PM: Milan optimistic about securing return of Manchester United defender – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are making progress in negotiations over the potential return of Diogo Dalot from Manchester United, according to a report.

PianetaMilan have issued an update on the situation by claiming that the hypothesis of Dalot’s return to Milan – after he spent the 2020-21 season on loan at the club – is increasingly concrete. Contacts with Manchester United have been constant over the last few hours and days, and there is a fair amount of optimism that the Portuguese international could return.

It is possible that the operation will go through in the second half of August as Milan want Dalot on loan with an option to buy, while United want that to be an obligation. At the moment the Red Devils are asking for a paid loan of €3-4m, which is considered too high.

Even a new dry loan is not excluded because Pioli needs a right-back to alternate with Davide Calabria, and getting a player back who has shown that he knows how to adapt to Italian football would be ideal.

  1. This transfer window has been so far a struggle for keeping last year squad. Partly, the management has succeeded. Unfortunately, increasing the team quality is also important. Given the context, that means investing at least 40 mil Eur in cash (CAM and RW) – which we do not have. So, please, do not be surprised if we lose target after target. Bringing good players means investing cash and not promises (loan +option to buy) that sometimes you do not keep (see Tonali)
