Pobega reflects on lack of playing time at Milan: “I had to work on myself”

By Isak Möller -

Tommaso Pobega spoke to the media after AC Milan’s 0-0 draw against Empoli earlier this evening. The midfielder, who played from the first minute, shared his thoughts on what went wrong for the Rossoneri.

As Stefano Pioli decided to make five changes to the starting XI this evening, Pobega got the chance from start. It was his first appearance since the home leg against Tottenham and although he started well, he faded as the game went on.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Pobega shared his thoughts on the lack of playing time for him recently. He also spoke about the game and what went wrong for Milan out there tonight.

On the game…

“Pioli asked me to drop down between the defenders to give space to Theo and Calabria on the flanks. We try to always be superior to recover the ball high and keep the ball in the game.”

Have you felt a little neglected lately?

“I had to work on myself. Maybe I wasn’t giving the coach the right answers in training to play as a starter… I tried to work, to remain concentrated, to be useful, to be precise, as best I could.”

Are you satisfied with your season?

“It’s early. I have to try to improve by learning everything I can from everyone. In the second half, I had a heading chance, I needed to be more precise.”

You’ve had so many good coaches…

“I’ve been lucky with all the coaches I’ve had. The nickname Harry Potter? I can’t remember who gave it to me…”

Milan will take on Napoli next in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final. It’s a huge game and Pobega will probably have to remain on the bench for that one, given the pecking order in midfield.

  1. Pobega isn’t a DM so why play him there? Bennacer seemed to be the #10 yesterday and only Origi managed to play worse than him. Why didn’t Pioli switch their positions as they were both out of place? Bennacer couldn’t do one thing right yesterday.
