Rabiot forced to tactical foul against Parma to avoid missing Milan-Inter

Adrien Rabiot might have some regrets about turning a yellow card into a red last night, as he now must make a tactical foul before the derby against Inter.

In the dying minutes of Pisa-Milan, which the Rossoneri won by two goals to one, Rabiot was shown a red card after two bookings. The first was for a foul on the edge of the box, while the second was for some well-chosen words to the referee. In other words, totally unnecessary.

He was always going to miss Milan-Como after the yellow card (he was on 4 bookings before), but the ‘upgrade’ to a red card means his yellow card accumulation tally is still at 4. In other words, after the suspension against Como, he will still be just one yellow away from another suspension.

Tactical foul must be made

Taking a look at Milan’s schedule, it’s clear that Rabiot will have to make a tactical foul in the game against Parma. That would put him on the sidelines for the Cremonese clash. If he were to receive a booking in that one instead, however, he would miss the derby against Inter.

I highly doubt that Allegri and Rabiot will roll the dice and try to avoid a yellow card altogether, especially since the suspension (i.e. the fifth yellow card) is only a matter of time anyway. How he goes about getting the yellow card against Parma is another question…

Not having him available in the derby would be a massive blow; definitely one that could affect the outcome of the game.

  1. he already has 5 yellows so his red and that just merges there isnt double punishment, he will start next game on 6 yellows so only 4 more till next suspension.

    1. If I understood it right he will serve the suspension for the red card next game and be then back to 4 yellows again.

        1. No it’s correct, he will remain on 4 (as far as the accumulation rule is concerned) and serve a red-card suspension against Como.

          1. Ah.
So because he got a second yellow in the same game. They don’t add to your season yellow count and are instead replaced with a red?
Which has an automatic 1 week suspension.

And his yellow count stays where it was at 4.

  2. He received a red and that disqualifies him for the next game (the rescheduled game against Como)
His yellow card count will be at 4 after suspension for the red is served.

You don’t get the privilege to get sent off without consequence just because you were due to sit out the next match regardless. He will have to serve the red card punishment first and the yellow cards will count towards the red not the count thus there is no double punishment.

  3. There is no need for “Tactical”yellow vs Parma.
The league is probably decided, look what Marotta refs done to Juventus yesterday….
