CM: Few minutes and squad exclusions – question marks hang over young Milan trio

One of the themes that has emerged in AC Milan’s first few games is that Ruben Amorim will trust youth, but up to a point.

Calciomercato.com write that the handling of Francesco Camarda is one of the points of concern that has arisen in these first few weeks. He renewed his contract in the summer until 2031 along with Christian Comotto and loan attempts were rejected.

It was a sign of faith not only from the management and Gerry Cardinale but from the new coach Amorim. This faith, however, hasn’t translated into appearances (at least until now) as the teenager has played only five minutes against Lazio in his first five outings of the season.

Little chance for youth

Amorim said that time must be bought and the only option is to start winning matches. The feeling is that – despite a long three-year contract with a one-year option – the coach must find a way to get Milan going and can’t afford many more mistakes early in his tenure.

Milan will host Lecce at the San Siro on Sunday evening and then have a very tough schedule after the break. On October 11th they are away at Sassuolo, on October 15th away at Red Bull Salzburg, on October 18th at home to Atalanta, then away at Bournemouth after that.

The prospects for Camarda to get starts or even regular appearances aren’t large therefore, even though starter Ramos is having a hard time finding the net (just one goal in five games, against Venezia) and seems to be getting more and more tired.

It’s important to note that both Camarda and his entourage pushed hard this summer to stay at Milan despite several requests for a loan. This decision wasn’t made solely by Cardinale and Amorim: Francesco feels ready to make a difference and feels he can make his mark over a long season.

The risk of playing little or nothing at all doesn’t worry him today, so he’s unlikely to change his mind in January, despite the club working on the arrival of Endrick from Real Madrid.

Both Comotto and Sankhoun Diawara deserve a special mention, having been left out of the 24-man squad for the match against Benfica due to a lack of available spots. The Italian starlet is undoubtedly growing under the guidance of his idol, Luka Modric.

But the question remains: at 18, is it more important to have consistent playing time or to train with the best players? This is precisely the question Amorim must ask the management, without ruling out a possible loan move in January.

Diawara was a somewhat surprising signing from the scouting team. He was initially supposed to play for Milan Futuro, but that prospect wasn’t particularly appealing to the former Troyes player.

Milan have run out of slots for loan deals abroad, so they could only offer him on loan to Italy in the winter. Amorim will have to decide in the coming weeks whether he can be useful right away or not.

  1. It might help if Amorim began to start his best 11, and have them grab a lead in the first 45 minutes, so that the younger players could be substituted in after the break.

  2. Ignoring the fact cisse is young Italian and playing regularly is sus and really gives this article a lack of credibility. You as a journalist AND MILAN FAN cannot in good faith pick and choose which youth players count as youth and completely ignore others just to create some old narrative that doesn’t hold up against reality.
Why is SM so committed to reinforcing these untruths that are rooted in the very obvious culture of racism in Italy? Why at every turn are black Italians not considered when talking about who needs and deserves playing time? It’s trash and really really undermines your credibility as journalists and fans…

    1. Comotto is Young Player in Milan same goes for
      Camarda and Diawara.
Cisse is excluded not bc he’s black is bc he’s playing like 10x the minutes of these three.
You clearly misunderstood the article Diawara and Comotto they don’t have not even 1min on a official match. Camarda Amorim it seems he doesn’t trust him enough to play same goes for Bartesaghi he doesn’t trust them. It shows for Diawara Comotto Camarda and Bartesaghi maybe also Torriani and Vladimirov he doesn’t trust them enough.

  3. I think Camarda should get some minutes. Ramos doesn’t seem a huge upgrade to Gimenez or Nkunku. We gave up too early on them. It was never about the quality of the STs but team chemistry and tactics.

    1. Yep, 84m worth of trash! IF it was gimenez, media will be all awash with stories. It was emphasized pre-season that cardinale was solely responsible for signed this slow overrated striker for 84m. he is slower than tammy Abraham, hustles less than gimenez, has poor off the ball movement, terrible first touch, has not had one single shot on target in like 5 games. his last goal was placed on a placed on a platter of gold for him. I was totally shocked to see how slow he was chasing a through pass yesterday. he better have some other skill set to make up for his lace of pace.
I hope we dont rue loaning out Gimenez and spending that much on him.
i always felt he put too much pressure on himself by picking the #9 jersey. its a heavy jersey to wear indeed.

    2. Nkunku never played as ST in Milan but….
No All the coaches have them enough minutes to score at least 10 goals but they didn’t reach close .
      35m + 42m and couldn’t reach 10 goals.
Ramos we are on the fifth match of the season he needs to rest so Camarda needs to put on .

    1. RLC doesn’t even start do u watch the games?
We don’t have 2 strikers upfront you really doesn’t watch the games wow.
And in 5 games you want to sell Ramos?
      Please support other team

  4. Camarda should be getting minutes now. I do t understand leaving Chuk and Ramos on too long. More than once Ramos did not make the run and I thought – hungry Camarda would have made the run. Camarda getting minutes now would prep us better for when things get busy and he might be getting starts or if Ramos is out with injury.

  5. If Goncarlo Ramos can play matches without scoring, what is wrong in giving enough minutes to Camarda? Give him time and encouragement to shine. We have nothing to lose in giving him minutes

  6. We won’t see them play regularly in the first team. They will be sold to mid-table clubs and eventually go on to have successful careers at the smarter clubs, Juve or Inter, most likely.
