Mediaset: Why Pulisic’s renewal depends more on Amorim than Cardinale’s wishes

Gerry Cardinale is leading the attempts to get Christian Pulisic to renew, but it might depend more on Ruben Amorim than the owner.

As SportMediaset recall, Pulisic has played zero minutes this season, despite being named in the squad for all three games and despite  training with the group since August 21st. He has become ‘the true mystery’ of Ruben Amorim’s Milan, they add.

Present and future in the balance?

The forward has had a troubled summer, with a bone edema (and a microfracture) in the tibia-fibula junction of his right leg that ended his World Cup early. Rightly, there was maximum caution upon his return, including careful management of workloads and a gradual return.

Many presumed that he would play against Venezia or against Juventus at the weekend, but he remained in the dug out with his bib on while Alphadjo Cisse continued his brilliant start to the campaign in the left attacking midfielder position.

Amorim ‘does not appear to make Pulisic a fixed point’ of his system, at least so far. Meanwhile, owner Cardinale (also for reasons of American marketing) has said he wants to unilaterally extend Pulisic’s deal to 2028 with the club’s one-year option.

On this point Cardinale remains firm, even though he’d prefer the former Chelsea man to embrace the new direction by mutual consent, i.e. with a renewal. It’s therefore an open issue, one that will also be affected by his relationship with the new coach.

His season could finally begin as early as Saturday, in Rome against the joint-league-leaders Lazio. It seems that he will have to make do with starting on the bench again, however.

  1. I think the message is clear to Pulisic; you are at best a sub. Submit a transfer request in January and start talking about your need to leave ACM. Putting on a good face for ACM is not going to do you any good. Also, become a little for difficult in marketing. Cardinale is not interested in your career, only shirt sales.

  2. This situation has been weird from the start. Amorim has had nothing but praise for Pulisic, it would seem playing an inverted wing, with playmaking tasks would fit him perfectly…Amorim rosters him for every match, but doesn’t play him. meanwhile RLC, Saelemaekers, and Rabiot have started in his place. And in all honesty, Cisse has scored two amazing goals but has also looked bad at times. On top of that he is playing Ramos a full 90 every game and he already looks worn out.

Logic would tell you Pulisic is too injured to play. But then why roster him (3 times)

His value this summer was at least 50M Euros. if Amorim didn’t favor him…which seems illogical considering who he has played at attacking mid…but if he really doesn’t favor him, sell him. What do you think he will be worth next Summer after a year of being frozen out by a coach? 15 million? Nnkunku just left for a bag of balls.

Lastly I will love to remind Amorim that Pulisic’s goal contributions (50) over the last 3 years are the 3rd highest in Serie A. Pulisic is really not good enough for this squad

  3. The problem with Pulisic is that he has a similar mindset to Leao. He stops running and pouts when something doesn’t go well. If he gets tackled hard then he wastes time asking for a foul then walks slowly. If he loses the ball then he walks slowly while he pouts. We want players that have no emotions when they play and locked in on performing.

I like Pulisic but he reminds me of Leao’s mindset, just not as extreme as Leao.

    1. This guy Jl made the same dumb, dishonest comment in the other article. Proving he doesn’t watch the games at all. Pulisic is the opposite of Leao, always running for the team. If he watched any of the matches he would know Pulisic almost always leads the team in distance covered.

    2. hahahaha…this has gotta be sarcasm right? No one ever has said Leao and Pulisic have the same attitude…never ever

    3. Pulisic logs more field coverage than any other player when played the whole game. So im not buying that. I do agree on that about leau.

    4. What matches are you watching? Puli and Leao are absolute opposites on this.

Leao would stop running if something didn’t go his way. Pulisic never stops running, never. Even at times playing too much defense and not being far enough forward.

Pulisic had a poor spring and should have had several goals or more, but it was never for lack of effort.

    5. You ought to get your head checked immediately.
Had it not been for your comment about Moreira and Estupinan, I would have thought that you are perhaps insane or just incredibly dumb (honestly, this is still very much a possibility), for now I just consider you (to be) a nasty & bitter provocateur.

  4. So many drama queens on here. Milan are in 3 competitions. Pulisic will play plenty and start plenty.

Assume all of you are getting the same reports from the docs as Ruben is on status of CP’s leg?

  5. I think Pulisic still isn’t 100% but has been on the roster in case Amorim felt he needed a result.

We’ve gotten three results, and it would have been three wins if Juve didn’t get a last-minute header.

I think Puli comes off the bench and then will begin starting at left-side 10.

We are in 3 competitions. Pulisic will play a lot. And if we’re lucky this year, he’ll again score and assist as much as he did last September and October.

  6. Cisse has TWO GOALS!!!! the first was def nice ! the second a lucky shot that happened to luckily nutmeg the easy block and find the corner – other than that TERRIBLE! his take on, assist attempts and defense are that of a 19 year old – Amorin is going to lead us to probably 10th place unless he utilizes Rabiot and Salad and Puli and Modric. Ramos probably on 3 goals minimum by now with Puli feeding him
