Pulisic happy with ‘excellent performance’ against ‘strong’ Newcastle side

AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic believes the team had a ‘positive’ game against Newcastle United despite being unable to break the deadlock.

There is no doubting who were the more dominant side during the first game of the Champions League group stages, as Milan repeatedly knocked on the door but were denied by Nick Pope and some heroic blocks.

Milan had 25 shots to the six that their visitors managed, with nine of them being on target compared to just one for the Magpies which came right at the end of the game. They created four big chances to zero, with 52% possession and a 2.08 xG to 0.19.

Pulisic spoke to Sky after the game to try and reflect on what was a frustrating night for the team but a much better performance than the defeat to Inter on Saturday, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Positive match, we shot a lot on goal but we weren’t able to score,” he said.

“It’s always difficult, you also have to know how to handle bad defeats. You’ve have another game to try prove your worth, to try to get another victory. It was an excellent performance today and we must continue like this.

“I’ve already faced Newcastle, they’re a strong team and it was a good match.”

  1. It is a Win/ Draw/ Loss. None of that good performance crap. That’s the cruel fact you need to score goals. Period. Ibra understands this and should talk to the team about this. He needs to turn them into a team of ice cold killers.

  2. no games in this group is easy and all matches can be lost … for all teams.
when that is said we played well but didnt know our time yp strike when the iron was warm but overall i thought we performed fairly well but we shoud have won with a couple of goals. great improvemenbt since the last match which also was required but a win would have been reasonable-

    1. it has nothing to do with krunic ffs. he’s maybe not that good but he just did what he ordered to do by that bald headed coach

    2. its his job to pass backward to bait pressure for attacking forward. Then when middle is relifed they can stay attacking throguh mid. Dude we played so many games already. Even a small kid can see this

This work against so many teams except for inter, because they dont press higher than the middle line

  3. Play it safe = draw.
Is this what Milan big boss wants?
The same goes on… the new players will sit on the bench and get disappointed with drop in form. The old players run until drop in performance still gets called up for next match.
