Player Ratings: AC Milan 2-0 Juventus – Several players shine; one flop

AC Milan got the confidence boost they were after as they managed to beat Juventus by two goals to nil this evening. Several players did really well and down below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

Starting XI

Tatarusanu (6): He only had to make one or two proper saves and they weren’t hard ones either. He sometimes takes a little bit too much time on the ball and prefers to send them long, but obviously he’s not as good as Maignan on that.

Kalulu (7): Such an improvement compared to the right-back Milan had against Chelsea. He won the ball high up many times and did really well to balance Theo’s role, with the Rossoneri almost playing with a back three at times.

Gabbia (6.5): He didn’t make any mistakes against what was a rather poor Juve attack and he won quite a lot of duels. A positive display indeed ahead of what could be a start against Chelsea.

Tomori (7): Again, the Juve attackers weren’t in the best of forms but he stayed close to his man all the time and made several interceptions. The goal was the icing on the cake for him today.

Hernandez (7): Milan are a completely different side with him on the pitch and not just because he’s a great left-back, but also because he offers tactical solutions. Today, for example, he had a very central role at the start which also suited his qualities.

Bennacer (7): If the display against Chelsea was somewhat poor for his standards, this was certainly a very good one. Calm on the ball and always composed even in tight situations, which was great for Milan.

Tonali (6.5): Passion and hard work from the midfielder today who didn’t always shine technically, but was an important presence nevertheless. It was one of those games in which he could get stuck in and make the most of his physical strength.

Diaz (7): He started the game very well and had a few nice turns to upset the Juventus defenders. The goal was just fantastic stuff from the Spaniard who really did well in that right-wing role.

Pobega (6): A solid display from the midfielder who won quite a lot of balls and used his strength to hold off the opponents. Nothing more, but he deserves praise for doing the basics so well.

Leao (7): Another very good day for the Portugueses winger who, towards the end, toyed with the Juventus defenders (almost too much). No goal or assist, but he hit the post twice and was important as always.

Giroud (5.5): He got the assist for Tomori’s goal (but it was a bit lucky) but he failed to impose himself as a focal point of the attack. When he did win duels, he often misplaced the following pass and we all know he can do better.

Substitutes

Krunic (6): Just what we needed from him at that point of the game. Strength and presence to upset Juve’s attempts (albeit weak ones) to get back into the game.

Rebic (6): He pressed hard and made life difficult for the opponents.

De Ketelaere (6): He had a bright start with a few very nice actions but faded a little (due to the progress of the game, rather than his abilities). An encouraging display on the right, though.

Vranckx (N/A): He didn’t play enough to get a rating.

Origi (N/A): He didn’t play enough to get a rating.
