AC Milan.

I’m not seeking attention (more than anyone else on here) merely noting my ongoing protest against this fraud.

Is there nothing that these people running your former club could do to make you stop?

Are you just going to keep taking it on the chin?

        1. What protest? Not a single person here even considers you a Milan fan (that overcompensating douchy nickname isn’t fooling anyone), let alone cares what you watch, support or do.

          1. Wrong. He’s more of a Milan fan than you are. You’re not a Milan fan, you’re a toxic Emerson, pushing you silly little hate filled agenda. There is no nuance to the things you post.

        2. “Maldinis Heir
          19 February 2025, 8:06 at 8:06 am
The issue is when a team that purports to be from Serie A has ZERO Italians in its starting 11, and virtually none in its first team squad, it has a foreign coach, and foreign owners

Isn’t this you from a few days ago after you laughed at the exit of our club from the UCL?

So the issue you have is “zero” Italians in the team (we have 7 btw) yet Como played only two Italians in their last game. So basically you gave up support for your team you claimed to have loved for another team which had +1 Italians who played in the last game and because they’re close by. Make that make sense.

“It has a foreign coach”? Como’s coach, Fabregas is Spanish.
“And foreign owners”? Como’s owner is Indonesian.

So basically you gave up support for Milan because of foreign ownership, foreign coach and foreign only to find yourself a club with foreign ownership, foreign coach and barely any more Italians than we currently play.
To borrow your logic, shouldn’t Como be playing in La Liga or Indonesia?
Hold this L because none of it makes any sense.

          1. I know what I previously posted.

To be clear I haven’t actually started supporting Como.

I have a soft spot for them due to a personal connection to the place, and love for Cutrone.

The main reason I can’t suddenly start supporting Como is because I can’t suddenly start supporting a team. I supported AC Milan for over 40 years including through the so called ‘Banter Era’. Even at peak ‘Banter’ the club still had an identity.

It’s not just the lack of anything remotely to do with AC Milan, the city or Italy, it’s the sheer disdain and contempt the club holds for these things, and the total lack of identity.

This is now just a collection of randomers. And another collection will arrive in the summer.

What exactly is keeping you supporting this empty shell?

        3. “To be clear I haven’t actually started supporting Como.”
You be lying lying. You literally said you’ve stopped supporting Milan and wish ill to AC Milan. Don’t make me pull those clips up too.

I realized you haven’t addressed the foreign owners, coach players bit. Maybe you’ve realized you got egg on your face, how ironic and downright id1otic it was that you ditch Milan complaining about the lack of Italians to support a team who played the same number of Italians in their last game (vs Napoli), has a foreign coach and a foreign owner. No word about that yet.
You’re a fairweather fan. After 40 years you suddenly realized there’s a club that’s closer to you by distance so you go support it?!?!. How mor0nic. A word I only reserve for one other poster in these forums. You’d think you’d have a better appreciation for someone who defends you in these here forums in the past.
Asking other people who they’re a fan of is downright hypocrisy at its finest when you yourself don’t even have a basis for support for both Milan and Como. If you applied your own logic about why you remove yourself from supporting Milan, then you’d do the same with Como. The remaining reasons for being physically close and Cutrone are incredibly LAME!

      1. There’s more to all of this than Calabria – who remains a legend for all he did for AC Milan when they were still AC Milan.

There’s hundreds more like him and there will be many more.

And at this rate they seem to determined to destroy Camarda.

What makes this thing even relevant to Serie A?

They could be dropped into any other league and they’d probably have more of connection.

You wouldn’t even blink if you saw them playing in Portugal.

There’s nothing left except a name that they’re destroying.

        1. Calabria wasn’t the problem, this team has no identity and is a collection of hired guns. Management made sure to erase the past and has given us this mess.

    2. Well they have nobody playing who was born in Milan, so you can prolly go away by your own logic.

Maybe follow the u11 team at Como?

      1. Do you honestly not think it’s important for a club side that is from a country to have players from that country?

What is the point of national leagues?

What’s the point of ‘Italian football’?

Nothing about this team (and a few token youngsters thrown on in the death don’t count) has anything that makes it in any way ‘Italian’.

Watching this team doesn’t give you any insights or sense of ‘Italian football’ because none of them (ZERO in the starting line up in multiple games this season) are Italian.

If National leagues don’t matter why don’t we just disband the whole thing.

Serie A, La Liga, the Premier League, Ligue 1, Liga, Eredivisie – there’s no difference.

So just get rid of national leagues altogether.

        1. That’s fine, but there’s no algorithm. This has been explained many times. Stop lying. Moncada is a traditional scout. No one is signed based on your fantasy algorithm, these players don’t top any metrics in algorithms. Cardinale is a fan of money ball, but it clearly hasn’t been implemented at Milan.

          1. See, stup*d, clueless and arrogant. The most toxic combination there is.

The name of the article is:

“Cardinale set to appoint Billy Beane as AC Milan’s consultant in the transfer market” from 2023.

And there are tons of other articles confirming it. Cardinale himself confirming it.

            Google it you dweeb.

          2. I refer to the ‘algorithm’ in a metaphorical sense.

This is team has all the chemistry of a Tinder date.

(Speaking metaphorically, I’m not suggesting they use Tinder to scout).

        2. Oddly enough I agree that the lack of Italian players is problematic.

What I cannot agree with is your trolling AC Milan UCL exit the way you did. You’ve become a troll. I’m a bit sad for you. 40 years of love and now you celebrate failures.

  29. Cardinale is destroying what Maldini built and he needs to be stopped before Milan get relegated. Maldini only wanted to better the team by replacing the coach Pioli with Pirlo or someone else and you show know how well Pioli did without Maldini and did not achieve anything two seasons after Maldini had left. Maldini was the best man for us all the way given the cash strapped owners such as Elliott and then Red Bird who gave him a budget of $30M per year which seems like a huge achievement compared to the what they have spent since Maldini departed.

    1. Incorrect. Maldini spent a lot of money as well.

      2019-2023
      Transfers In. €353 million
      Transfers Out. €126 million
      Net spend: €227 million

We failed to get money for Donnarumma, Kessie and Calhanoglu and that is why Tonali was sold and that is also one of the reasons Maldini was replaced. He should have moved on players in the last year of their contracts, he didn’t.

      1. He did spent a lot, he did letting player go for free, but he also won scudetto, reaching UCL semifinal, building right mentality. Football is about winning and trophy.

      2. The funny part is Maldini fangirls who root against Milan keep bringing his name up after every lost point while its Maldini’s players in the squad who are literally Milan worst players this season and some of the worst in the league.
Milan lost today because of Maignan and Thiaw, but somehow that’s the ownership fault and the new management and the new coach.
Milan got knocked out of UCL because of Maignan and Theo but Maldini’s fangirls blame the ownership.
Leao was trolled by a 18 year old kid in both games vs Feyenord while today he got subbed at half, but that’s ownership fault.

        1. Don’t worry so much, dear Cardinale’s fart sniffer. More Maldini’s players will be shipped out at the end of the season. Probably Maignan and/or Theo. Maybe Fik and/ Leao. Then your new-found egomaniac object of veneration, Ibra will finally build his own Milan.

        2. That’s because these fangirls don’t understand that most players hit peak form for only a few years, which is obviously why there is so much churn at big clubs. The trinity, Mike, Theo and Leao, haven’t been brilliant for their national teams either so it has nothing to do with the environment at Milan. Players who are consistently brilliant over 5-6 years are extremely rare. Weah, for example, was only great in his first 2 seasons then injury and age took their toll. Kaka’, on the other hand, was fantastic for 7. That’s football. For all the money and great players they’ve had, Liverpool and Arsenal have one league title between them in 10 years. Getting to the top and staying there is extremely difficult.

      3. Dollar wanted a $100m deal. No way the mgmt will pay
Cal is a cheapo, went next door over $0.5m, better that he doesn’t stay

Kessie was the only one that is a big mistake

  30. We are so frustrating to watch at the moment. Got to stop the fab 4 starting line-up. If you must do it, then you can’t play Rjeinders in the holding role.

Not suggesting to drop Rjeinders. Rather don’t start all of the ‘fab four’.

We worked so hard to get back 1:1 and then another big lapse in judgement and bang. You trail again.

Hats off to Torino. They have an awesome keeper. Their winter market gave them some edge they were lacking in attack.
Overall they play well to their strengths and are very hard to break down

    1. Three of the few serious players in the team (Pulisic, Fofana and Thiaw) sleeping through that second goal was one of the most telling pictures of our season one could ask for.

  31. Remember at the start of the season when we were hoping we could secure all of our 3 “stars” in Maignan, Theo and Leao? What a trio of clowns, shouldn’t even be starters anymore.

Also in coaching we went from Pioli being serviceable, to slight better coach in Fonseca and decided to throw it all away with Conceicao who is in love with our worst players (Musah and Felix)

    1. True, but they are also highly regarded so Milan should be able to offload them for good money. The problem is you can’t trust Moncada to invest the money correctly.

  32. Anyone can enlighten me with our current pressing approach? is it because of our tactics? why our pressingduring Pioli felt 1000000000 times better than Fonseca or Conceicao?

  33. I’m sick of this management and this team. Honestly, Cardinale needs to sell the club or he should have the balls to get rid of Ibra, Furlani, Scaroni and Moncada.

Get a proper experience sporting director and replace players these players:
    1. Maignan – Milinkovic-Savic
    2. Theo – Calafiori
    3. Leao – Adeyemi or Lookman
    4. Felix – Return to Chelsea
    5. Abraham – Return to Roma/get Retegui or Lorenzo Lucca
    6. Chukwueze – Orsolini
    7. RLC – Ricci
    8. Conceição – Sarri (433)

    1. I’m glad they don’t listen to you. First of all, Furlani is doing his job well, he deals with contracts. Why on Earth would he be replaced? Scaroni is too old, so it would be better if he was replaced with someone younger.

      1. VMS is not a better goalkeeper than Mike and he’s also 28.
      2. Calafiori is injury prone and Arsenal won’t sell him unless they get a lot of money.
      3. Adeyemi is overrated, all speed and no brains. Lookman is probably going back to England.
      4. Sarri is a fraud.

Pulisic, Reijnders, Fofana and Pavlovic have been a big success. Gimenez looks promising. Half the transfers are bad, half are good.

      1. “4. Sarri is a fraud.”

Oh wow, a deep elaboration you made there. Wise as usual.

This explains why he won trophies with Juventus and Chelsea both domestically and in Europe.

  35. Here we have:
    – a guy who passionately defends Royal;
    – a guy who cheers against Milan, because we don’t have enough Italians;
    – a guy who passionately defends the very same owners that are literally destroying the club with each move they make;
    – a guy who believes Fonseca was a great coach and we would’ve been cruising with him after the winter market;

Seriously, what kind of a bizarro world is this? 🤣 Please tell me it isn’t representative of the red & black community.

    1. Correction – The team doesn’t have ANY Italians.

It’s now started multiple games this season with no Italians in the starting line up.

Gabbia gets dropped the minute he looks at something the wrong way or if one of the other foreign CBs can make it through 90 minutes without causing a goal.

The club captain and longest serving player was frozen out this summer, and then dumped as a footnote at the end of the January transfer window.

There’s no other senior Italians left.

You can drop this team into any other league and you wouldn’t even notice.

They don’t play like an Italian team, they have no Italians, they have no connection to Italy, they are basically a McDonalds.

And the worst part is nobody cares.

I really don’t know what attracts anyone here to this mid-table team of randomers.

      1. “I really don’t know what attracts anyone here to this mid-table team of randomers.”

And what attracts YOU here literally every day?

    2. The guy who passionately defends Royal and the guy who believes Fonseca was a great coach and we would’ve been cruising with him after the winter market is the same poster.

    1. He replaced Osimhen with Lukaku and Krava couldn’t wait to leave. He’s lost Napoli’s best two players. That’s what he does. He is only battling for the scudetto because Napoli aren’t in Europe. He ruins clubs.

  36. After this game it should be easy. Maignan is not in top 5 Serie GKs anymore. You can’t make that many mistakes 2 seasons in a row.

    1. Get rid of Magnian, Leao and Theo. If AC consider these 3 players as the squad foundations then as we witness every game then disaster is guaranteed. Why Musah is allowed to run like a mad bull. There isn’t one player who can read the game and every player is trying to be the hero. AC has become a lost cause and success looks far far away. Keep on hoping there are years ahead !!!

  37. The biggest problem with Fonse and Conce are players inherited that don’t suit their system. Both couldn’t settle on their 1st team, both don’t know the players positions. Jimenez, Puli, Musah, have played more than 3 different positions this season. I still don’t know which position Torriano plays. Fofana has been drifting in and out of the team lately, our CB’s pairing change every other game, formation changes within games, and the list goes on. Let’s look at our neighbour’s on the blue side of Milan. You can with 100% accuracy predict the line up with small tweaks now and then. We know exactly where Dumfries plays, you will not see him pop up on the opposite flank or drop back into defense during games. Calha is fixed in his DM position and if he doesn’t play a similar player will take that position, not a winger being converted to a DM during the game. The line up is clear, the positions are fixed, the substitutions are like for like and there is no confusion on formation, role and style of play. That is why Inter can play consistently well week in and week out. If Musah doesn’t know and understand his role he’s development is bound to be stunt, he will be prone to mistakes because he doesn’t fully interpret his role and so it goes for everyone on the team. This is either a poorly constructed team which we cannot fault the coach for or the coach is not tactically and technically astute to work with the material at hand. I see a place for Felix with his expertise in this team, the coach will have to figure out how to play both hum and Tijji in the team and these are some of the dynamics plaguing the team. Either way we need to reset and start from ground zero again this summer.

  39. Unless we win rest of the matches we can kiss UCL goodbye. Not going to happen. I feel it’s time for a new cycle. It was fun while it lasted but it’s time to move on.

Yes, that means no extension for Mike & Theo. Sell Mike and buy Milinkovic-Savic. No need to do scouting and he’ll be cheaper (+ wants less salary). Win-win.

Theo? He might return to his level with a new coach and new guys next to him (people willing to defend) but I doubt it. He wants out. Has wanted for quite some time if you look at his performances. He’s not going to accept “a lesser” salary than he wants and Milan won’t pay – nor should they. He’ll leave 100%.

And you can’t discuss Theo without Leao. Keep him or sell him, I don’t care. If you keep him, bench him and play him the last 30minutes so he should be able to work for the team too. Also, playing him against busses never work.

Most likely Tomori will leave too in the summer. Fine. We need someone more reliable and with the money we get for him, we should be able to buy 2 better players. That is if someone else than Moncada or Mendes calls the shots.

The fact is that year zero is coming – like it or not. We’re out of UCL which means that important players will want to leave. Fine. Replace them with players who are hungry and know how to work as a team and FOR the team. We don’t have too many of those.

And Gasperini just announced he’s not staying in Atalanta. Get him. I don’t like him but heck, you know he’s one helluva coach. I don’t think there is any better ones available or within our budget.

    1. Oh and did you guys see Abraham’s reaction after the match. He was devastated. Everyone should have been. Most of them looked as they we’re already thinking what they’ll have for breakfast or what to post on Instagram. We need players who will die for the shirt. Tammy showed he cares. Maybe he’s not world-class but he’s the type of player we need. Not those “whatever”-guys…
