The chances of Mauricio Pochettino becoming the next AC Milan head coach already appear to have significantly dropped.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanVibes), Pochettino may soon be crossed off the list for Milan after the discussions with him last week. The current coach of the United States men’s national soccer team has reportedly received a contract extension offer from the American federation.
They want him continue his work beyond the upcoming World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Having taken over in September 2024, the former PSG and Tottenham coach convinced the USMNT bosses thanks to the results achieved and his development of talent.
With a win percentage close to 55%, Pochettino has transformed the United States into one of the potential surprises of the next World Cup, so much so that the federation want to keep him beyond his current deal, which expires after the tournament.
After Xavi’s refusal and with Andoni Iraola seemingly Liverpool-bound the options are starting to dwindle. At present, Oliver Glasner and Matthias Jaissle are the two names that are most concretely linked.
Finally, some good news.
Thank God! I find him clueless. He only won one domestic league ever in his entire managerial career (the one time he won the one-horse race in League 1 with PSG; it’s actually very hard to lose it if you are with PSG as they virtually have no legitimate competitors in France) and the only reason why he did well for PSG and Tottenham for a short while was the players he inherited. Soon enough once what he inherited became more remote, he failed badly and was fired due to his poor results.
He is also very bad at calling up players for the USMNT, with baffling decisions including calling up very bad players and leaving out very good players. He doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes and insists with low-performing players as starters when better players sit on the bench. Also, he can’t read a game and make necessary adjustments at halftime.
This guy is another one of those mediocre coaches who somehow manage to fool people and secure some prestigious assignments despite their mediocrity. Well, he’d fit right in with this current Milan administration since they have a tendency to hire mediocre coaches.
THE US Soccer Federation is equally clueless. So, he convinced bosses with the results achieved? What results? Under him the USMNT consistently lost to the one legitimate competitors they have, the Mexican National Team. 55% winning percentage? Sure! The USMNT play in the CONCACAF against extremely weak competitors. Playing against all those small island nations, he should rather have a 90% winning rate and should be beating all of them and at least drawing overall with Mexico (meaning, winning some, losing some). Instead, he’s been losing some games to the small island nations and failing against Mexico.
55% when you play in the CONCACAF is actually a very poor result.
Remember, the USSF is the same one that kept that mediocre loser Jurgen Klinsmann for 5 long years, so it doesn’t surprise me that they are happy with Pochettino.
Serie A is much tougher than CONCACAF. Pochettino would be a big-time loser in Serie A.
He did get Tottenham to a UCL final…

there is some good news and some horrific news in this article … Pochetino is not high level coach and him not arriving is the good news…. Pochetino not wanting to come( or basically rejecting) to ac Milan is the horrific news. Good job Gerry! We are winning!

The results in the World Cup will determine whether he was successful or not. Not whether he was successful with PGS or Tottenham.
International soccer is not the same as Club soccer.
Tottenham was too cheap to invest in the team.
