Primavera defender Stanga reveals why training with the senior squad helps his development

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan Primavera defender Luca Stanga has revealed that the squad are doing some double sessions, and that training with the senior side helps him develop.

Stanga is a versatile defender who can play right-back or centre-back, and he was the most pleasant surprise in the first preseason game of the season as the Rossoneri beat Pro Sesto 6-0. His name already appeared on the senior squad list for Fiorentina-Milan on 21 March.

In the first friendly he defended with order, pressed high, was always clean in the tackle, never made any mistakes and didn’t give any space to the forwards of the Pro Sesto. Milan want to keep him in the Primavera for one more season, but his number of call-ups for the first team could increase for him next season.

Stanga spoke during an interview with AC Milan’s Twitch channel and spoke about the training that the young Rossoneri player is facing with the First Team, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“Today a double training session, a bit tiring, but it went well. The legs have yet to recover. Training with the champions helps you a lot from a mental point of view, it always makes you stay very focused, it helps you grow,” he said.

Head coach Stefano Pioli has been praised for the fact he has been instrumental in the development of some of the young core we see in the team today, and it was his call to involve some Primavera players in the senior preseason preparations.

“My team-mates have always helped me; the coach tells me to be more courageous, to risk more, to ask for the ball and hide as little as possible. I played the last game next to Caldara. He is not someone who talks a lot, but he tells me to stay on top of the man and not to give support to the opposing players,” Stanga revealed.
