Pulisic closes in on career-best season with one goal needed – the figures

By Isak Möller -

Christian Pulisic has been one of the protagonists for AC Milan this season and later today, he could set a new personal best. He needs just one more goal in the league to hit double figures for the first time in his career.

When Milan signed Pulisic for around €20m plus bonuses last summer, many considered it a gamble. While the latter was perhaps true, it has paid off for the Rossoneri with 12 goals and 8 assists from the American this season.

Taking a look at his numbers on Transfermarkt, his goal tally has never reached double figures domestically, managing 9 at most (Premier League with Chelsea, 2019-20). He’s currently on 9 for Milan, with just one more needed to set a new personal best.

Furthermore, it should also be noted that Pulisic already has beaten his best goalscoring season (11 goals in 2019-20) with all competitions considered, currently at 12 goals for Milan. This will arguably go down as his best season ever, with just two more assists needed to equal his personal best on that front as well.

Pulisic will play from the first minute against Lecce later today and this time in the No.10 role. It remains to be seen how he will perform in that position, but surely it will bring him closer to the goal.

  1. If you compare Pulisic to top wingers in Europe, he seems to be a bit lacking in pace and agility. What he does have in spades is a great ability in tight spaces, decent vision, solid shot and positioning within the box, and a very good hustle. To me this makes him better fit as an AM, at least theoretically, even though his numbers from the RW position do not lie. Still, I’m happy to see how he performs against Lecce, and hopefully we can see stuff that RLC just doesn’t do.
