PM: Milan remain admirers of Fiorentina star as cut-price deal hypothesis emerges

By Oliver Fisher -

An opening has emerged that could see AC Milan rekindle their interest in Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic, according to a report.

According to PianetaMilan, Milenkovic remains a profile that interests the Milan management because of his strong characteristics as a centre-back, his Serie A experience and his potential to grow into an even better player given he is just 23 years of age.

The report adds how in the past the Rossoneri inquired about the defender, but Fiorentina asked for a bumper fee of around €40m to sell their prized asset. Now things could change, given that the player has no intention of extending his contract with La Viola which is all set to expire in June 2022.

Milenkovic’s profile could come back into vogue for Milan, but not necessarily in the current window. Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso will consider the sale of the Serbian to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer but this also means he could be available in a cut-price January deal.

Of course, all of this goes on with the background that the future of Alessio Romagnoli – whose deal also expires in 2022 – remains uncertain.
