AC Milan and Porto are expected to close the deal for Santiago Gimenez soon, perhaps even during a meeting today.
Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto gave another update on the talks that are taking place between Milan and Porto for Gimenez. The words from the journalist have been relayed by MilanNews, and he seems confident things are on the home straight.

“Today, contact is expected between Milan and Porto to close the Gimenez deal. There is optimism. There is talk of a free loan with an option to buy. The Mexican already has an agreement with Porto. The only thing expected was Rodrigo Mora’s exit,” he said.
It is worth recalling that Moretto said over the weekend that Gimenez was ‘one step away’ from becoming a new Porto player, so things have moved quite slowly since. However, the sale of Mora – who was actually also linked with Milan – should see things accelerate towards the finish line.
The 25-year-old scored 65 goals in 105 games across all competitions for Feyenoord, earning a big-money move to Milan. He started well with the Rossoneri but ultimately failed to score a single league goal in 2025-26, and Goncalo Ramos’ arrival has pushed him further towards the exit door.

If an obligation to buy, there is no banking. It’s simply a permanent transfer with a deferred payment until the end of the season.

I love how people just assume there will be a huge market for players like Gimenez. If it existed, we’d sell these players at good prices. But people don’t seem to understand that club aren’t going to pony up 30M euros for a striker that scored zero goals last season.
What would you say about Gerry if the news article instead linked us with a striker who had scored zero goals last season at 30M? Your head gasket would explode, wouldn’t it? “Oh how can Gerry be so stupid, we need real football people running this club!” So yeah, Porto will get their loan with an option, and hopefully Gimenez scores 15 or so goals in Portugal, and that convinces them to pay us 30M next summer.
