Preview: Serie A Round 25 – AC Milan vs. Fiorentina

By Fred Ilondo -

Following a gracious draw at Rome against Lazio last Monday, Milan will face yet another tough side as they prepare to face Fiorentina.

Despite a disappointing performance, the Rossoneri managed to grab a point away from home thanks to a late equaliser from Suso. The result could have been completely different if it was not for the greatness of Gianluigi Donnarumma who once again proved he is essential to this Milan team, making a total of nine saves.

As for Fiorentina, they have been making an impressive comeback after a shaky start of the season. Despite their humiliating defeat to Roma (4-0) two weeks ago, they have managed to win three of their last five games. If anything is certain is that it is going to be a real challenge for both teams as they are only one point away from each other in the standings, a win for Fiorentina would put them ahead of Milan while the Rossoneri are looking for a win to stay in the race for Europe.

THE TEAMS

AC Milan can benefit from the return of Kucka and Paletta in the starting eleven after being suspended. De Sciglio and Romagnoli are still injured while Bonaventura is set to miss the rest of the season due to the same reason.

In defence, Paletta and Gomez are set to start at the centre, with Abate and Vangioni starting as fullbacks. Reports suggest it will b a last-minute battle between Zapata and Gomez for the spot next to Paletta.

Moving on to the midfield, Sosa is expected to start over Locatelli after a convincing performance against Lazio, he should be joined by Kucka and Pasalic (or Bertolacci) in the midfield.

The more noticeable change would be the return of Carlos Bacca. The Colombian was left on the bench by coach Montella against Lazio, in favour of an attack composed by Ocampos, Deulofeu and Suso. However, it seems that Bacca could be returning this Sunday in the starting eleven to face Fiorentina, with Suso and Deulofeu assisting him on the wings.

Likely AC Milan XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Abate, Gustavo Gomez, Paletta, Vangioni; Kucka, Sosa, Pasalic (Bertolacci); Suso, Bacca, Deulofeu.

Likely Fiorentina XI (3-4-2-1): Tatarusanu; Tomovic, Rodriguez, Astori, Chiesa, Vecino, Badelj, Olivera, Illicic, Kalinic, Valero.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Gerrard Deulofeu is probably one of the most dangerous players in Milan right now, he has proven that he keeps evolving and he is adapting well to Serie A, after his individual effort against Bologna, he also managed to create a few chances against Lazio, the more he plays the better he becomes, we can expect a great game from him.

On the opposite side, Kalinic could be a real danger for the Rossoneri, he is a constant threat to defenders and extremely unpredictable, with ten goals already in the league, he is definitely a player to keep an eye on.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Last time these two teams met, it ended goalless at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. However, the last time they faced each other at San Siro, Milan won by 2-0 with goals from Bacca and Kevin-Prince Boateng
