Positive streaks and struggles: How Milan’s 2021-22 season has unfolded so far

By Oliver Fisher -

It would be an understatement to call AC Milan one of Italy’s great teams. Founded back in 1899, they have spent the entirety of their history playing in the top tier of Italian football bar two seasons, and have won 18 FIFA and UEFA trophies, the fourth highest out of any club in the world (and most out of any Italian club).

They also hold a joint record for most Intercontinental Cups won, with three, and their achievements don’t stop there. With all this in mind, calling them one of the best Italian clubs in history is not just empty praise.

When it comes to Italian football, AC Milan is one of the most popular clubs in the country (and the world), along with Juventus and Inter Milan. Among Italian punters, AC Milan is a definite favorite, as found on this page, and in terms of sheer amount of fans, the club is one of the biggest in the world.

As far as the Serie A is concerned, AC Milan has had a history of topping the rankings. As a matter of fact, in 2022, it is ranked number 1, followed by their city rivals Inter in second and Napoli in third place. So, let us take a look at AC Milan’s track record in the Serie A in the 2021/22 season…

A winning majority

Up until April 12, Milan have played 32 matches in all. Out of the thirty-two matches played, they’ve brought home the win in 20 of them, drawing in eight and only losing in four.

They played their first match on August 23, against Sampdoria, and started the season off on the right foot, by winning the match, with a score of 0-1. In the following two matches they scored a victory again.

On September 19, they faced their first draw in the 2021/22 Serie A, against another of Italy’s most prestigious teams, Juventus.

Rocky period

From then on, it was nothing but victories for a while. The streak was broken on November 7, when they tied against Internazionale. In the two subsequent matches, Milan lost both games, first against Fiorentina, and the second against Sassuolo. It seems November was not Milan’s month this season.

After their loss against Sassuolo, the squad got their head in the game, and won two games, drawing in the third. But, sadly, another loss was around the corner, and they were beaten 1-0 by Napoli. Their final most recent came on January 17, against Spezia. Since then, Milan has seen nothing but wins and draws.

Last five games

Out of the last five matches, Milan has won three, and tied the last two. In the last match against Torino, neither team could score a goal, and the same was true for the game before against Bologna.

The three matches before that, all ended in a score of 0-1 in Milan’s favour, securing the club the top ranking in the 2021-22 Serie A competition.
