PM: Milan to save over €16m on 2022-23 budget if trio complete exits

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are closing in on making three sales official and this will have a knock-on effect on the accounts, a report has revealed.

It seems as though Leo Duarte’s official sale to Istanbul Basaksehir was the first of the trio having been announced earlier in the month, while Samu Castillejo has departed ahead of a medical for Valencia and Mattia Caldara is on his way to Spezia. PianetaMilan have taken a look at each player what the impact on the budget will be.

Leo Duarte: After a year and a half on loan, Istanbul Basaksehir decided to buy Duarte outright. The Brazilian arrived in the summer of 2019 for €10m from Flamengo, and though there was a €5.5m option to buy as part of his loan move to Turkey, it has been re-negotiated to €2m.

His book value as of 30 June 2022 was just over €4.2m, so Milan will make a loss of just over €2.2m, but will save €2.1m on the amortisation amount of the 2022-23 budget.

Mattia Caldara: The Italian will return to Milan after his loan at Venezia but he will not be staying. If he were to join Spezia, it would allow the Rossoneri to save around €7.5m in depreciation, to which his salary must be added as a saving.

Samu Castillejo: He is heading for Gennaro Gattuso’s Valencia and this is good news for the Milan accounts because – when factoring amortisation and salary – his exit would mean savings of just over €7m.

Since these are players that are not part of Stefano Pioli’s project, the departure of this trio would guarantee important funds to be allocated to new arrivals and renewals like Charles De Ketelaere, Rafael Leao and Ismael Bennacer.
