However, updates recently have not been positive, with the Austrian FA even seemingly overly positive in recent days about their chances of retaining the manager.
Rangnick rejects Milan
It had been reported that the Rossoneri would have until Monday to make a decision. However, Gazzetta dello Sport now reports that he has ‘grown tired of waiting’ and rejected the offer from the club.
The Diavolo, as the report states, have disappeared from talks, leaving him frustrated and he has now decided that enough is enough, opting to continue with Austria instead.
Daniele Longo also reported that things were heading towards a black smoke, another way of saying it’s not happening, minutes later. So, Milan have missed out on the first major part of their rebuild due to themselves.
Oliver Glasner can still arrive, but whether other targets will be concerned by this situation is certainly a worry.

I am not so sure giving the full responsibility for basically everything to a person that you have no previous experience working with is such a good idea. Then the success of AC Milan is in the hands of Rangnick. Let’s say he leaves after a year then probably everyone he recruited will leave as well. I don’t doubt his capabilities but too much risk if you ask me.

Good on Rangnick, he has a reputation to maintain. Any self-respecting coach out there wouldn’t even touch this club with a 10-foot pole right now.
I am actually pleased with this development. Rangnick like Allegre is too old school. His protégé Glazner defaults to a formation that does not use wingers and we are a team built around wingers. Also, neither one has experience coaching in Italy and from my understanding, Glazner’s system is more of a sit back, press and counter attack type of system. Even if it is more dynamic than Allegra’s it’s still not an ideal system for a league dominated by defensive counter attack systems where most teams seem to play with A 3-5-2 type of defensive formation. Maybe I’m in the minority, but I would rather have an entertaining team to watch that’s competitive and can get lucky and win championships every now and again than a team that boars me to death but somehow manages to survive games and win 1-0.

“We are a team built around wingers”, really? We have two wingers, Leao and Pulisic, and the former has been fading for years and now wants to leave. Sell Leao and we’ve got ONE winger left. This is hardly a “team built around wingers”. At this point we can more easily use 3-4-2-1, than 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, as we’d need at least three new wingers, while we’d only need two more CAM’s for 3-4-2-1, and if you’re willing to give Cisse a chance, then we’d only need one more, as we already have Nkunku and Pulisic who can play behind the striker.

Rangnick had enough self respect to say, “no” given Cardinale could get his dog Ibra to line up and row in the same direction.
Worse, it shows that the name AC Milan” carries far less weight than we hoped.

You know, I think this is a good development. They will hire Amorim and some other yes-men that Ibra accepts and we can finally relegate so this Cardinale clown can sell and leave us the hell alone. Better start clean from Serie B, new ownership, new employees, new players new everything. This team is in a dire need of a reset.
