Pulisic admits he feels ‘in great shape’ at Milan and revisits Pellegrini incident

By Oliver Fisher -

Christian Pulisic believes that he is close to the best version of himself in his career so far at AC Milan as he netted the winning goal this afternoon against Empoli.

Milan recorded their third consecutive victory across all competitions at San Siro today, beating Empoli by a single goal to nil to deepen their relegation worries.

The Rossoneri took the lead with five minutes to go in the first half, but it took a VAR review for the goal to be confirmed. A lovely pass from Bennacer found Okafor down the left and he pulled it back to Pulisic who hit a first time shot that went in off Luperto.

The offside flag went up because the linesman thought Okafor had gone too early, though the goal was given after a review and it proved to be the winner thanks to a resilient defensive display combined with some wastefulness at the other end.

Pulisic spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on what was an important three points but at times a frustrating game, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

Three points, and you got the winner…

“It’s a good feeling: the three points, a somewhat lucky goal but in the end we take home the victory and we’re happy.”

Do you feel like this is the best version of Pulisic in your career?

“I feel in great shape, among the best in my career. Everyone gives me great trust: staff, coach, team-mates, fans, the city.”

What happened in last week’s incident with Pellegrini?

“I didn’t see anything behind me, I just kept playing until things got a little out of control. I had no intention of doing anything like that. Anyone who knows me well knows this. The others can say what they want, but I have nothing against Lazio.”

The Europa League against Slavia Prague beckons on Thursday…

“We have great quality up front, but we can defend much better. Only in this way can we reach the quarter-finals.”

  1. Still haven’t seen anything particularly special. Everything is fine when things are going well. Real champions continue to perform through adversity and in spite of it. Being supported feels great no doubt. If its a requirement to perform, then you are still a confidence player. Performing no matter what is what makes a player world class.

    1. You haven’t seen anything particularly special out of Milan or Pulisic?

Because 10 goals out of a RW at Milan is Particularly Special, given the last 5 years 🙂

An unlikely Scudetto, one might say, in the last 5 years was also particularly VERY special.

    2. Pulisic does a lot of things solidly. He isn’t an amazing athletic specimen or incredibly flashy with his dribbling but he reads the game well, always works for the team and is highly intelligent with his movement off the ball.

  2. It’s always funny when his comments in English are translated into Italian and then back into English for articles here
