Thursday 25 January could be a very important day in AC Milan’s mission to build a new stadium, as the San Donato Milanese City Council signed the resolution on the proposed urban planning variant for the construction of the facility.
Radio Rossonera writes how, on a bureaucratic level, we are talking about the first, truly important step towards the approval of a project that could change Milan’s course for the future in a very positive way.
After the Milan Board of Directors met two days ago to approve the purchase of new land in the area for the new stadium, the five-point plan proposed by the Council can begin, as they confirmed today.
The San Donato Milanese City Council signed the resolution on the proposed urban planning variant for the construction of the new AC Milan stadium and sent out a press release.
“The City Council decides to positively evaluate the feasibility of the Initial Proposal, as determined in the Technical Document, acknowledging that the subsequent operational phase must be conducted through a specific Program Agreement following a request for promotion of the same by the Mayor,” it reads.
“This is what is stated at the heart of the provisions of the resolution approved in relation to the proposed urban planning variant for the San Francesco area where the future Milan Stadium should be built.
“With regard to the proposal aimed at allowing the creation of a project with a strong sporting vocation which includes a stadium of approximately 70 thousand seats and annexed and complementary structures, the Council expresses its intention to request a regional program agreement to which everyone will have to contribute the bodies and subjects involved in the complex urban planning project.”
“It also specifies that specific responses must be guaranteed on some important areas of public interest including issues related to infrastructure, roads, public transport and environmental issues. These assessments must also be integrated with what will emerge through the participatory process carried out with citizens.
“Finally, the resolution provides that the Municipal Council will be called to take note that the procedure, involving a variation to the urban planning instruments, will start with the promotion of the Program Agreement.”
During the press conference, the Council of San Donato illustrated what the next bureaucratic steps will be towards the construction of the new Milan stadium, which have been outlined below.
➤ 28 September 2023: Sportlifecity presents the request for a variation to the integrated intervention plan relating to the San Francesco area.
➤ 24 January 2024: The Council declares the proposal viable
➤ February 2024: The City Council will express its opinion on the launch of the Program Agreement
➤ 2024/2025: Program Agreement with the institutions and bodies interested in the project + Citizen participatory path
➤ 2025: Ratification by the City Council
Ok, yet still no timeline for completion. At this point it doesn’t look like sooner than 2028, possibly 2029.
In another article it was said the target is that it’s ready for the 28-29 season.
I might skip these kind if news update until ground breaking starts. Until then, we’ll still be selling talents just to balance the accounts.
