AC Milan could turn to David Alaba as a potential free agent signing if Ralf Rangnick were to arrive, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports that Milan will make final decisions this week on whether to proceed with Oliver Glasner – who wants the head coach job – and whether to give Rangnick the full powers he desires.

Rangnick then Alaba?

While there has been a lot of talk about a youth movement should Rangnick join, he and Glasner would be keen on adding experience and a winning mentality to the squad, so attention is being paid to David Alaba.

The central defender was released after his time at Real Madrid and he is the captain of the Austrian national team. He shares a relationship of great respect and trust with Rangnick, and he could be ‘the Modric of 2026-27’.

Indeed, the former Bayern Munich man is considered a Rangnick loyalist. Although he’s been sidelined by the numerous injuries he’s had since 2023-24 (first a torn cruciate ligament, then muscle and meniscus problems), his personality and familiarity with top clubs make him a sure bet.

He’s almost 34 and has been offered to several teams, including Inter. He could end up in the other half of Milan, but first we must see if his national team coach makes the switch.

  1. I’ve been waiting for exactly this headline. *lol*

A few years late. I don’t think he well ever get fit again.

  2. If he remains injury free he is still a fantastic player capable of playing multiple positions. He brings winning mentality and discipline from bayern & Madrid, he would be ideal to replace modric. He has 2-3 good years left in him. Instead of previously linked to Sergio Ramos and Thiago silva, he fits the profile.

    1. IF he remains injury free. But I have my doubts. He never really recovered from his ligament tear 3 years ago.
