Repubblica: Rashford ‘open’ to ‘drastic’ wage cut with Milan pressing – the latest

The chances of Marcus Rashford signing for AC Milan this January may have increased this afternoon with the Manchester United star ‘open’ to a lower wage.

In this era of football, money seems to be the be-all and end-all of everything. From transfers to contracts to sponsorships. Milan are, as expected, no stranger to this, and there have been several suggestions that the club have prioritised profit over results.

These suggestions have often been supported by the mercato movements of the Rossoneri, with €20 million limits being common. Therefore, links to big earner Rashford, are watered down by fears about the Diavolo’s financial preferences.

However, it seems that the English winger is open to new opportunities, so he could take a financial hit to re-find his best.

According to this morning’s edition of La Repubblica (via Milan News), the star is ‘open’ to a wage cut which is described as ‘drastic’ by the paper. Earlier reports have suggested that a €3m offer could be tabled, which is significantly lower than what he would get in Manchester for the rest of the season.

However, his openness to a wage drop can only be seen as a good thing for many reasons. Primarily, it could suggest that the project offered by Milan has caught his interest enough to lower his wage. Alternatively, it could just say that he is more concerned about returning to his best than he is about a wage.

Either way, it is positive, and the wheels on a move could pick up the pace if the figures are aligned.

  1. Whether this happens or not, the interest seems genuine, which makes me think about formation.

Honestly I thought we were heading towards a fluid 433/442, but given the players we have, and the players we don’t have, Rashford as a marquee signing (which he would have to be viewed as) surely doesn’t fit that bill.

Will we be persisting with 4231 once Conceicao has the players he wants? does he even want Rashford or this this all the three stooges again?

    1. I do not think Conceicao specifically asked for Rashford. Coaches always have a list of favourites when coming to a new club. I just cannot see how Rashford had been on the list before Conceicao arrived.

          1. What were the other Ibra’s best buddy moves???
This is no different then when they were looking for a coach and all the fake reports just named every former player that Ibra played with and every coach that he played for. None of which were true.

        1. 18/19 13goals 8assists, 19/20 22goals 11assists, 20/21 21goals 13assists 22/23 30goals 8assists. Playing in multiple positions in 4231 and 442. Sempremilan Crew : “We don’t want him”. 🤦 He is way more clinical than any of our current strikers. If we can have the opportunity to get him – with our limited spending – we should ALWAYS do this !!! Exactly the kind of signing Galliani would have been going for. Hope he signs as he will proove all of you wrong

  2. If he was good enough for ManU he would have stayed there and earned that money.

The fact that he’s in the position he’s in means he needs to take a pay cut to get his career back on track …

  3. going from a €13M annual wage to a €3M one would show that he is really more interested in the project than his wallet.

Would bring my respect for him up that much at the very least..
