The players missing from Milan’s squad to face Verona – explained

By Euan Burns -

There are a handful of very important players missing from the AC Milan squad to face Verona on Saturday afternoon.

Stefano Pioli has decided to switch to a 3-4-3 formation for this game which means that the lineup has been changed, largely due to physical issues.

Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria have both been permanent fixtures this season but they are not even on the bench to face Verona as they are struggling with fatigue which could easily become serious injuries.

Mike Maignan is missing the game after he picked up an injury in the Champions League match against Newcastle on Tuesday, so Marco Sportiello starts for the first time.

Pierre Kalulu and Mattia Caldara both remain injured and whilst the former may return in the near future, Caldara will be out for a long time after ankle surgery.

Finally, Ismael Bennacer is still absent with the long-term injury he suffered at the end of last season.
