Tuttosport: Pulisic and Milan have ‘desire to move forward together’ after drought ends

Christian Pulisic returned to celebrating a goal at San Siro in the win over Lecce, and the hope is that he will now take off.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) write this morning, 266 days after the last time, Pulisic finally scored in a competitive match for Milan. The American has had a difficult 2026 season so far, hampered by injuries that have prevented him from performing at his best for both Milan and the United States.

Fortunately, the worst now seems to be behind him: after his excellent performances against Lazio and Benfica, two days ago he finally scored the goal he’d been missing for far too long.

Goal and a renewal?

Pulisic is doing well physically, and the position Ruben Amorim placed him in seems perfect for showcasing his strengths. His passionate celebration after his goal against Lecce clearly demonstrates how much he was suffering from the drought.

Now that he’s back on track, the former Chelsea man wants to make the most of this break. He wasn’t called up by his national team as Mauricio Pochettino allowed him to remain at Milanello, to work hard and get back to 100% fitness.

Upon the resumption of club football, the Rossoneri are going to face a very tough run of matches (seven in 18 days) in Serie A and the Europa League. For this run, they’ll also need Pulisic at his best.

Among those most pleased with his return to scoring is undoubtedly owner Gerry Cardinale, who considers him a key player for Milan, not only from a sporting perspective, but also commercially, given that he is one of the most famous players in the USA.

In the background, there is still the issue regarding his contract, which expires in June 2027 with a one-year club option. The paper states that ‘the desire is to move forward together’, but after two unfinished negotiations in the last two years, nothing is a given.

The feeling is that Cardinale himself might be decisive in convincing his compatriot to stay. After years of delegating, he has been personally managing important club matters, so he could sit at the negotiation table together too.

  1. Didn’t score for 266 days, missed 50+ chances last season, let’s focus on him. He is as inconsistent as it gets. Should have sold him if 80M was true. Milan keeps holding on to slightly above average players and pretending they are world class.

    1. Find someone who can read and ask that person to explain. You’re obviously not ok, no need to ask. An adult that can’t even read.

    2. Sure, MaxiJesus, JesusChristImSoFngStupid, Multrak… You can change your name millions times but you’ll still be the most idiotic kid writing here. Get help. You need it.

    3. Don’t be salty because I told the truth. Milan won’t get back to the top by keeping players that should be sold when they play above their actual level. That is why a top sport director is necessary. Chukwueze comes to mind for next summer.

      1. Anyone who judges a striker playing in Allegri’s system shows how much they know about football. The team is completely different with Pulisic on the field. Milan lack creativity without him (and a few others). By your logic Napoli’s strikers are terrible and should all be sold.

        1. He missed over 50 chances last season. What does have to do with the system?

“ Anyone who judges a striker playing in Allegri’s system shows how much they know about football.”

Missing chances has nothing to do with that. 🤣🤣

          1. Multrak -aka Olumighty is a special kind of stupid.
If you can’t see how much better the team plays when he is on the pitch vs when he is not you should probably watch a different sport because you have no clue what you are looking at.

  2. Once more, there’s likely not another player in Europe that could have made the play he did against Lecce, taking the long ball over his shoulder with his right foot and his next touch a left-footed goal. I will admit though that the quality of his play and ability to dominate is all in his head.

  3. Missed 50 chances…(looks up xG and was 8.63 for Serie A scored 8). If you take all shots 24 on target 13 off target and 13 blocked you get a total of 50 shots. He scored 8. 13 blocked. So the math would be maximum 29. Sofascore has a total of 11big chances missed in Serie A over 30 appearances. Haaland had 24 non penalty goals and 30 big chances missed.

Pulisic is not a striker yet deployed as one last season in an Allegri system that routinely provided aerial service to him vs 1-2 actions. Pulisic is not an aerial threat by skill or stature.

Yes he missed chances. Yes he struggled w injury and conversion in second half. But was it just him who struggled to score?

There is a reason Allegri was sacked and if it were just Milan players not at the level look at current results w Napoli. Team that was second in the table last season.
