QS: Ibrahimovic appreciates Amrabat – former Man Utd midfielder becomes a target

By Euan Burns -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is an admirer of former Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and the Moroccan has emerged as a target once again for AC Milan.

As reported by Quotidiano Sportivo (via Calciomercato.com), Amrabat’s name is back in fashion now that he has returned to Fiorentina. He spent last season on loan at Man Utd but they decided not to exercise the €20m option to buy him outright.

He is linked with a number of teams given Fiorentina are thought to want to cash in on him this summer. His profile certainly matches what Milan are looking for and he would arrive alongside Youssouf Fofana.

He only has one year left on his Fiorentina contract which means he would be a more affordable option than some others, and various Spanish and Serie A clubs have been gathering information on what it would take to sign him.

He is a player that Ibrahimovic appreciates, but the club has not made any concrete steps towards trying to sign him this summer yet.

There are other names in the frame to sign for Milan’s midfield, such as Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic and Real Betis’ Johnny Cordoba who could potentially become the third American player in this Milan team.

        1. Not that I care much about Fofana, but had we gone more quickly instead of trying to scrap every 2M€, we might have gotten him before their owner rages.

          1. A normal person would have simply rejected the offer instead of “raging” and raising the price, IF that is what actually happened. Why does this angry Russian get to keep his club anyway, when Abramovic had to sell Chelsea?

        2. Well that’s a fake news. Even if that’s a right news, remember at first, Monaco just wanna sell about 25 Million. We ridiculously bid 10M. If we start around 18, maybe we can get in 20M

        3. Ya but Had we paid the 20M Monaco initially wanted BEFORE other teams got involved – Fofana would have been a Milan player already – but of course we haggle and haggle and now risk missing out again. Real clubs don’t do that.

          Good times.

          1. Exactly. We haggled for like 2-3 million Euros, could have closed it around 20 million but no.

            Cardinales bootlickers can’t understand that.

  1. At least he is a dm unlike majority of “targets” we read about. Tho idk about fiora players at Milan. They have a tendency to floooooooooop

        1. There is also Galli, Massaro, Baggio (although you could say he flopped in Milan).
Anyways, not to deviate too much, I’m not too hot on Amrabat, but at least he is a pure DM and he “knows the serie A” (if that means anything).
His tenure in Manchester makes me doubtful, although giving how that club is being run, I don’t know if it’s a criteria. Many good players failed in United recently.

  2. He was a beast during the world cup for Morocco and one of the best players that season for Fiorentina. Unfortunately for him his time in EPL was a failure but it doesn’t make him a bad player. I prefer fofana but as a pure CDM to protect the back four, he is solid Gattuso like. If we can sign him and play him with Bennacer in double pivot the team would be much better balanced conceding fewer goals.

    1. he haven’t played atleast 20% of matches as midfielder at united.
the last match he played at united vs city as cdm, united win against city and Amrabat is one of best player on the ground for united to win

      1. Exactly. Utd were already trying to offload him in January but it was his first months in England at a club in mess. Towards end of the season he started showing some promise and now Utd are not even too sure whether to let their option of redeeming him expire.

      1. Fofana can score? Amrabat is a DM with very good passing accuracy and composure on the ball. If you won’t consider him a playmaker ,he can at least move the ball well and defend. I haven’t watched Fofana more than a couple of times so don’t know a lot about him and I’ve seen people hyping transfer targets in this exact way who ended up being producing nothing. I’d ask for someone I know better. So missing out on Fofana to get Amrabat would be a blessing in disguise for me ,even tho it’s bad on managements side cheaply losing an important targets after spending so much time and energy on.

        1. I think I saw written that Fofana scored 4 goals last season. So… That’s almost as many as Ambrosini during his whole career. 😀

    1. Believe me he’d suit our midfield well. He’s a good fighting spirit and the right mentality under pressure.

  3. Either we wait for to get fofana at the end of the window because Man U and athletico Madrid don’t have him as a #1 target or we go for Andre from Brazil (amrabat is the worst dm itw)

  4. Classic distractor articles. When a move takes a while to sort through, media naturally creates “interest” elsewhere…. Amrabat, American Cardozo now even…

Look at the number of striker names that we were linked with before Morata was signed.

  5. If Ambrabat finds the form he had at Verona and Fiorentina with us, then he will be a very good signing for us and could be exactly what we need in midfield..

  6. I find the majority of these comments and ‘insights’ laughable, even borderline ridiculous. You ‘experts’ on this forum continuously throw up these numbers that Milan have supposedly offered Monaco, as if you were on the phone with Monaco’s sporting director when they received the call from Furlani. You (we) literally know nothing. Save your tears for the end of the Mercato, if it does turn out to be ordinary. Until then, wait and see.
