Sky: Director, coach, youth team and more – Rangnick asks Milan for carte blanche

AC Milan appear to be deepening discussions with Ralf Rangnick about a potential role at the club, according to a report.

After the mass sacking on Monday, Gerry Cardinale , Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Massimo Calvelli are moving to find a new coach, a new CEO, a new sporting director and a new technical director as soon as possible. For the latter role, the hottest name right now is Ralf Rangnick, the current Austria coach.

Conditions outlined

As Sky (via MilanNews) report, a four-way call took place this week between Rangnick, Cardinale, Ibrahimovic and Calvelli. The call went well, and the former RB Leipzig and Manchester United player expressed his openness to a move to Milan, but he set very specific conditions.

Rangnick wants to choose everything except the president and CEO. He therefore wants to decide the coach, the sporting director, the head of scouting and his staff, the head of the youth academy and even the co-ordinators and coaches of the youth teams.

The German therefore wants carte blanche and maximum freedom to bring his philosophy to Milan. A new telephone conversation between the two sides is expected at the beginning of next week, with Cardinale and co. now reflecting.

If Milan wants to take a chance on him, they’ll have to hurry because Ragnick will leave for the United States soon, where he’ll be at the World Cup with Austria.

It remains to be seen whether Ibrahimovic will be willing to step back after having regained power in recent days, given that Rangnick would ultimately be making all the decisions and not the Swede.

  1. Rangnick model demands absolute, dictatorial authority in sporting decisions. This could directly clash with the role of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whom Cardinale currently considers the de facto head of sporting management. Having two heads with such strong decision making power could create an environment of internal conflict.
Rangnick needs a long time (a project spanning two to three years) to reap the rewards. Disappointed Milan fans, after missing out on Champions League qualification, will not have the patience to see long term experimentation and development they demand immediate results.
The rigid German ideas and structures have historically struggled to adapt quickly to the bureaucracy, tactical specificities, and media pressures of Serie A.
Rangnick is the ideal choice if you want to dismantle the old structure and build a modern institution based on numbers, youth, and fast-paced football. But, logically speaking, the success of this option hinges on one thing and one thing only: that everyone else (including Ibrahimovic and Cardinale) step aside and give him complete control of the club.
(This is a lie, they lie to us)

    1. The main issue is you can’t make rangrick to choose the sporting director and the coach as he will sure not putting stars while the fans are boiling and no one can exam another failure.

      1. Okay, I see. Why do I sound like an AI? Actually, I don’t use AI the way you might think. What I do is write a lot, four to six times before publishing, and I constantly edit before posting my comment. In fact, I’m a financial analyst and advisor.

        1. Your delivery is void of any emotion, strictly analytical and too rational and well structured for a “human” input. So your takes not being AI (or you not being a bot) is a hard sell. Just a matter of time before you can adapt and actually sell it though.

          1. You do realize you can tell either of those.to assume a personality?

So to say something “sounds like AI” is simply naive.

^^ written for me by AI (GPT)

Prompt – (copied this thread with all responses)

This user Max is constantly insulting and belittling. Give me a two sentence response that is mildly condescending and explains that AI has any tone it is asked to produce.

As you can see using AI can be more work than writing it yourself.

            This is now all me:

What else would you like me to explain about AI in small words for you?

            And this is a freebie:

Prompt: explain how capitalism works. Assume I am 12 yrs old. Then 18 yrs old. I am a post doc in economics.

Compare the nature of the explanation the style and the tone.

            Happy learning

        2. In the way I may think? Yea nah bro. Definitely ai then lol. You’re way too formal for us humans. There’s no way

      2. Honestly, I thought I’m the only who has noticed this, all his comments seems just lifted from an AI tool.

        Thanks for calling it out.

    2. I noticed the same. They are not the cheap kind of AI slop. But there is a sense of augmentation in the rhythm and how repetitive it is. And not all of it is AI as some of the things are clearly written from personal perspective and jargon. Looks like advanced AI assistance.

    1. 6 years ago the idea was to have him as a coach, right now it’s to have him as some sort of a technical director.
I don’t dislike the idea but with Ibrahimović I don’t think this is going to work.

      1. You sure about that?

Gazidis informed Maldini that Ralf Rangnick is set to arrive at Milan as coach, technical director, responsible for the medical sector and more. Maldini’s contract runs until 2022 and has been offered the possibility to become a club ambassador gianlucadimarzio.com/ it/milan-rangn..

        Sounds familiar?
        Gazidis was cleaning house

          1. Anyways, I don’t fancy him as a coach (his tenure in Man Utd didn’t exactly look impressive), but I don’t dislike the idea of him as a technical director with a carte blanche.
But I don’t see that happening.

  2. Rangnick: Your club is a dumpster fire without a competent management and a winning core. Give me the controls and stay out of my way so I can build something reputable here and try to restore the club’s image.

    Gerry: Naaaaahhh.. next.

  3. Ibrahimovic: “Who is Rangnick? I don’t even know who he is”
on the rumors he was going to take over as SD when Ibra was back playing for us in his second stint and Maldini were there as director.

  4. This is an odd one. Who knows where we’d be if we’d gone for Rangnick’s high-pressing, all-action, youth-based style back in 2020.. We probably wouldn’t have won the scudetto/ reached CL semi without Piloi, Ibra, Kjaer- but on the other hand over the long term we might be in a better position right now…

    1. If Gerry sabotaged Maldini after his “individualism” in a sea of incompetence, how long do you think before Ralph got crippled, limited, and rendered utterly useless?

    2. I don’t know.
As a coach he doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal, heck with Manchester United he didn’t last long.
But with his philosophy, vision,… he might be a terrific director.

    3. Even when it was clear that we needed someone like Rangnick at that time, Maldini was the one decided to cancel any agreement in place because Pioli managed to get us into the UCL, that decision would come back to haunt him as we were so humiliated on the pitch the following season.

Maldini missed that opportunity which we could he been benefiting now.

      1. What a BS!!!, Maldini Cancelled Rangnick on his own?? Every decision had to approved by Gazidis…

Please chance your name to R apist, suits you better.

  6. “It remains to be seen whether Ibrahimovic will be willing to step back after having regained power in recent days, given that Rangnick would ultimately be making all the decisions and not the Swede”

    Really? Oli?

You’re bigger than this. Maintain the high standard you’ve built for yourself in how you curate your articles and not write emotionally like the other amateurs.

That last paragraph was absolutely inconsequential.

  7. why is everyone so sure, that Ibrahimovic would be in the way? i see Cardinale as a business machine, who would turn down his buddy immediately if he sees success oportunity with Rangnick. and by success i dont mean only sporting success, which is not guaranteed – but look how much money RB Salzburg made from transfers. its a business. and Italy is very poor in this business, so if Rangnick could implement his concept, AC Milan would have a big advantage over their rivals.

then, i also dont agree completely that fans would ask for immediate sporting success. yes, fans are unhappy that we missed CL spot again, but the anger also comes from the fact, that Milan messed up pretty much everything in the last two years. so if Rangnick woud miss CL again, but Futuro earns promotion, or young talent like Camarda, Comotto, Sala etc blossoms AND an overall handwriting and idea is clearly visible. i think then the majority of the fans would give him at least another year.
